Localize is a translation platform for websites and apps, and your Localize user account is what you sign in with at app.localizejs.com to manage projects, phrases and team members. Its two-factor authentication (2FA) has a single method: an authenticator app. Localize's help mentions no text-message or email codes. Each person can turn it on for their own account, and an organization owner can make it mandatory for the whole team (Localize, Localize).

The steps below use Authenticator App - Novaz on iPhone. Any other authenticator app works the same way.

How we checked this guide: the Localize steps come from Localize's own help center, including the screenshots on its pages, which we read on October 21, 2026. We haven't tested them on a Localize account, so a label may differ slightly. Localize's two-factor page shows that it was last updated more than two years ago. The Novaz steps are checked against the app, version 1.0.5.

When your organization requires it

An owner can tick Mandatory two-factor authentication for all team members on the organization's Settings page, under Manage Organization, and then select Save. That rule covers the owner too. Once it's on, members who haven't set up 2FA see a message titled Two-factor auth is required, with an Enable button that takes them to their account security page (Localize). From there, the steps are the same as below.

Turn on 2FA with an authenticator app

Localize's user help describes this flow (Localize):

  1. Sign in to Localize. In the top right corner, select your name or picture, then Profile Settings.
  2. Open the Password & Security tab.
  3. In the Two Factor Authentication panel, the option Use App (like Google Authenticator) is selected. Select Next.
  4. Localize shows a QR code. In Novaz, tap +, then Scan QR code, and point the camera at it. If the code is on your iPhone's own screen, take a screenshot and use Choose a photo instead. See scanning a QR code on the same iPhone.
  5. Under the QR code, Localize also shows a text key, labeled Or copy key. To use it, tap + in Novaz, then Enter key manually, type Localize as the Service, and paste the key as the Setup key. More in What is a 2FA setup key?
  6. Select Next in Localize. A success message confirms that two-factor authentication is on. Select Got it.

Localize's screenshots don't show a box for typing a test code before the success message. If your screen asks for one, enter the current 6-digit code from Novaz.

Backup codes: not documented

Localize's page tells you to save recovery keys after setup "if you have that option," but it doesn't say whether Localize itself gives any, and its screenshots show none. If your setup screen does show recovery codes, save them away from your phone: unless you've made a Novaz backup (iCloud backup or a backup file), those codes would be your only spare way in. See 2FA backup codes.

If Localize rejects your code

Localize's help has no advice on codes that don't work. Most of the time the cause is the iPhone's clock. Go to Settings > General > Date & Time and turn on Set Automatically. Novaz shows a warning when the clock is 15 seconds or more off. Other things to check are in Authenticator code not working?

If you lose your phone or replace it

Localize documents one route for both cases: ask its customer support team to reset your 2FA by submitting a ticket, and they start the reset process (Localize). The page doesn't say what proof support asks for or how long a reset takes. See also Lost the phone with your authenticator app?

If you still have the old iPhone and your organization doesn't require 2FA, you can turn it off and set it up again on the new phone instead (below). If 2FA is mandatory, you can't turn it off, so a support reset is the documented way. If you have a Novaz iCloud backup or backup file, restoring it on the new iPhone avoids both. See How to transfer your authenticator app to a new iPhone.

Turning 2FA off

On the Password & Security tab, select Disable two-factor auth, enter your Localize password, and select Next (Localize). This isn't possible while your organization enforces mandatory 2FA. Afterwards, open the Localize entry in Novaz and tap Remove account.

Single sign-on

Organizations can also have members sign in through their own identity provider with SAML SSO, or require everyone to use Google sign-in (Localize, Localize). Localize's help doesn't say how its own 2FA works alongside these. If your team uses one of them, ask your Localize admin which sign-in protection applies to you.
