Wargaming 2FA: how to set up an authenticator app
By the Novaz team · Updated October 29, 2026
Novaz steps checked against version 1.0.5
On this page
One Wargaming account covers World of Tanks, World of Warships, World of Tanks Blitz and Wargaming's other games (Wargaming), so a single second factor protects all of them. Wargaming calls it Second Factor Authentication. It's optional, and the only second factor it describes is an authenticator app on your phone (Wargaming). Linking a phone number is a separate setting: Wargaming uses it to confirm changes, such as a new email address, by text message (Wargaming).
Wargaming names Google Authenticator and Microsoft Authenticator. Both make standard time-based codes, like any authenticator app. This guide uses Authenticator App - Novaz on iPhone, and other apps work the same way.
How we checked this guide: the Wargaming steps come from Wargaming's own Player Support articles, linked below, which we read on October 21, 2026. We haven't tested them on a Wargaming account, so a label may differ slightly. The Novaz steps are checked against the app, version 1.0.5.
Turn on 2FA with an authenticator app
- Sign in at wargaming.net, select your nickname in the top right corner, then Account Management (Wargaming).
- Find Second Factor Authentication and click Enable (Wargaming).
- Keep your email inbox at hand: Wargaming says you need access to it. If a phone number is linked, you also confirm the request through a free text message.
- Follow the steps on the page. Wargaming's article stops at this point and doesn't name the setup screens.
- If the page shows a QR code, in Novaz tap +, then Scan QR code. If the code is on the same iPhone, take a screenshot and use Choose a photo instead. See scanning a QR code on the same iPhone.
- If you'd rather type the secret key, tap +, then Enter key manually, and fill in Service, Account (optional) and Setup key. Wargaming doesn't say how many digits its codes have or how often they change, so scanning the QR code is the safer choice. See What is a 2FA setup key?
Write down the secret key
Wargaming's article tells you to save the secret key for your authenticator, because you'll need it to get back into your account if you lose your phone (Wargaming). It also warns: "don't delete the App or you will lose access to your Account."
Novaz's keys stay on the iPhone unless you turn on iCloud backup or export a backup file, and a file you exported before adding Wargaming won't include it. So copy the secret key into a password manager or onto paper before you finish and keep it with your backup codes.
Backup codes
Wargaming's backup codes work like this (Wargaming):
- You get ten, and each one works once.
- Wargaming emails you whenever one is used.
- To see the ones you have left or make new ones, go to Account Management, find Second Factor Authentication, click Settings, then Backup Codes, and enter a code from your app.
- New codes replace the old ones, which stop working.
- You can generate new codes at most twice in 15 minutes.

When Wargaming asks for a code
You'll need a code from your app when you sign in, reset a forgotten password or generate backup codes (Wargaming, Wargaming). Accounts with an authenticator also get an extra check when changing the password (Wargaming) and when deleting the account or canceling a deletion (Wargaming).
If you link accounts from different regions under one login and more than one has 2FA, you choose which to keep for all of them and confirm with a code (Wargaming).
If Wargaming rejects your code
Wargaming doesn't cover rejected codes. The usual cause is the iPhone's clock: open Settings > General > Date & Time and turn on Set Automatically. Novaz also warns you when your clock is 15 seconds or more off. Other causes are in Authenticator code not working?
Changing phones
Wargaming doesn't describe moving 2FA to a new phone, but two routes fit what it does say. If you saved the secret key, add it to Novaz on the new iPhone with Enter key manually. Otherwise, turn 2FA off while you still have the old phone, then turn it on again with the new one. A Novaz iCloud backup or backup file restored on the new iPhone also brings the Wargaming entry across. See How to transfer your authenticator app to a new iPhone.
If you lose your authenticator
Sign in with one of your backup codes, or add your saved secret key to a new phone. If you have neither, Wargaming says to contact Player Support (Wargaming).
If you can't sign in to open a ticket, Wargaming offers an anonymous one: open Player Support, choose your game, click Contact Support, pick a category under Login issues, then Create Ticket and Send Ticket. Replies go to the contact email you give in the ticket. Wargaming only handles these requests from the person who registered the account (Wargaming). It doesn't say what proof it asks for or how long it takes.

Turning 2FA off
In Account Management, find Second Factor Authentication, click Settings, then Disable Second Factor Authentication, and follow the steps. You need access to your second factor to do this (Wargaming). Afterwards, open Wargaming in Novaz and tap Remove account.
