Fax.Plus is the online fax service from Alohi, a company based in Switzerland that also makes Sign.Plus (Fax.Plus). Your account holds your faxes, your fax numbers and, on team plans, your colleagues' access. Two-factor authentication (2FA) is free on every plan, and it works with an authenticator app that makes time-based codes (TOTP) (Fax.Plus). Alohi's help center doesn't describe a text-message or email option for signing in, so the app is the method. This guide uses Authenticator App - Novaz on iPhone. Any authenticator app works the same way.

How we checked this guide: the Fax.Plus steps come from Alohi's own help center, linked below, which we read on October 21, 2026. We haven't tested them on a Fax.Plus account, so a label may differ slightly. The Novaz steps are checked against the app, version 1.0.5.

Is it required?

For a single account, no. On a team account, the Owner can make it mandatory: enforcing 2FA for the whole team is one of four actions reserved for the Owner, not Admins (Fax.Plus). Alohi's security FAQ for regulated businesses recommends requiring 2FA, or single sign-on, for every user (Fax.Plus).

Turn on 2FA with an authenticator app

Alohi's help article describes these steps for Fax.Plus (Fax.Plus):

  1. Sign in to Fax.Plus on the web and open Settings from your dashboard.
  2. Choose the Security tab. Under Sign-In, find Two-Factor Authentication.
  3. Click Activate. A window called Activate Two-Factor Authentication opens.
  4. Follow the prompts in that window to link your authenticator app and confirm a code from it.

The article doesn't describe the window. If it shows a QR code, open Novaz, tap +, then Scan QR code, and point the camera at it. If the QR code is on the same iPhone, take a screenshot, tap +, then Choose a photo (see scanning a QR code on the same iPhone). If it gives you a key to type instead, tap +, then Enter key manually, and type it as the Setup key (see What is a 2FA setup key?). Then type the code Novaz shows into Fax.Plus.

The Sign.Plus steps in the same article put the setting on a tab called Account instead, so don't mix the two up if you use both products.

Save the 10 backup codes

As soon as 2FA is on, Fax.Plus gives you 10 backup codes. Each one signs you in once if you can't reach your authenticator (Fax.Plus). The help center doesn't say whether you can make a new set later, so treat these as the only set you get.

Unless you turn on iCloud backup or export a backup file in Novaz, its keys exist only on your iPhone. These codes are your way back in if the phone is gone and you have no up-to-date Novaz backup. Store them in a password manager or on paper, away from the phone. More in 2FA backup codes.

When Fax.Plus asks for a code

Every sign-in. Once 2FA is on, the help article says you'll enter your password and a code from the app each time you sign in (Fax.Plus). It doesn't mention trusting a device to skip the code.

If Fax.Plus rejects your code

The help center has no advice on rejected codes. The usual cause is the iPhone's clock: open Settings > General > Date & Time and turn on Set Automatically. Novaz warns you when the clock is 15 seconds or more off. Other causes are in Authenticator code not working?

Changing phones

Alohi doesn't describe a phone switch. The documented steps still get you there, as long as you have the old phone: in Settings > Security, under Sign-In, click Deactivate next to Two-Factor Authentication and enter a code, then click Activate and set it up on the new iPhone. If you back up Novaz with iCloud backup or a backup file, you can restore your accounts on the new iPhone instead and skip this. See How to transfer your authenticator app to a new iPhone.

If you lose your authenticator

Sign in with one of your backup codes. Without them, Alohi support has to check who you are before turning 2FA off (Fax.Plus):

  • If your account has a verified mobile number: text +1 888 233 0501 from that number.
  • If it doesn't: email support@alohi.com from the address on your account.

Either way, include your registered email address and the last 4 digits of the card you pay with. Once Alohi has checked these, it turns 2FA off and emails you a confirmation. The article doesn't say how long this takes, or what to send if no card has ever been on the account.

Team members can't request this themselves. In Alohi's words, "Only the account Owner can authorize changes to security features" (Fax.Plus), so the Owner contacts Alohi for you. If the Owner has turned on Enforce 2FA for All Users, they should switch it off for a while first. Otherwise 2FA comes back on before you can sign in again.

Turning 2FA off

Go to Settings, the Security tab, and under Sign-In click Deactivate next to Two-Factor Authentication. Enter a code from your app, and 2FA is off (Fax.Plus). Then open the Fax.Plus entry in Novaz and tap Remove account.
