HTX (Huobi) 2FA: how to set up an authenticator app
By the Novaz team · Updated October 29, 2026
Novaz steps checked against version 1.0.5
On this page
Huobi, the crypto exchange, now trades as HTX, and huobi.com opens the HTX site. HTX calls its verification methods "security items": a phone number, an email address and Google Authenticator. It recommends linking all three (HTX). Despite the name, that option uses standard 6-digit codes that change every 30 seconds, so any authenticator app works. This guide uses Authenticator App - Novaz on iPhone.
How we checked this guide: the HTX steps come from HTX's own support center, linked below, which we read on October 21, 2026. HTX's most detailed setup pages are only in Chinese, so we translated their labels; the English app may word them differently. We haven't tested the steps on an HTX account. The Novaz steps are checked against the app, version 1.0.5.
What changes once it's on
HTX checks one method at sign-in, in a fixed order: if Google Authenticator is linked, it asks for that code and skips the email and SMS codes (HTX). Its English security advice also says a code from the app is needed every time you log in (HTX).
HTX also asks for a code to reset a password, withdraw, change security settings, manage API keys, create sub-accounts and release P2P orders (HTX).
Turn on 2FA with an authenticator app
HTX's English passkey article, from March 2025, shows how to reach the security page (HTX). Its Chinese setup article describes the rest (HTX):
- On the website: sign in, click your profile picture in the top right corner, then Security. HTX's Chinese pages call this page Account Security and point you to its two-factor authentication section.
- In the HTX app: go to Profile, tap Settings in the top right corner, then Security.
- Choose the Google Authenticator option. HTX first asks for the codes from the methods you already have, such as your email or phone.
- HTX shows a QR code. In Novaz, tap +, then Scan QR code. If you're setting up in the HTX app on the same iPhone, take a screenshot, tap +, then Choose a photo. See scanning a QR code on the same iPhone.
- HTX also offers a key you can type instead (HTX). In Novaz, tap +, then Enter key manually, fill in Service (for example, HTX) and paste the key as the Setup key. See What is a 2FA setup key?
- Type the 6-digit code Novaz shows. HTX's setup article reminds you to use the newest one, since codes renew every 30 seconds.
The same Security page also offers passkeys, which HTX only lets you add once 2FA is set up (HTX).
No backup codes, so keep the key
HTX's pages don't mention backup or recovery codes. An older HTX article from 2019 suggests saving the private key or QR code when you link the app, so you can add it to a new phone later (HTX). If you do that, store the key somewhere private, such as a password manager: anyone who has it can make your codes. Novaz's iCloud backup or a backup file covers you on a new iPhone; without one, a saved key, or the support route below, is your only fallback.
HTX also warned users in 2023 to turn off Google Authenticator's cloud sync, saying it could cause codes to go missing (HTX). Novaz's codes come from the keys on your iPhone, and its optional iCloud backup is a separate copy, so that warning doesn't apply.
If HTX rejects your code
HTX's advice is to make sure the authenticator and the HTX app use the same time zone. If you reinstalled your authenticator app, the old entries are gone: remove the old setup on HTX and link it again (HTX). On iPhone, the simplest fix is Settings > General > Date & Time > Set Automatically. Novaz warns you when your clock is 15 seconds or more off. More causes are in Authenticator code not working?
The 24-hour pause
Changing, resetting or removing any 2FA method blocks withdrawals and transfers for 24 hours. Deposits and trading keep working (HTX).
Changing phones
HTX doesn't give step-by-step instructions for a new phone. Its Chinese overview says you can change a security item yourself, as long as you verify that item and your other linked ones, so you need the old phone's codes to do it (HTX). If you have a Novaz iCloud backup or backup file, restore it on the new iPhone and HTX's codes keep working. Without one, add HTX on the new iPhone before you wipe the old one. See How to transfer your authenticator app to a new iPhone.
If you lose your authenticator
HTX describes three cases (HTX):
- Unlink: remove the lost method from a reset page linked in the article. You choose the method, verify your identity, upload documents and wait for HTX to approve.
- Reset: if you can still log in, contact HTX customer service. A 2FA specialist takes the case, and once it's approved you get a reset link within 48 hours.
- Change: if you can't log in at all, customer service handles it. Forgetting your password as well means extra identity checks.
The older 2019 article asked for a photo of you holding your ID, sent to htxsupport@htx-inc.com (HTX). HTX says its staff never ask for your password or codes (HTX). More in Lost the phone with your authenticator app?
Turning 2FA off
You can turn a method off after verifying your other linked methods, but HTX won't let you remove everything: a phone number or email has to stay (HTX). The 24-hour withdrawal pause applies here too.
