Domeneshop is a Norwegian domain registrar and web host (its English site is Domainnameshop, at domainname.shop). This guide covers the control panel, My account, where you manage domains, DNS, email and hosting. Two-factor authentication (2FA) is optional. The current method is a time-based code (TOTP) from an authenticator app, and the help pages mention SMS only as something you can switch away from (Domeneshop).

Domeneshop's help pages don't mention backup codes. Instead, you get a master key (spelled "masterkey" in places), and Domeneshop suggests a second device as a spare (Domeneshop). This guide uses Authenticator App - Novaz on iPhone. Any authenticator app works the same way.

How we checked this guide: the Domeneshop steps come from Domeneshop's own FAQ pages, in English and Norwegian, linked below, which we read on October 21, 2026. We haven't tested them on a Domeneshop account, so a label may differ slightly. The Novaz steps are checked against the app, version 1.0.5.

What 2FA protects

Email, FTP and MySQL have their own usernames and passwords, separate from the control panel (Domeneshop). Domeneshop recommends TOTP for domain administration (Domeneshop), and its pages don't say the code covers those other logins.

Turn on 2FA with an authenticator app

These are the steps from Domeneshop's FAQ (Domeneshop). The Norwegian page uses Norwegian labels, such as Konto-informasjon and Login-sikkerhet (Domeneshop).

  1. Sign in to My account at domainname.shop/login (or domeneshop.no/login).
  2. Click Account-information.
  3. Find Login Security in the middle of the page. It's set to Normal login (password) until you change it.
  4. Choose Two-factor authentication (password + TOTP), then click Save Changes at the bottom of the page.
  5. A yellow box appears. Read it, and write down the master key before you go on.
  6. Domeneshop shows a QR code. In Novaz, tap +, then Scan QR code, and point the camera at it. If the page is open on the same iPhone, take a screenshot and use Choose a photo instead. See scanning a QR code on the same iPhone.
  7. Type the code from Novaz into Enter token (6 digits): and click Confirm.

The master key is Domeneshop's name for the text setup key. To type it, tap + in Novaz, then Enter key manually, and paste it into Setup key. Domeneshop doesn't say how often its codes change or how long the key is, so if Novaz rejects the key or the codes don't match, scan the QR code instead. See What is a 2FA setup key?

The master key is your backup

Domeneshop says you can use the master key later to add the account to your app by hand, for example if the app gets reset (Domeneshop). One account can also have several TOTP setups with the same access. Domeneshop recommends one on a spare phone, tablet or computer, and one per trusted person in a company.

This matters with Novaz if you haven't made a backup (iCloud backup or a backup file), because the keys then exist only on your iPhone. Keep the master key in a password manager or on paper, away from your phone.

See the master key again

While you can still sign in, click Add device/Show masterkey in your account information. Type a current code into Enter token (6 digits): and click Confirm. Domeneshop then shows the master key and the QR code again (Domeneshop). Use this to add a second device or a new phone.

If Domeneshop rejects your code

Domeneshop's pages don't cover rejected codes. The usual cause is the iPhone's clock: open Settings > General > Date & Time and turn on Set Automatically. Novaz warns you when the clock is 15 seconds or more off. More causes are in Authenticator code not working?

Changing phones

Before you give up the old phone, sign in, use Add device/Show masterkey, and scan the QR code with Novaz on the new iPhone, or type in the master key you saved. Or, if you have a Novaz iCloud backup or backup file, restore your accounts on the new iPhone and Domeneshop comes along. See How to transfer your authenticator app to a new iPhone.

If you lose your authenticator

If you saved the master key, add it to an authenticator app on any phone and you'll get working codes again. A second device works too.

Without either, Domeneshop's help pages don't describe a recovery route, what proof it asks for, or how long it takes. Its customer service is at support@domainnameshop.com or (+47) 2294 3333 (Domeneshop). The "forgot password" page sends a one-time code for a lost password (Domeneshop), but the pages don't say whether it gets you past 2FA. See Lost the phone with your authenticator app?

Replace the key or turn 2FA off

The same control panel is where you switch from SMS to TOTP, turn 2FA off, or view the QR code and master key (Domeneshop). To replace a master key someone else may have seen, turn 2FA off and on again, then add the new key to Novaz. Open the old Domeneshop entry in Novaz and tap Remove account.
