Inbox.lv 2FA: how to set up an authenticator app

Novaz steps checked against version 1.0.5

Inbox.lv is a Latvian email service that also runs Files, Foto and Calendar under the same name. Its two-step verification is optional and works one way only: a code from an authenticator app on your phone, typed after your password (Inbox.lv). The help center doesn't mention SMS codes or backup codes. The part to understand before you start is recovery: resetting your password switches two-step verification off, so your recovery phone, recovery mailbox and secret question are what really guard the account. This guide uses Authenticator App - Novaz on iPhone, but any authenticator app works the same way.
How we checked this guide: the Inbox.lv steps come from Inbox.lv's own help center, linked below, which we read on October 21, 2026. We haven't tested them on an Inbox.lv account, so a label may differ slightly. The Novaz steps are checked against the app, version 1.0.5.
Before you start: check your recovery options
If you lose the phone with your codes, Inbox.lv's documented way back in is a password reset, and that reset turns two-step verification off (Inbox.lv). That saves you if your phone is gone, but it also lets anyone who can reset your password skip the second step. So before you add the app, make sure the recovery methods on your account are ones only you control:
- Recovery phone: in your profile, select Recovery Options, then Add in the Phone to restore access section, and confirm the number by SMS (Inbox.lv).
- Recovery mailbox: in Profile Overview, under Account security info, select Edit, enter another address in E-mail, then confirm it from that mailbox (Inbox.lv).
- Secret question: under Account Security, in the Security question section, select Edit (Inbox.lv). Pick an answer nobody could look up.
Turn on 2FA with an authenticator app
Inbox.lv's help describes these steps (Inbox.lv):
- Sign in to Inbox.lv in a web browser. The help says to do this in the web interface.
- Open your user profile. One way is to click your email address in the top right corner. Inbox.lv asks for your password again before it shows your profile (Inbox.lv).
- Open Two-step authentication and select Enable. The page is also at login.inbox.lv/profile/two_steps.
- Inbox.lv shows a QR code. In Novaz, tap +, then Scan QR code, and point the camera at it. If you're using Inbox.lv on the same iPhone, take a screenshot, then tap + and Choose a photo. See scanning a QR code on the same iPhone.
- Type the current code from Novaz into the PIN code field.
- Select Verify and save.
The help only mentions scanning the QR code. It doesn't describe a text key you could type in instead, and it doesn't say how many digits the codes have or how often they change. Scanning is the reliable route either way, because the QR code passes those settings to Novaz.
If the code runs out before you finish, the help's advice is to refresh the page, scan the new QR code and try again. Then remove the stale first entry from Novaz: open it and tap Remove account.
When Inbox.lv asks for a code
Once it's on, Inbox.lv asks for a code from your phone every time you sign in, after your password (Inbox.lv). The help doesn't mention a way to trust a device and skip the code. It also doesn't say whether two-step verification changes anything for mail apps that connect over POP3 or IMAP.
If Inbox.lv rejects your code
Inbox.lv's one tip is about time: check the clock on your phone or let it set the time automatically (Inbox.lv). On iPhone, go to Settings > General > Date & Time and turn on Set Automatically. Novaz also warns you when the clock is 15 seconds or more off. Other causes are in Authenticator code not working?
Changing phones
Inbox.lv doesn't describe a transfer. Its help warns you to turn two-step verification off in your profile before you delete the authenticator app, or you won't be able to get into your email. So, with the old phone still in hand: turn it off, then turn it on again and scan the new QR code with the new phone. If you have a Novaz iCloud backup or backup file, you can restore your accounts on the new iPhone instead; without one, this is the way to do it. See How to transfer your authenticator app to a new iPhone.
If you lose your authenticator
There are no backup codes to fall back on. Instead, reset your password at login.inbox.lv/pass/forgot. When the reset is done, two-step verification is switched off on your account and you can sign in with the new password (Inbox.lv).
After you're in, set up two-step verification again with your new phone. If none of your recovery methods work, the help center's Support link at the bottom of each page is the way to reach Inbox.lv; the 2FA page doesn't say what proof they'd ask for or how long it takes. Turning 2FA off
In your user profile, open Two-step authentication, select Disable, and confirm (Inbox.lv). Then remove the Inbox.lv entry from Novaz.
