Union Bank & Trust 2FA: how to set up an authenticator app in UBTgo

Novaz steps checked against version 1.0.5

At Union Bank & Trust (UBT), multifactor authentication (MFA) isn't optional. UBT requires it on UBTgo, its online and mobile banking, and asks you to pick a method the first time you sign in with your username and password (Union Bank & Trust). You can choose an authenticator app, a text message or a voice call. This guide covers the authenticator app, using Authenticator App - Novaz on iPhone. Any authenticator app works the same way.
How we checked this guide: the UBT steps come from Union Bank & Trust's own learning center, linked below, which we read on October 22, 2026. The ubt.com website didn't answer our plain requests, so we read archived copies of its pages on web.archive.org (from April to October 2026). We haven't tested the steps on a UBTgo account, so a label may differ slightly. The Novaz steps are checked against the app, version 1.0.5.
Why pick the authenticator app
UBT's own article points out two things in its favor: the codes work without mobile coverage, and a SIM swap can't redirect them, because they come from your device rather than your phone number (Union Bank & Trust). More on the trade-off in Authenticator app vs. SMS.
Set up the authenticator app
There are two ways in. If you're new to UBTgo, the setup screen appears on your first sign-in. If you already use text or voice codes, add the app from your profile (Union Bank & Trust):
- On a computer: open the Profile drop-down under your username in the top right corner, then choose Update Profile Info. In the UBT User Profile Center, find Multifactor Authentication.
- In the UBTgo app: tap More in the bottom menu, then Profile Updates, then Multifactor Authentication.
Then:
- Choose the authenticator app option.
- Select iPhone or Android, then Next. UBT says the steps are the same for both.
- The screen names Google Authenticator, but UBT says other authenticator apps work too. You don't need to install Google's app to use Novaz.
- UBT shows a QR code. In Novaz, tap +, then Scan QR code, and point the camera at it.
- Enter the six-digit code from Novaz and select Verify.
If you're setting this up in the UBTgo app on the same iPhone that has Novaz, you can't point the camera at your own screen. Take a screenshot of the QR code, then in Novaz tap + and Choose a photo. See scanning a QR code on the same iPhone.
UBT's article doesn't say whether the screen also offers a text key to type in, or how often the codes change. Scanning the QR code is the safer route, because it carries the code settings to Novaz. If you do find a key and type it in with Enter key manually, Novaz uses 6 digits every 30 seconds.
Add a second method
UBT recommends starting with one method and then adding at least one more, since each one is handy in different situations (Union Bank & Trust). With Novaz this matters more than usual. UBT's pages don't mention backup codes, and unless you back up Novaz with iCloud backup or a backup file, its keys are only on your iPhone. A phone number registered for text or voice codes is your fallback if that iPhone is lost. Use the same Multifactor Authentication screen in your profile to add it.
When UBTgo asks for a code
UBT's pages don't list every case. Its UBTgo FAQ does say that a sign-in from a device UBTgo doesn't recognize triggers MFA. Budgeting apps and other account aggregators don't keep cookies, so each of their logins looks like a new device and asks for a code every time (Union Bank & Trust).
If UBTgo rejects your code
UBT doesn't publish advice for rejected authenticator codes. The usual cause is the iPhone's clock: go to Settings > General > Date & Time and turn on Set Automatically. Novaz warns you when the clock is 15 seconds or more off. For other causes, see Authenticator code not working?
Changing phones
UBT doesn't describe moving the authenticator to a new phone. With a Novaz iCloud backup or backup file, you can restore your accounts on the new iPhone and keep the same codes. Without one, plan to enroll the app again on the new iPhone through Multifactor Authentication while you can still sign in, ideally with your text or voice method as a backstop. See How to transfer your authenticator app to a new iPhone.
If you lose your authenticator
If you added a text or voice method, use it to sign in, then enroll the app again on your new phone. If the authenticator app was your only method, UBT's pages don't explain how to reset it, what proof it asks for, or how long it takes. Call UBTgo support at 833-323-1454 or UBT's main line at (800) 297-2837, both listed on UBT's site (Union Bank & Trust). Keep in mind that UBT says no employee will ever call, text or email to ask for your password (Union Bank & Trust), so only use numbers you looked up yourself.
