Audiofanzine 2FA: how to set up an authenticator app

Novaz steps checked against version 1.0.5

Audiofanzine is a music and audio community with gear reviews, forums and classified ads. If you buy or sell gear there, your account is worth protecting: Audiofanzine says it has seen more account takeovers, often used to run scams through the classifieds (Audiofanzine). Its answer is an optional feature it calls two-step validation.
There's only one way to use it. Audiofanzine has chosen not to offer codes by text message or email, so the code always comes from an authenticator app (Audiofanzine). This guide uses Authenticator App - Novaz on iPhone. Any app that makes time-based (TOTP) codes works the same way.
How we checked this guide: the Audiofanzine steps come from Audiofanzine's own two-step validation FAQ, in its English and French versions, linked below, which we read on October 21, 2026. We haven't tested them on an Audiofanzine account, so a label may differ slightly. The Novaz steps are checked against the app, version 1.0.5.
Turn on two-step validation
Audiofanzine's FAQ describes these steps (Audiofanzine):
- Sign in to Audiofanzine on the web.
- Click your avatar at the top right of any page and choose My account.
- On your account page, click Edit my profile at the top right.
- In the Security section, click Activate two-step validation.
- Enter your Audiofanzine password.
- Audiofanzine shows a QR code. In Novaz, tap +, then Scan QR code, and point the camera at it. If you're on the iPhone that has Novaz, take a screenshot and use Choose a photo instead. See scanning a QR code on the same iPhone.
- Type the code Novaz shows into Audiofanzine and confirm. Two-step validation is now on.
The FAQ also mentions an "alternative code" you can type into your app if you can't scan. It doesn't say what that key looks like or how long it is. In Novaz, a typed key goes in with +, then Enter key manually, as the Setup key (What is a 2FA setup key?). Scanning is the safer choice, because the QR code carries the code settings and a typed key always gets 6 digits every 30 seconds.
On the French site the labels are Mon compte, Modifier mon profil, Sécurité and Activer la validation en deux étapes (Audiofanzine).
No backup codes
Audiofanzine's FAQ doesn't mention backup or recovery codes, and it offers no second method. The only way back in without your authenticator is Audiofanzine's support team (see below). Novaz's keys exist only on your iPhone unless you turn on iCloud backup or export a backup file, so think about that before you rely on it alone.
The FAQ does allow one safety net: you can scan the same QR code with more than one device during setup. Audiofanzine discourages this unless you really need it, since it adds risk (Audiofanzine). If you do it, scan the code with Novaz and with your second device before you finish the setup.
Signing in with Facebook or Google
The one-time code applies when you sign in with your Audiofanzine password. If you sign in through Facebook or Google, Audiofanzine doesn't ask for its own code, and it recommends turning on two-step verification with those providers instead (Audiofanzine).
Where the code is
Audiofanzine never sends the code to you. You open the app you used during setup. The FAQ guesses that iPhone users will find the code in Apple's Passwords app (Audiofanzine). That's only true if you set it up there. If you scanned the QR code with Novaz, the code is in Novaz. See Apple Passwords vs an authenticator app.
If Audiofanzine rejects your code
The FAQ gives two reasons. The phone's clock may be out of sync, and since the codes depend on the time, a few seconds can be enough. Or the code changed while you were typing it, so wait for the next one (Audiofanzine).
On iPhone, go to Settings > General > Date & Time and turn on Set Automatically. Novaz warns you when the clock is 15 seconds or more off. More causes are in Authenticator code not working?
Changing phones
Audiofanzine asks you to sort this out before you switch: either turn off two-step validation or move your accounts to the new phone in your app (Audiofanzine). With Novaz, moving your accounts means restoring them on the new iPhone from iCloud backup or a backup file. Without one, turn it off on the old phone, then turn it on again and scan a new QR code with the new one. See How to transfer your authenticator app to a new iPhone.
If you lose your authenticator
If you've lost the phone or deleted the app, Audiofanzine asks you to contact it through its hotline, a contact form on the site (Audiofanzine). The team resets two-step validation on your account, and you set it up again yourself with a new app (Audiofanzine). The same applies if you already changed phones without moving your codes. The FAQ doesn't say what proof of ownership it asks for or how long a reset takes. More in Lost the phone with your authenticator app?
Turning it off
Go back to the Security section of your profile and turn two-step validation off. Audiofanzine asks for a current one-time code to confirm (Audiofanzine). Only then remove the account from Novaz: open it and tap Remove account.
