Lokalise 2FA: how to set up an authenticator app

Novaz steps checked against version 1.0.5

Lokalise is the translation management platform that software teams use to keep their app and website strings, translators and translation memory in one place. Its two-factor authentication (2FA) is a personal setting on your own login, and Lokalise's help describes a single method: a 6-digit code from an authenticator app, asked for after your email and password (Lokalise). It costs nothing extra. The help names Google Authenticator and Microsoft Authenticator as examples, but any similar app works. This guide uses Authenticator App - Novaz on iPhone, and other authenticator apps follow the same steps.
How we checked this guide: the Lokalise steps come from Lokalise's own help center, including the screenshots in its articles, which we read on October 20, 2026. We haven't tested them on a Lokalise account, so a label may differ slightly. The Novaz steps are checked against the app, version 1.0.5.
Your team may require it
On the Advanced plan and above, a team can make 2FA mandatory with the Enforce two-factor authentication option, found on the Advanced security tab of Team settings. When it's on, members can't get into the team's projects until they've set up an authenticator app (Lokalise). If you've joined a team like that, the steps below are what it's waiting for.
Turn on 2FA with an authenticator app
Lokalise's help article walks through this flow (Lokalise):
- Select your avatar in the bottom-left corner of Lokalise and choose Profile settings. Lokalise's newer profile article calls the same menu item Personal profile, so the label may differ (Lokalise).
- Open the Two-factor authentication tab.
- Select Set up now.
- Lokalise shows a QR code. In Novaz, tap +, then Scan QR code, and point the camera at it. If the QR code is on the same iPhone, take a screenshot, tap +, then Choose a photo. See scanning a QR code on the same iPhone.
- Type the 6-digit code from Novaz in the field under Enter the authorization code:.
- Select Enable two-factor authentication.
The setup screen tells you to download Google Authenticator first. You can ignore that step if you already use Novaz or another authenticator app.
Lokalise's help doesn't mention a text key, and the setup screen in its screenshot shows only the QR code, so plan to scan it. If your screen does offer a key, you can tap +, then Enter key manually in Novaz and type it as the Setup key. See What is a 2FA setup key?
Download your backup codes
Once 2FA is on, the same tab shows a Backup codes section with a Download backup codes button. Each code works one time only. The article's text calls them recovery codes and says you get three during setup (Lokalise).
Download them straight away. Unless you've made a Novaz backup (iCloud backup or a backup file), its keys exist only on your iPhone, so these codes are what gets you back in if that phone is lost or broken. Keep them away from the phone, in a password manager or on paper. Lokalise says the codes stay available in your profile settings, so you can download them again later while you can still sign in. See 2FA backup codes.
When Lokalise asks for a code
Every time you log in, after your password (Lokalise). Lokalise's help doesn't describe an option to remember a trusted device.
If Lokalise rejects your code
Lokalise's help puts a code that won't verify down to the phone's time being out of step. Its fix is written for Google Authenticator's time-correction setting, and it says to contact Lokalise support if the code still fails afterward (Lokalise).
With Novaz, check the iPhone's clock instead: Settings > General > Date & Time > Set Automatically. Novaz shows a warning if the clock has drifted by 15 seconds or more. For other things to check, see Authenticator code not working?.
Moving to a new phone
Lokalise's way is to sign in, open your profile settings, turn 2FA off, and turn it back on with the authenticator app on the new phone (Lokalise). Signing in takes a code, so do this while you still have the old iPhone. Lokalise doesn't say whether your backup codes change when you do this, so download them again afterward.
If you restore Novaz on the new iPhone from an iCloud backup or backup file, Lokalise comes with it and you don't need the reset. Without one, this reset is how you move it. See How to transfer your authenticator app to a new iPhone.
If you lose your authenticator
Sign in with one of your backup codes in place of the authenticator code. If you've lost the codes or used them all, Lokalise's customer support has to restore your access. You can reach it through the chat widget in the bottom-right corner of Lokalise's website, or by email at support@lokalise.com (Lokalise).
Lokalise's help doesn't say what proof support asks for or how long it takes. For a step-by-step plan, see Lost the phone with your authenticator app?.
Turning 2FA off
On the Two-factor authentication tab of your profile, select Disable two-factor authentication and follow the prompts. Lokalise then suggests removing its entry from your authenticator app (Lokalise). In Novaz, open the Lokalise account and tap Remove account. If your team enforces 2FA, you'll need it on again to work in the team's projects.
