Ubisoft 2FA: how to set up an authenticator app
By the Novaz team · Updated October 29, 2026
Novaz steps checked against version 1.0.5
On this page
Your Ubisoft account is the one you sign in to Ubisoft Connect with (Ubisoft). Ubisoft calls its two-factor authentication 2-Step verification and offers three methods: an authenticator app, email, or text message (Ubisoft).
Setting up the app takes an extra step: Ubisoft emails you a link, and you add the app from there. Its help asks for "one of the supported authenticator apps" but doesn't list them (Ubisoft). This guide uses Authenticator App - Novaz on iPhone, which makes the same kind of time-based codes. Any authenticator app works the same way.
How we checked this guide: the Ubisoft steps come from Ubisoft's own help center, linked below, which we read on October 19, 2026. We haven't tested them on a Ubisoft account, so a label may differ slightly. The Novaz steps are checked against the app, version 1.0.5.
Rainbow Six Siege requires it
Ubisoft lets you turn 2-Step verification off at any time (Ubisoft), but Rainbow Six Siege needs it for competitive modes such as Ranked, the Legend Division and the Siege Cup, on console and PC. On PC, those modes also need a phone number on your account. For the Legend Division, the method has to be an authenticator app (Ubisoft).
Turn on 2FA with an authenticator app
From Ubisoft's help (Ubisoft):
- Sign in to your Ubisoft account, open the Security page and go to the 2-Step verification section.
- On the Authenticator app tile, choose Activate.
- If your account has no phone number yet, Ubisoft may ask you to add a recovery phone number.
- Select Send. Ubisoft emails setup instructions to the address on your account.
- Open the email, select the link, and follow the instructions to add Ubisoft to your authenticator app.
- Once it's on, Ubisoft gives you six recovery codes. Save them right away.
Ubisoft's help stops at the email link: it doesn't describe the page it opens, or say whether there's a text key. In Novaz:
- QR code: tap +, then Scan QR code, and point the camera at it. If the email is open on your iPhone, take a screenshot and use Choose a photo. See scanning a QR code on the same iPhone.
- Key: if the page offers one, tap +, then Enter key manually, and type it as the Setup key. See What is a 2FA setup key?
Ubisoft doesn't publish its code settings, and a typed key always gives 6-digit, 30-second codes, so scan the QR code when you can. If asked for a code, type the one Novaz shows.
Keep the six recovery codes
Each recovery code works once, in place of a code from your app. If you lose them, turn 2-Step verification off and back on for a new set (Ubisoft). Unless you've made a Novaz backup, its keys exist only on your iPhone, so these codes are your way back in. Ubisoft suggests local storage or a password manager; either way, keep them off the phone. See 2FA backup codes.
When Ubisoft asks for a code
Ubisoft asks for a code each time you sign in from a device it doesn't trust (Ubisoft). On your own computer, tick Remember this device when you enter the code, then select Log in. To remove a trusted device later, go to Trusted devices on the Security page, select Manage, then Untrust (Ubisoft).
If Ubisoft rejects your code
Ubisoft's troubleshooting for the authenticator method is to sign in with a recovery code, then turn 2-Step verification off and on again (Ubisoft).
Check your iPhone's clock first: Settings > General > Date & Time > Set Automatically. Novaz warns you when the clock is 15 seconds or more off. Other causes are in Authenticator code not working?
Changing phones
Ubisoft says your codes stay tied to the device you set them up on, and only describes moving them for Google Authenticator (Ubisoft). In Novaz, you can restore your accounts on the new iPhone from iCloud backup or a backup file, and your Ubisoft codes keep working. Without a Novaz backup, do this while you still have the old phone:
- On the Security page, choose Deactivate on the authenticator method, using a code from the old phone.
- Activate it again with Novaz on the new phone, which gives you six new recovery codes.
See How to transfer your authenticator app to a new iPhone.
If you lose your authenticator
Sign in with a recovery code, then turn 2-Step verification off and set it up again on your new phone (Ubisoft).
Without recovery codes, you can still recover the account (Ubisoft), starting from the password reset (Ubisoft):
- On the Ubisoft account login page, select Can't log in?, then I forgot my password.
- Enter your account's email address, complete the Captcha, and select Continue.
- Select Don't have access to your email?, then Visit Ubisoft Help, and fill out the Account Recovery Form.
Ubisoft doesn't say what proof the form asks for or how long it takes. Have your account's email, username and linked platforms ready. More in Lost the phone with your authenticator app?
Turning 2FA off
On the Security page, in the 2-Step verification section, choose Deactivate on your method (Ubisoft). Like any 2-Step change, including Switch method, this needs a code from your app or a recovery code (Ubisoft). Ubisoft strongly recommends turning it back on.
