Airtable supports two-factor authentication on all plans, with an authenticator app (Airtable). It no longer offers SMS codes to new customers. This guide uses Authenticator App - Novaz on iPhone. Any authenticator app works the same way.

How we checked this guide: the Airtable steps come from Airtable's own help page, linked below, which we read on October 11, 2026. We haven't tested them on an Airtable account, so a label may differ slightly. The Novaz steps are checked against the app, version 1.0.5.

Before you start: signed in with Google?

Airtable says two-factor authentication "can only be set up" if your account has a password you chose. If you sign in with Google, add a password to your Airtable account first. Airtable's help doesn't cover Sign in with Apple.

Turn on 2FA

Airtable's help describes these steps (Airtable):

  1. Open your account overview and choose Set up two-factor authentication, below your name and email.
  2. Sign in again when Airtable asks, then choose Enable.
  3. Airtable shows a QR code. In Novaz, tap +, then Scan QR code. If the QR code is on the same iPhone, take a screenshot and use Choose a photo. See scanning a QR code on the same iPhone.
  4. Type the code from Novaz into Airtable.
  5. Save your backup codes. Under Backup options, choose Show single-use backup codes. Airtable shows "a list of 12-character backup codes". You can regenerate them later from the same place. See 2FA backup codes.

If setup keeps starting over

Airtable lists these causes (Airtable):

  • The code expired before you submitted it. Use a fresh one.
  • Your phone's clock is off. On iPhone, open Settings > General > Date & Time and turn on Set Automatically.
  • The QR page timed out. Reload it and scan again.
  • "Failed to load QR code" usually means more than 3 attempts in 24 hours. Wait, then try again.

Signing in afterwards

Airtable asks for a code when you sign in, then "trusts your browser session for a period". It asks again when the session ends, or when you sign in on a new browser or device. If you can't get a code, choose Problems getting an authentication code?, then Use a backup code.

Changing phones or apps

Airtable's way is to disable two-factor authentication and enable it again, which gives a new QR code for the new phone. Do it while you can still sign in. If you have a Novaz iCloud backup or backup file, you can restore your accounts on the new iPhone instead and skip this. See How to transfer your authenticator app to a new iPhone.

If you lose your authenticator

Use a backup code. Without one, contact Airtable support from the question mark icon on your home screen. Airtable verifies your identity first. If your company signs you in through SSO, ask your identity-provider admin instead. More in Lost the phone with your authenticator app?
