Emplifi 2FA: how to set up an authenticator app

Emplifi is the platform many marketing and care teams use for social publishing, analytics and customer conversations. Its two-factor setup is unusual: your company's Emplifi account turns on multi-factor authentication (MFA) for everyone at once, and from then on each user has to enter a verification code after their email and password. That code goes to your login email by default. An authenticator app is an option each user can switch on for themselves, and Emplifi offers no SMS method (Emplifi).
This guide moves your codes from email to an authenticator app. We use Authenticator App - Novaz on iPhone in the steps, but any authenticator app works the same way.
How we checked this guide: the Emplifi steps come from Emplifi's own Documentation Center, linked below, which we read on October 21, 2026. We haven't tested them on an Emplifi account, so a label may differ slightly. The Novaz steps are checked against the app, version 1.0.5.
Can you turn MFA off?
Not for yourself. Emplifi's help says MFA is mandatory and that individual users can't disable it (Emplifi). What you choose is where the code comes from: email or an authenticator app. Email became the default in July 2024; before that, an authenticator app was the only method (Emplifi).
If your company uses single sign-on (SSO), Emplifi doesn't ask for its own code, so this guide doesn't apply.
Switch to an authenticator app
Emplifi describes these steps (Emplifi):
- Sign in to Emplifi and go to Settings > Personal settings.
- Open the Security tab and turn on the switch next to Authenticate with authenticator app.
- A pop-up shows a QR code and an activation code. In Novaz, tap +, then Scan QR code, and point the camera at the QR code. If Emplifi is open on the same iPhone, take a screenshot and use Choose a photo instead. See scanning a QR code on the same iPhone.
- If you can't scan, use the activation code, which is Emplifi's name for the setup key. In Novaz, tap +, then Enter key manually. Type Emplifi as the Service and the activation code as the Setup key. See What is a 2FA setup key?
- Back in Emplifi, click Next Step, type the code from Novaz, and click Enable.
- Emplifi shows your recovery codes. Save them somewhere safe, then click Done.
From the next sign-in, Emplifi asks for the app's code and no longer emails one. Emplifi's help doesn't say how many digits its codes have or how often they change. Scanning the QR code is the safer choice, because it passes those settings to your app.
Recovery codes
Emplifi creates recovery codes when you add the app and emails you a notice, without the codes. On the Security tab, View Codes shows them again, and Generate new codes in that pop-up replaces the whole set, which makes the old ones stop working. You can also create codes without an app through Generate Codes (Emplifi).
Store the codes away from the phone. They get you in if it's lost and you have no Novaz backup, or only one made before you added Emplifi. More in 2FA backup codes.
When Emplifi asks for a code
You enter a code after your email and password when you sign in. A session lasts seven days from your last activity, and each action in Emplifi resets that clock (Emplifi). If you log out, you'll need a code to get back in, unless you tick Skip authentication on this device for the next 7 days at the code step. That skips codes in that browser for a week.
If Emplifi rejects your code
Emplifi's FAQ only covers Google Authenticator's time sync on Android, but the cause it points to, a clock that's off, applies to every app. On iPhone, open Settings > General > Date & Time and turn on Set Automatically. Novaz warns you when the clock is 15 seconds or more off. Other causes are in Authenticator code not working?
Moving to a new iPhone
Emplifi has a built-in transfer. While you can still sign in with a code from your current phone, go to Settings > Personal settings > Security and click Add new app. Then scan the new QR code with the new phone and finish with Next Step and Enable. The old phone's codes stop working, and so do your old recovery codes: save the new set Emplifi shows (Emplifi).
If you restore a Novaz iCloud backup or backup file on the new iPhone, the Emplifi entry comes with it and you don't need this. Otherwise use this route, and don't delete the Emplifi entry from the old phone first. See How to transfer your authenticator app to a new iPhone.
If you lose your authenticator
On the screen where Emplifi asks for the code, you have two ways in without the app (Emplifi):
- enter one of your recovery codes, or
- ask Emplifi to send a verification code to your login email.
Once you're in, either set up the app again on a new phone with Add new app, or turn the app off (below) and go back to email codes. If you have neither recovery codes nor access to your email, Emplifi says to contact Emplifi Support at support@emplifi.io. Its help doesn't list what proof Support asks for or how long it takes. Going back to email codes
On the Security tab, turn off the switch next to Authenticate with authenticator app and confirm. Emplifi goes back to emailing your codes, and the app's codes stop working. Your recovery codes stay valid until you generate new ones. After that, you can remove Emplifi from Novaz: open the entry and tap Remove account (Emplifi).
