Restream is the account behind your multistreaming setup: the channels you've connected, such as YouTube, Twitch or LinkedIn, plus Restream Studio and your stream setups. Someone who gets into it can stream to all of those destinations at once, so it's worth protecting. Two-factor authentication (2FA) on Restream is optional, and it works one way only: with codes from an authenticator app. Restream's help pages don't mention text-message codes (Restream).

Two details stand out. The setting isn't under a security section: it sits on the Password tab of your settings. And instead of a list of backup codes, Restream gives you one recovery code. This guide uses Authenticator App - Novaz on iPhone, but any authenticator app works the same way.

How we checked this guide: the Restream steps come from Restream's own help center, linked below, which we read on October 21, 2026. We haven't tested them on a Restream account, so a label may differ slightly. The Novaz steps are checked against the app, version 1.0.5.

Before you start: you need a Restream password

The setup asks you to type your Restream password. If you created your account with Continue with Google, Restream says the account has no password of its own, and it's not the same as your Google password. To add one, log out and request a password reset (Restream). Do that first, then come back to set up 2FA.

Turn on 2FA with an authenticator app

Restream's help article describes these steps (Restream):

  1. Sign in to Restream and open your Settings, then the Password tab.
  2. Click Enable 2FA.
  3. Restream shows a QR code. In Novaz, tap +, then Scan QR code, and point the camera at it. If the QR code is on the same iPhone, take a screenshot, tap +, then Choose a photo. See scanning a QR code on the same iPhone.
  4. If you can't scan it, click Show secret code. In Novaz, tap +, then Enter key manually, fill in Service (for example, Restream) and type the code as the Setup key. See What is a 2FA setup key?
  5. Type the 6-digit code from Novaz under Two-factor code.
  6. Type your Restream password.
  7. Click Submit.

Restream's article says the codes are 6 digits but doesn't say how often they change. Scanning the QR code is the safer choice, because it carries the code settings to your app. A key typed by hand always gets 30-second codes.

Save your recovery code

Restream gives you a recovery code as a backup for when you lose your phone or your app. Unlike your 2FA codes, it doesn't change over time. Restream asks you to write it down, and warns that its support team can't promise to get you back in if you didn't save it (Restream, Restream). The article doesn't show the screen where the code appears, so watch for it while you finish the setup.

Without a Novaz iCloud backup or backup file, the keys exist only on your iPhone, so this code is your way back in. Store it somewhere else, such as a password manager or on paper. More in 2FA backup codes.

Signing in afterwards

The next time you log in, Restream asks for your password and then a code from your authenticator app. You can type your recovery code in that step instead (Restream).

Restream's pages don't say whether the code step also applies when you sign in with Continue with Google, or in the desktop app for Restream Chat, which signs in with your email and password.

If Restream rejects your code

Restream's help doesn't cover rejected codes. The most common cause is the iPhone's clock. Go to Settings > General > Date & Time and turn on Set Automatically. Novaz also warns you when your clock is 15 seconds or more off. Other causes are in Authenticator code not working?

Changing phones

Restream's help doesn't describe moving 2FA to a new phone, and it doesn't describe turning 2FA off. With a Novaz iCloud backup or backup file, you can restore Restream on the new iPhone. Without one, you'll need to set Restream up again. Keep the old phone and your recovery code until you've signed in successfully with the new one. See How to transfer your authenticator app to a new iPhone.

If you lose your authenticator

  1. Sign in with your password and type your recovery code in place of the app code.
  2. If you don't have the recovery code, contact Restream's support, which its help center describes as available 24/7 (Restream). Restream also lists support@restream.io for security questions (Restream).

Restream doesn't say what proof support asks for or how long a recovery takes, and it doesn't guarantee one without the recovery code. More in Lost the phone with your authenticator app?
