Wefunder is the crowdfunding site where you invest small amounts in startups, or raise a round for your own company. Your account holds your portfolio, your bank links and your tax documents, so it's worth more protection than a password alone. Its Login & Security page lists 2FA by text message (SMS), an authenticator app and passkeys, and one action always asks for a second step: downloading your tax documents (Wefunder). Its help also mentions codes by email (Wefunder). Otherwise two-factor authentication (2FA) is optional.

This guide sets up the authenticator app option with Authenticator App - Novaz on iPhone. Any authenticator app works the same way.

How we checked this guide: the Wefunder steps come from Wefunder's own help center, linked below, which we read on October 21, 2026. We read the help center's public Markdown versions of its articles, and one older Wefunder help page that's no longer online in an archived copy on web.archive.org. We haven't tested them on a Wefunder account, so a label may differ slightly. The Novaz steps are checked against the app, version 1.0.5.

What Wefunder's help covers, and what it doesn't

Wefunder's documentation is short on 2FA. Its current help center confirms that the authenticator app setting exists and says where it is. It doesn't describe the setup screens, backup codes, or how often codes change. Its troubleshooting article only covers text and email codes (Wefunder).

An older Wefunder help page, last archived in February 2026, described the authenticator option as a way to generate one-time codes with an app or browser extension, alongside SMS and security keys (Wefunder, archived). Wefunder has since moved its help center, and that page is gone.

Turn on 2FA with an authenticator app

Use a browser. Wefunder has discontinued its mobile app, and its help points everyone to the website at wefunder.com/login (Wefunder).

  1. Sign in to Wefunder.
  2. Open the avatar menu and choose Settings, then Login & Security in the sidebar (Wefunder).
  3. Next to Authenticator App, choose Add.
  4. Wefunder's help doesn't show the next screens. If Wefunder shows a QR code, open Novaz, tap +, then Scan QR code, and point the camera at it. If the code is on the same iPhone, take a screenshot and use Choose a photo instead. See scanning a QR code on the same iPhone.
  5. If Wefunder shows a text key instead, tap +, then Enter key manually in Novaz. Type "Wefunder" as the Service, your email as the Account, and the key as the Setup key. See What is a 2FA setup key?
  6. Type the code Novaz shows when Wefunder asks for it, and finish the setup.

Because the help doesn't say whether the codes use the usual 6 digits every 30 seconds, scan the QR code if you can. A QR code carries the code settings to the app. A typed key always gets 6 digits every 30 seconds.

According to the same help article, the Two-Factor Authentication section of Login & Security only appears once 2FA is already on. If you don't see it before setup, that's expected.

No documented backup codes

Wefunder's help doesn't mention backup or recovery codes. Without an iCloud backup or a backup file, Novaz's keys exist only on your iPhone. If you also add a phone number for SMS on the Login & Security page, you may have something other than your iPhone to fall back on, though the help doesn't say how Wefunder chooses between methods at sign-in. Passkeys are listed on the same page, but the help doesn't say whether one can stand in for a 2FA code. Text codes are weaker than an app; see authenticator app vs. SMS.

If Wefunder rejects your code

Wefunder's help has no advice for rejected authenticator codes. Check your iPhone's clock first: Settings > General > Date & Time > Set Automatically. Novaz also warns you when the clock is 15 seconds or more off. Other causes are in Authenticator code not working?

Changing phones

Wefunder's help doesn't describe moving the authenticator to a new phone. If you have a Novaz iCloud backup or backup file, you can restore your accounts on the new iPhone and keep the same codes. Otherwise, while you still have the old phone, sign in and look at the authenticator entry under Login & Security. Your goal is to remove it and choose Add again with the new phone. The help doesn't confirm a remove option, so if you can't find one, ask support before you give up the old phone. See How to transfer your authenticator app to a new iPhone.

If you lose your authenticator

If you set up SMS as well, try that first. Otherwise, email Wefunder support at support@wefunder.com. Its account access article asks you to say whether you still have your authentication device. It also asks for exactly what you see on the sign-in page and any error message, with a screenshot if you can (Wefunder). The help doesn't list what proof of identity it asks for in this case. Wefunder says replies usually take 24 to 48 hours (Wefunder).
