cyon 2FA: how to set up an authenticator app for my.cyon
By the Novaz team · Updated October 29, 2026
Novaz steps checked against version 1.0.5
On this page
my.cyon is the control panel of cyon, a Swiss web host, where you manage your hosting, domains and other products. You sign in at my.cyon.ch with your email address and password (cyon). Two-factor authentication (2FA) is optional, but cyon recommends it, even for logins several people share (cyon).
There is one method: a code from an app that supports TOTP. cyon doesn't send codes by text message or email (cyon). This guide uses Authenticator App - Novaz on iPhone. Any authenticator app works the same way.
How we checked this guide: the cyon steps come from cyon's own Supportcenter articles, linked below, which are in German. cyon's website blocked our automated requests, so on October 20, 2026, we read archived copies saved on web.archive.org in March 2026 (archived setup article). We haven't tested the steps on a cyon account, so a label may differ slightly. The Novaz steps are checked against the app, version 1.0.5.
Turn on 2FA with an authenticator app
The labels below are the German ones from cyon's article, with a translation in brackets (cyon):
- Sign in to my.cyon and click your email address at the top right to open Meine Daten (My details).
- Scroll down to the my.cyon Login section. In the Zwei-Faktor-Authentifizierung row, click Aktivieren (Activate).
- A window shows a QR code. In Novaz, tap +, then Scan QR code. If my.cyon is open on the same iPhone, take a screenshot and use Choose a photo instead. See scanning a QR code on the same iPhone.
- Can't scan? Click Keine Kamera? (No camera?). cyon's article doesn't show that screen. If it gives you a text key, tap + in Novaz, then Enter key manually, and type it as the Setup key.
- Type the current code from Novaz into the field 2. Code eingeben (Enter code), then click Code verifizieren (Verify code).
From the next sign-in on, my.cyon asks for a code after your password.
cyon doesn't publish how many digits its codes have or how often they change. A QR code carries those settings to Novaz, while a key typed by hand always gets 6-digit codes every 30 seconds. Scan the QR code when you can.
Scan from inside Novaz, not with the Camera app
cyon notes that on an iPhone with iOS 18, scanning the QR code with the Camera app adds the login to Apple's Passwörter (Passwords) app, which then makes your codes (cyon). If you never picked an app and can't find your code, look there. To keep it in Novaz, scan from inside Novaz. See Apple Passwords vs. an authenticator app.
No backup codes, but you can add a second device
cyon's setup article doesn't mention backup or recovery codes. It does say that during activation the QR code can be scanned by several devices, and each of them will then make valid codes for your login (cyon).
That matters with Novaz if you don't use iCloud backup or a backup file, because its keys then exist only on your iPhone. Before you type the code in step 5, scan the same QR code with a second device you control, such as another phone or a password manager that makes 2FA codes. That copy is your spare if the iPhone is lost, so guard it like your password.
When my.cyon asks for a code
At every sign-in, after your password. On your first sign-in with 2FA, you can tick Dieser Computer ist vertrauenswürdig. Code nicht mehr abfragen. (This computer is trusted. Don't ask for the code again.) my.cyon then saves a cookie in that browser and stops asking until the cookie is deleted or expires (cyon). cyon doesn't say how long the cookie lasts. Only tick the box on a computer you trust.
If my.cyon rejects your code
cyon has two suggestions (cyon):
- If the code on screen is about to change, wait for the new one and type that.
- If activation keeps calling the code wrong, check your phone's clock, since the codes depend on the time. On iPhone, open Settings > General > Date & Time and turn on Set Automatically. Novaz also warns you when the clock is 15 seconds or more off.

Changing phones or turning 2FA off
cyon's articles don't describe switching 2FA off yourself or moving it to a new phone. A second device from setup keeps working while you switch. Otherwise, ask cyon to turn 2FA off, then activate it again and scan the new QR code with the new iPhone. If you use iCloud backup or a backup file in Novaz, you can restore your accounts on the new iPhone instead. Without one, keep the old one until then. See How to transfer your authenticator app to a new iPhone.
If you lose your authenticator
Use the second device if you set one up. If not, contact cyon: its article says that when you no longer have access to the app, or sign-in isn't working as it should, cyon will deactivate 2FA for you (cyon). cyon's support page lists email (mail@cyon.ch, answered Monday to Friday within 24 hours at most) and phone (+41 61 588 15 15, 09:00 to 12:00 and 13:30 to 17:00) (cyon).
The 2FA article doesn't say what proof cyon wants or how long the reset takes. When someone can no longer reach their account's email address, cyon asks for a copy of an official ID, sent to sup-id@cyon.ch (cyon), but it doesn't say whether that applies to 2FA.
