FanDuel 2FA: how to set up an authenticator app
By the Novaz team · Updated October 29, 2026
Novaz steps checked against version 1.0.5
On this page
You use your FanDuel account to bet on FanDuel Sportsbook, play daily fantasy contests and play FanDuel Casino. Depending on where you live, two-factor authentication (2FA) may not be your choice. FanDuel says state rules oblige operators in Connecticut, Illinois, New Jersey, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Vermont and Wyoming to use it. Anyone who has had activity in New Jersey has to use it too (FanDuel). In other states it's optional.
The second step is a 6-digit code, either sent by text message or made by an authenticator app on your phone. This guide covers the app. It uses Authenticator App - Novaz on iPhone, but any authenticator app works the same way. If you're weighing the two options, see authenticator app vs. SMS.
How we checked this guide: the FanDuel steps come from FanDuel's own two-factor authentication page, linked below. fanduel.com turned away our automated reader, so on October 20, 2026 we read the newest archived copy on web.archive.org, saved on April 24, 2025. FanDuel's support articles only show their text once scripts run in a browser, so we couldn't read those. We haven't tested the steps on a FanDuel account, and FanDuel may have moved or renamed things since that copy was saved. The Novaz steps are checked against the app, version 1.0.5.
The state list comes from that April 2025 copy. A March 2023 copy named only four of those states, so the list may be longer today.
Where FanDuel keeps the setting
The setting isn't in the same place for every FanDuel product (FanDuel):
- Sportsbook: under Account Summary.
- Fantasy: under Account Settings.
The page also has a Set up Casino Authentication button, but it doesn't say where the setting sits in Casino. The button leads to the Casino home page.
If you have both a Sportsbook account and a Fantasy account, FanDuel says 2FA is turned on for both automatically.
Turn on 2FA with an authenticator app
FanDuel's page doesn't walk through each screen. It says you pick the kind of verification you want, then the app guides you through the rest (FanDuel). The outline:
- Sign in to FanDuel and open Account Summary (Sportsbook) or Account Settings (Fantasy). FanDuel's 2FA page also has Set up Sportsbook Authentication and Set up Fantasy Authentication buttons that take you to the setting.
- Open two-factor authentication and choose the authenticator app rather than SMS.
- Add FanDuel to Novaz. If FanDuel shows a QR code, tap +, then Scan QR code, and point the camera at it. If the code is on the same iPhone, take a screenshot, tap +, then Choose a photo. See scanning a QR code on the same iPhone.
- If FanDuel gives you a key to type instead, tap +, then Enter key manually. Put FanDuel in Service, your email in Account if you like, and the key in Setup key. See What is a 2FA setup key?
- Type the 6-digit code that Novaz shows into FanDuel to finish.
The page doesn't say whether FanDuel offers a QR code, a typed key or both, or how often its codes change. When you have the choice, scan the QR code, because it passes the code settings to Novaz. A key typed by hand always gets 6 digits every 30 seconds.
FanDuel recommends Google Authenticator by name, but says most authenticator apps work with it.
When FanDuel asks for a code
With 2FA on, signing in takes two steps: your email address and password first, then the 6-digit code. Once an authenticator app is linked, FanDuel says you'll need its code every time you log in (FanDuel). The page doesn't mention trusted or remembered devices.
No documented backup codes
FanDuel's page says nothing about backup or recovery codes. It also doesn't say whether you can keep SMS as a fallback once the app is set up. If FanDuel's setup screens offer any backup option, take it and store it away from your phone: it's what gets you in if the phone is lost and you have no Novaz backup. More on that in 2FA backup codes.
If FanDuel rejects your code
FanDuel's 2FA page has no advice for rejected codes. Start with the iPhone's clock: Settings > General > Date & Time > Set Automatically. Novaz warns you when the clock is 15 seconds or more off. Other causes are in Authenticator code not working?
Changing phones
FanDuel's page doesn't explain how to move 2FA to a new phone. With a Novaz iCloud backup or backup file, you restore your accounts on the new iPhone and the FanDuel codes keep working. Without one, FanDuel has to be set up again on the new phone, so keep the old iPhone until that works. If you don't find a way to switch the authenticator in your settings, ask FanDuel's support team before you reset the old phone. See How to transfer your authenticator app to a new iPhone.
If you lose your authenticator
The only route FanDuel's page gives is its customer support team. Its Sportsbook, Fantasy and Casino support links all go to the FanDuel support site (FanDuel). The page doesn't say what proof of identity FanDuel asks for or how long getting back in takes. More in Lost the phone with your authenticator app?
