DataRobot is an AI platform where teams build, deploy and monitor models and agents, so a DataRobot login often reaches company data. Two-factor authentication (2FA) is optional there, and it uses standard time-based codes from an authenticator app (DataRobot). There's a catch before you start: the setting only appears for accounts that sign in with a username and password. This guide uses Authenticator App - Novaz on iPhone. Any authenticator app works the same way.

How we checked this guide: the DataRobot steps come from DataRobot's own product documentation, linked below, which we read on October 21, 2026. We haven't tested them on a DataRobot account, so a label may differ slightly. The Novaz steps are checked against the app, version 1.0.5.

Who can turn it on

DataRobot's troubleshooting table is direct about it: "2FA is only available for the username/password authentication method" (DataRobot). If you sign in through your company's single sign-on, you won't see the switch, and DataRobot sends you to your administrator. Its settings page repeats that you need the username/password account type (DataRobot).

Once 2FA is on, it also covers the API: every API endpoint that checks a username and password then asks for the second factor too (DataRobot). Scripts that sign in that way will need updating.

Turn on 2FA with an authenticator app

These are the steps for DataRobot's cloud (SaaS) service (DataRobot, DataRobot):

  1. Click your profile avatar in the upper-right corner of DataRobot, then User settings.
  2. Open the Authentication tab and switch the Two-Factor Authentication toggle on.
  3. Click Setup. DataRobot takes you back to the login screen, which now shows a QR code.
  4. In Novaz, tap +, then Scan QR code, and point the camera at the code. If DataRobot is open on the same iPhone, take a screenshot and use Choose a photo instead. See scanning a QR code on the same iPhone.
  5. Novaz shows a 6-digit code. Type it into the box at the bottom of the DataRobot screen, without spaces, and click the arrow.
  6. DataRobot shows your recovery code. Save it with one of the options offered, then click the arrow. A short notice confirms that 2FA is on.

On a self-managed (on-premises) installation, the QR code appears in a dialog rather than on the login screen, and the last button is Complete.

DataRobot's documentation doesn't show a text key you could type in place of scanning. Its section for when you can't scan describes a recovery code option on the login screen instead, which doesn't add DataRobot to your app. So plan on scanning the QR code, using a screenshot if you need to.

Save your recovery codes

DataRobot's page talks about both a single recovery code and a series of them, so you may see one or several. Either way, download, copy or print them before you finish setup, as DataRobot warns (DataRobot). Without iCloud backup or a backup file, Novaz keeps its keys only on your iPhone, so these codes are your way back in if the phone is lost. Store them in a password manager or on paper, away from the phone. More in 2FA backup codes.

When DataRobot asks for a code

You enter a code every time you log in, whether with your email and password or with Google. DataRobot also asks for one when you request a password reset from the login page: click Don't Remember?, then Reset Password, and enter the code before it emails you a reset link. On the code screen, Switch to recovery code lets you use a saved code instead (DataRobot).

If DataRobot says your code is invalid

DataRobot's own explanation is duplicate entries. Each time you scan its QR code, your app adds a new account, and only the newest one matches. Its advice is to delete the extra DataRobot entries in your app, or to use the last one added (DataRobot). In Novaz, open the older DataRobot entry and tap Remove account, but only once you're sure which entry is current.

If that's not it, check the iPhone's clock: Settings > General > Date & Time > Set Automatically. Novaz warns you when the clock is 15 seconds or more off. Other causes are in Authenticator code not working?

Changing phones

DataRobot doesn't describe moving 2FA to a new phone. The documented route is to turn it off (below) while you still have the old phone, then switch the toggle on again and scan a new QR code. If you use iCloud backup or a backup file in Novaz, you can restore your accounts on the new iPhone instead; without one, you'll set DataRobot up again there. See How to transfer your authenticator app to a new iPhone.

If you lose your authenticator

Sign in with a recovery code through Switch to recovery code. If you've lost both the phone and the codes, DataRobot says to contact your administrator or DataRobot Support (DataRobot). It doesn't say what proof Support asks for or how long a reset takes. More in Lost the phone with your authenticator app?

Turning 2FA off

Switch the toggle off in your settings, enter a 6-digit code or a saved recovery code, and click Disable. You can turn it back on at any time (DataRobot).
