Blade & Soul 2FA: how to set up an authenticator app
By the Novaz team · Updated October 29, 2026
Novaz steps checked against version 1.0.5
On this page
Blade & Soul in North America and Europe no longer has an account system of its own. NC America has moved the old NCWEST accounts used for Blade & Soul, Aion and Lineage II to PLAYNC accounts, which you sign in to through the PURPLE launcher (NC). So two-step verification for Blade & Soul is a setting on your PLAYNC account, not in the game.
NC calls it 2-Step Verification or OTP. NC added it as an option for signing in to its games, and it works with apps that make standard time-based codes (NC). This guide uses Authenticator App - Novaz on iPhone, but any authenticator app works the same way.
How we checked this guide: the steps come from NC's own pages, linked below, which we read on October 22, 2026. Blade & Soul's old support site is offline and NC's current help center only loads with JavaScript, so we read archived copies of NC's pages on web.archive.org. NC's newest notice on authenticators was written for Lineage II, which uses the same PLAYNC account. We haven't tested any of this on a Blade & Soul account, so labels may have changed. The Novaz steps are checked against the app, version 1.0.5.
Turn on 2FA with an authenticator app
NC's April 2024 notice, from after the move to PLAYNC, describes this setup (NC):
- Sign in to your PLAYNC account's security page at security.plaync.com.
- Next to 2-Step Verification, click Add.
- NC shows a QR code next to a CODE, a string of letters and numbers. Write the code down on paper and keep it somewhere safe. NC says you'll need it to add the authenticator to a new device if you lose your phone.
- In Novaz, tap +, then Scan QR code, and point the camera at the QR code. If the page is open on the same iPhone, take a screenshot and use Choose a photo instead. See scanning a QR code on the same iPhone.
- If you can't scan it, tap +, then Enter key manually, and type the CODE as the Setup key. See What is a 2FA setup key?
- Follow the rest of the steps on the page. NC's notice doesn't show the last screen, so if it asks for a code, enter the current one from Novaz.
NC doesn't say how long the key is. Novaz can only take a typed key of 16 characters or more, so scanning the QR code is the safer route.
What NC gives you instead of backup codes
NC's pages don't mention backup or recovery codes. What they tell you to keep is the CODE from the setup screen, the text form of the QR code. It's effectively your backup, and anyone who has it can make your codes, so keep it off your computer, as Blade & Soul's older support article advised (Blade & Soul).
Unless you back up Novaz with iCloud backup or a backup file, its keys exist only on your iPhone, so this paper copy matters.
When you'll be asked for a code
NC describes the authenticator as a step at game login: you enter your account name and password, then a six-digit code from the app. NC says to enter that code with the mouse, because the number pad is disabled on that screen (NC). Blade & Soul's older article describes the same screen (Blade & Soul).
Each PLAYNC account gets its own key, so add each account to Novaz separately.
If Blade & Soul rejects your code
NC's pages don't cover rejected codes. The usual cause is a phone clock that has drifted: on iPhone, open Settings > General > Date & Time and turn on Set Automatically. Novaz warns you when the clock is 15 seconds or more off. More causes are in Authenticator code not working?
Moving to a new iPhone
NC's route is to unlink the authenticator from the Security section of your account management page, then go through the setup again on the new phone (NC). Do it while you still have the old phone. If you have a Novaz iCloud backup or backup file, you can restore your accounts on the new iPhone instead. See How to transfer your authenticator app to a new iPhone.
If you lose your authenticator
If you kept the CODE, NC says it lets you add the authenticator to a new device. In Novaz, type it with Enter key manually (16 characters or more).
Without your phone and without the code, NC Support has to unlink the authenticator for you. NC's Lineage II walkthrough: go to NC Support, choose the game (Blade & Soul for you), click Submit an Inquiry, pick Account Issues, and ask to unlink your authenticator (NC). Support verifies your identity first. NC doesn't say what proof it wants or how long it takes. More help in Lost the phone with your authenticator app?
Turning 2FA off
You need a working code to switch it off. NC's steps: sign in to your NC account on the web, click DEACTIVATE next to Two-Step Verification in the account security section, click DEACTIVATE again, enter the 6-digit code and click VERIFY, then OK (NC). These labels date back to the old NCWEST pages, so the current PLAYNC page may word them differently. Then open the account in Novaz and tap Remove account.
