ProfitWell Metrics is the free subscription analytics tool that shows a SaaS company its recurring revenue, churn and customer data. Paddle owns it now, and profitwell.com sends you to Paddle's site, but the standalone product still has its own login and dashboard at www2.profitwell.com (Paddle).

Two-factor authentication (2FA) is optional. ProfitWell's only documented method is an authenticator app: you scan a QR code, then type a six-digit code each time you sign in, with 10 backup codes as a last resort (Paddle). This guide uses Authenticator App - Novaz on iPhone. Any authenticator app works the same way.

How we checked this guide: the ProfitWell steps come from the ProfitWell Metrics articles in Paddle's help center, including their screenshots, linked below, which we read on October 21, 2026. The screenshots date from 2019, and we haven't tested the steps on a ProfitWell account, so a label may differ slightly. The Novaz steps are checked against the app, version 1.0.5.

Which login this covers

There are two ways into Metrics, and they don't share a 2FA setting:

  • A standalone ProfitWell account, where you sign in with your ProfitWell email and password. That's the account this guide covers.
  • Metrics inside the Paddle dashboard. If your company sells through Paddle, team members with the Admin, Technical or Subscription KPIs role see a Metrics tab in Paddle itself (Paddle). Then you sign in with your Paddle login, and two-factor authentication is set in Paddle's User Settings instead (Paddle).

Turn on 2FA with an authenticator app

ProfitWell's setup article describes these steps (Paddle):

  1. Sign in to ProfitWell and open your account settings. The help links straight to www2.profitwell.com/app/account/company, and its password article says the settings link sits at the lower left of the screen (Paddle).
  2. Find the Two-Factor Authentication panel, below Change Password, and click the switch marked OFF.
  3. ProfitWell asks you to scan a QR code. In Novaz, tap +, then Scan QR code, and point the camera at it. If the QR code is on your iPhone's own screen, take a screenshot and use Choose a photo instead. See scanning a QR code on the same iPhone.
  4. Follow the remaining steps on screen. ProfitWell's help doesn't list them, so have Novaz open in case it asks for a current code.
  5. Copy the 10 backup codes ProfitWell shows you and keep them somewhere safe.

ProfitWell's help mentions only the QR code. It doesn't say whether a text key is offered for typing in by hand. If you do see one, it would go in Novaz under +, then Enter key manually, as the Setup key. See What is a 2FA setup key? The codes are six digits and change every 30 seconds (Paddle), which matches what Novaz makes from a typed key.

Signing in afterwards

With 2FA on, ProfitWell asks for a code at every sign-in, after your email and password. On the Two-Factor Authentication screen, type the code from Novaz in the box labeled Enter your six-digit two-factor code and click Verify (Paddle). The help doesn't mention any option to trust a device.

Your 10 backup codes

ProfitWell suggests printing the backup codes as well as copying them. Each one works only once (Paddle). The sign-in screen calls them 10-digit codes, though the example in its 2019 screenshot mixes letters and numbers, so type each one exactly as shown.

Keep them even if you back up Novaz: they get you in if the phone is gone and the backup is missing or out of date. The help doesn't describe a way to get a fresh set of codes other than turning 2FA off and on again. More in 2FA backup codes.

If ProfitWell rejects your code

The help has no advice for rejected codes. Check your iPhone's clock first: Settings > General > Date & Time > Set Automatically. Novaz also warns you when the clock is 15 seconds or more off. Other causes are in Authenticator code not working?

If you lose your authenticator

On the sign-in screen, click backup recovery code. ProfitWell then asks you to Enter your 10-digit backup code, and you click Verify (Paddle).

Once you're in, ProfitWell recommends turning two-factor authentication off and back on, which gives you a new QR code (Paddle). Scan it into Novaz and save the new backup codes.

If you have no backup codes left, the ProfitWell articles don't describe a recovery process, what proof is needed, or how long it takes. They now live in Paddle's help center, so Paddle support is the obvious place to ask, but no page says it can reset ProfitWell 2FA. See Lost the phone with your authenticator app?

Changing phones

ProfitWell's help treats a new phone the same way as a lost one: sign in with a backup code, then turn 2FA off and on again with a new QR code. If you still have the old phone, you can skip the backup code: sign in with the old phone's code, turn 2FA off, then set it up again with Novaz on the new iPhone. Or, with a Novaz iCloud backup or backup file, restore your accounts on the new iPhone and skip this. See How to transfer your authenticator app to a new iPhone.

Turning 2FA off

In account settings, click the Two-Factor Authentication switch. A Disable Two-Factor Authentication window asks for your Account Password. Type it and click Disable (Paddle). Then open the ProfitWell entry in Novaz and tap Remove account.
