Your Binance account is where you trade and hold crypto, and withdrawing from it effectively requires two-factor authentication (2FA): Binance says you need at least three security methods turned on first (Binance). The choices are passkeys, SMS, email codes and an authenticator app, and Binance's security tips favor a passkey or an authenticator app over SMS (Binance, Binance).

Binance's help is written for Google Authenticator and its own BAuthenticator, but the setup is a standard QR code and key. This guide uses Authenticator App - Novaz on iPhone, and other authenticator apps follow the same steps.

How we checked this guide: the Binance steps come from Binance's own support FAQ and blog, linked below, which we read on October 20, 2026. We haven't tested them on a Binance account, so a label may differ slightly. The Novaz steps are checked against the app, version 1.0.5.

Turn on 2FA with an authenticator app

On the website (Binance):

  1. Hover over the Profile icon, click Account, go to Security and click Manage next to Authenticator App.
  2. Click Enable Authenticator App. Binance shows a QR code and a setup key. Don't click Next yet.
  3. In Novaz, tap +, then Scan QR code, and point the camera at the screen.
  4. Click Next and type the 6-digit code from Novaz.

In the Binance app (Binance):

  1. Tap the Account icon, tap your profile at the top, and go to Security.
  2. Tap Authenticator App, then Enable, and copy the setup key.
  3. In Novaz, tap +, then Enter key manually. Type Binance as the Service, add your email as the Account if you like, and paste the key into Setup key. See What is a 2FA setup key?
  4. Go back to the Binance app, tap Next, and enter the 6-digit code from Novaz.

You can also screenshot the QR code and use + and Choose a photo (scanning a QR code on the same iPhone). Binance doesn't say how often its codes change. If codes from a typed key fail, remove the account and add it from the QR code, which carries Binance's own settings.

No backup codes, so keep the key

Binance's 2FA pages don't mention backup codes. A 2023 Binance blog post says to save the 16-character setup key somewhere safe, so you can restore the authenticator after losing your device (Binance). Unless you use Novaz's iCloud backup or a backup file, the key exists only on your iPhone, so the saved copy is your way back. Keep it in a password manager or on paper.

When Binance asks for a code

You'll need a code to sign in and to withdraw funds, among other actions (Binance). If you turn on Must verify using passkey for important scenarios, sign-ins and withdrawals ask for your passkey (Binance).

Binance's tips are blunt: "Never share the 2FA codes to anyone." Binance also says it won't call you or message you on WhatsApp or other social media (Binance).

If Binance rejects your code

Binance's FAQ covers binding failed at setup and verification code error at sign-in (Binance, Binance):

  • Make sure your phone and the computer you sign in from both have the right time. On iPhone: Settings > General > Date & Time > Set Automatically. Novaz warns you when the clock is 15 seconds or more off.
  • Check your password and the code you typed.
  • Try a private (incognito) window, clear the browser's cache and cookies, or sign in from the Binance app.

If that fails, Binance says to change the authenticator. More causes: Authenticator code not working?

Changing phones or apps

Do this while the old phone still works (Binance, Binance):

  1. Under Security, open Authenticator App (on the website, click Manage next to it).
  2. Select the edit icon next to your authenticator, read the notes, choose Continue and complete 2FA.
  3. Add the new QR code or 16-character key to Novaz on the new iPhone, then choose Next.
  4. Enter the 6-digit code and choose Submit.

Withdrawals, internal transfers and P2P trades are then blocked for up to 48 hours (older Binance pages say 24). The FAQ describes changing the authenticator, not removing it.

If you restore Novaz from iCloud backup or a backup file on the new iPhone, you can skip this; without one, every new phone means doing this again (moving to a new iPhone). If you use the passkey setting above, Binance says to turn it off before changing devices (Binance).

If you lose your authenticator

Binance's self-service reset starts at sign-in (Binance):

  1. Click Log In, enter your email or phone number and click Next. If a passkey prompt appears, click Cancel, then My Passkeys Are Not Available.
  2. Enter your password and click Next.
  3. On the verification page, choose the method you can't use, then Security verification unavailable?.
  4. On Reset Security Verification, tick every method you've lost, then click Confirm Reset and Confirm.
  5. Verify with the methods you still have. If asked, add a new phone number or email with Get Code and Submit.

Application Denied means check your methods and try again. Under Review can take up to 24 hours; Binance emails the result. After a reset, withdrawals, P2P selling, internal transfers and payment services are off for up to 48 hours.

If the manual reset fails, Binance takes a video appeal: you film yourself holding the ID you verified the account with while reading a short statement, then send it with a photo of the ID through its appeal link or live chat. No time frame is given (Binance).

If you've also forgotten your password and can't reset it without 2FA, Binance says to contact Customer Support. More in Lost the phone with your authenticator app?
