Teamwork.com is the project and client work platform many agencies and service teams use to plan projects, track time and bill clients. Its two-factor authentication (2FA) works with one method only: a code from an authenticator app. Teamwork.com says most authenticator apps work with it, and it's included on every subscription (Teamwork.com).
Whether you have to turn it on depends on your site. Anyone can enable it for their own profile, but a site owner can also make it mandatory for everyone, in which case you'll be asked to set it up at your next login. This guide uses Authenticator App - Novaz on iPhone, but any authenticator app works the same way.
How we checked this guide: the Teamwork.com steps come from Teamwork.com's own help center, linked below, which we read on October 21, 2026. We haven't tested them on a Teamwork.com account, so a label may differ slightly. The Novaz steps are checked against the app, version 1.0.5.
Before you start: there are no backup codes
Teamwork.com's 2FA article doesn't mention backup codes, recovery codes or a second method such as SMS (Teamwork.com). The way back in, if you lose the app, is a person: a site owner or a site admin in your site's owner company can switch your 2FA off so you can set it up again. Find out who that is before you turn it on.
Turn on 2FA with an authenticator app
The help article, last updated September 16, 2026, gives these steps (Teamwork.com):
- In Teamwork.com, click your profile icon in the main navigation menu.
- Select Edit my details, then open the Account tab.
- Click Enable next to Two-factor authentication.
- Teamwork.com asks what kind of device you have. Click Select under iOS, then Continue.
- A QR code appears. In Novaz, tap +, then Scan QR code, and point the camera at it. If the QR code is on the same iPhone, take a screenshot and use Choose a photo instead. See scanning a QR code on the same iPhone.
- If the code won't scan, select Can't scan the barcode in the setup window. Teamwork.com then shows a setup key. In Novaz, tap +, then Enter key manually, type a name such as Teamwork.com in Service, and paste or type the key into Setup key. More in What is a 2FA setup key?
- Back in Teamwork.com, click Continue to final step.
- Type the 6-digit code Novaz shows for Teamwork.com, then click Verify.
- Click Finished, then Update to go back to your site.
The article doesn't say how long each code lasts, so scanning the QR code is the safer choice: it carries the exact settings.
If your site requires 2FA
Only a site owner can require 2FA for everyone, from the profile icon > Settings > General tab > Require two-factor authentication. After that, people who haven't set it up are prompted at their next login and can't get into the site until they finish. New users have to set it up before they can accept an invitation (Teamwork.com).
The setup screens are the same as above.
Teamwork.com's help doesn't say whether it asks for a code at every login or remembers trusted devices.
If Teamwork.com rejects your code
The help center has no specific advice for rejected codes. The most common cause is a phone clock that has drifted. On your iPhone, open Settings > General > Date & Time and turn on Set Automatically. Novaz warns you when the clock is 15 seconds or more off. Other causes are in Authenticator code not working?
If you lose your authenticator
Ask a site owner or a site admin in the owner company to reset your 2FA. Teamwork.com describes the admin side like this (Teamwork.com):
- Select People in the main navigation menu and open the People tab.
- Click the pencil icon at the far right of the user's row.
- On the Account tab, click Disable next to Two-factor Authentication, then OK.
Teamwork.com emails the site owner, the admin who made the change, and you. You can then set up 2FA again from your own profile. The article doesn't cover a site owner who is locked out with no other admin to help. For that, Teamwork.com's help pages point to support@teamwork.com as the general support address (Teamwork.com), but they don't describe what proof it asks for or how long it takes.

Changing phones
Teamwork.com doesn't describe a way to move 2FA to a new phone. If you have a Novaz iCloud backup or backup file, restore your accounts on the new iPhone and the Teamwork.com codes keep working. Without one, while you still have the old phone, turn 2FA off (below), then turn it on again and scan the new QR code with Novaz on the new iPhone. If the old phone is already gone, use the admin reset above. More in How to transfer your authenticator app to a new iPhone.
Turning 2FA off
Go to your profile icon > Edit my details > Account, click Disable next to Two-factor authentication, type the current 6-digit code from Novaz, and click Submit, then Update. You need the code for this, even if you're a site admin (Teamwork.com). The article doesn't say whether this option is still available when your site requires 2FA.
Once it's off, open the Teamwork.com entry in Novaz and tap Remove account.
