Your Gaijin account is the one behind War Thunder, Gaijin's other games, the Gaijin.net store and the Gaijin Market. Its two-step authentication comes in three kinds: Gaijin's own Gaijin Pass app, an authenticator app such as Google Authenticator, or codes by email (Gaijin). Gaijin requires two-step authentication to place orders on the Gaijin Market (Gaijin), to send or receive store gifts (Gaijin) and to spend a store balance (Gaijin).

You may have email codes already. If your account has purchases and a confirmed email, Gaijin turns them on by itself when you sign in from a new device without 2FA (Gaijin). This guide uses Authenticator App - Novaz on iPhone, but any authenticator app works the same way.

How we checked this guide: the Gaijin steps come from Gaijin's own support site, including its screenshots, which we read on October 19, 2026. Some details appear only in the Russian version of Gaijin's main article, and we say so where we use them. We haven't tested the steps on a Gaijin account, so a label may differ slightly. The Novaz steps are checked against the app, version 1.0.5.

Gaijin won't turn on an authenticator app until a phone number is linked to your account (Gaijin). On the Account protection page, choose Enable on the phone item and type your number. Gaijin emails you a code, then texts you a second one.

Accounts created through Steam also need an email address linked first, from inside one of Gaijin's games (Gaijin).

Turn on 2FA with an authenticator app

  1. Sign in at store.gaijin.net, open your profile, and choose Settings > Account protection (Gaijin).
  2. Next to Two-step authentication, choose Enable.
  3. Gaijin offers Gaijin Pass first. Skip Start download and open Other ways and platforms at the bottom (Gaijin), then choose Google Authenticator, as the Russian version of the article shows (Gaijin). Gaijin's setup page names it only as an example.
  4. Gaijin shows a QR code. In Novaz, tap +, then Scan QR code. If the QR code is on the same iPhone, take a screenshot and use Choose a photo. See scanning a QR code on the same iPhone.
  5. If you can't scan it, choose Can't scan the barcode? for a code to type instead. In Novaz, tap +, then Enter key manually, and type it as the Setup key. See What is a 2FA setup key?
  6. Choose Continue, type the 6-digit code from Novaz, and choose Activate.

Steps 4 to 6 use labels from the English article's older screenshots. The Russian version's newer ones show a redesigned screen, so the wording may differ.

Gaijin doesn't say how often its codes change. Scanning the QR code is the safer choice, because it carries the code settings. A key typed by hand gets the usual 30 seconds.

Create reserve codes

Only the Russian version of the article covers backup codes. Once 2FA is on, go to Account protection, choose Settings next to two-step authentication, and create reserve codes, confirming with a code from your app. Gaijin then lists them (ten in its screenshot), and each works once (Gaijin).

Without a Novaz iCloud backup or backup file, its keys exist only on your iPhone, so these codes are your way back in if the phone is gone. Store them in a password manager or on paper. See 2FA backup codes.

Signing in

Gaijin's sign-in shows Enter the verification code from the app, with a Code from app field, a Remember me on this device box and Confirm (Gaijin). Its help doesn't say how long a device stays remembered.

If Gaijin rejects your code

Gaijin's advice is to set the exact time on your phone (Gaijin). On iPhone, open Settings > General > Date & Time and turn on Set Automatically. Novaz also warns you when your clock is 15 seconds or more off. More in Authenticator code not working?

If you lose your authenticator

On the sign-in code screen, choose Unable to confirm log in?. Then either enter a reserve code, or enter the full phone number on your account, choose Continue, and type the code Gaijin texts you (Gaijin).

Either way, Gaijin then connects Gaijin Pass, not your authenticator app: a QR code downloads Gaijin Pass already linked, or you type an 8-digit code into it. Turning Gaijin Pass off also turns two-step authentication off (Gaijin), after which you can set up Novaz again.

Without reserve codes or your phone, contact Gaijin's Customer Support with the invoices for your last three purchases, if any, and your PC's system information (Gaijin). If you can't sign in, the request form offers only the Problems with Registration or Account Recovery category (Gaijin). Gaijin doesn't say how long recovery takes. See Lost the phone with your authenticator app?

Turning 2FA off or changing phones

On Account protection, choose Settings next to two-step authentication, then Disable, and enter a code. Email codes have their own Disable button (Gaijin).

Gaijin doesn't describe moving an authenticator app, so for a new phone, turn 2FA off with a code from the old one, then set it up again. If you back up Novaz with iCloud backup or a backup file, you can restore your accounts on the new iPhone instead. See How to transfer your authenticator app to a new iPhone.
