One Fidelity username and password covers Fidelity.com, NetBenefits for workplace plans such as a 401(k), Fidelity Charitable, the mobile app and phone calls with a representative (Fidelity). By default, Fidelity protects that login with one-time codes by text or automated call when you log in from a device or browser it doesn't recognize (Fidelity).

On top of that, you can add a passkey, approve logins in the Fidelity Investments mobile app, or connect an authenticator app. Fidelity says it works with most authenticator apps, naming Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator and Apple's Passwords app (Fidelity). It's optional, but Fidelity strongly encourages it (Fidelity). This guide uses Authenticator App - Novaz on iPhone. Any authenticator app works the same way.

How we checked this guide: the Fidelity steps come from Fidelity's own security and help pages, linked below, which we read on October 19, 2026. Fidelity doesn't publish screen-by-screen steps for adding an authenticator to your login, so ours stop where its help does. We haven't tested them on a Fidelity account, so a label may differ slightly. The Novaz steps are checked against the app, version 1.0.5.

Turn on 2FA with an authenticator app

Fidelity says to connect the app in your security settings or in the Fidelity Investments mobile app (Fidelity). On the website:

  1. Log in at Fidelity.com and open Accounts & Trade > Security Settings.
  2. Choose to connect an authenticator app. Fidelity's public help doesn't name the buttons here, or give the path in the mobile app.
  3. If Fidelity shows a QR code, tap + in Novaz, then Scan QR code. If the code is on the same iPhone, take a screenshot and use Choose a photo. See scanning a QR code on the same iPhone.
  4. If Fidelity gives you a key instead, tap +, then Enter key manually, fill in Service, and paste or type the key as the Setup key. See What is a 2FA setup key?
  5. Type the code from Novaz into Fidelity to finish.

Fidelity doesn't say how often its codes change. A key typed by hand always gets 6 digits every 30 seconds, while a QR code carries the exact settings, so scan when you can.

NetBenefits users can also connect the authenticator in the NetBenefits app (Fidelity).

Fidelity Crypto: the Advanced withdrawal level

Here an authenticator app is a requirement. When you update your crypto withdrawal limit, you choose Standard or Advanced, and Advanced needs an authenticator app (Fidelity):

  • On Fidelity.com: in your Fidelity Crypto account, open the Account features tab, select Update next to Withdrawal security level, then Advanced and Continue. Select Set up if you haven't set up an authenticator before, scan the QR code, and enter the 6-digit code.
  • In the app: tap the three dots at the top of your crypto account, then Withdrawal security level and Advanced. Fidelity's app steps show no QR code, only Copy key. Add that key in Novaz with Enter key manually, select Continue, and enter the 6-digit code.

When Fidelity asks for a code

By default, every time you log in. Check Remember this device on a personal computer or phone and Fidelity skips the step there, though it may still ask occasionally. Sensitive actions, such as adding new bank instructions or changing your contact details, can prompt for verification anyway (Fidelity). You can review trusted devices in your security settings.

Fidelity also warns that a call or text you didn't start, asking for your security code, is a scam.

Plan a second way in

Fidelity's pages don't mention backup codes from Fidelity. Its tip is to save any recovery codes your authenticator app offers (Fidelity). Novaz doesn't give recovery codes, and its keys stay on your iPhone unless you turn on iCloud backup or export a backup file in Settings › Backup. Fidelity's passkey help says a second strong login option may get you in if you lose your passkey device. The same idea protects you here: add a passkey or app approval too.

If Fidelity rejects your code

Fidelity's troubleshooting covers texted codes, not authenticator codes (Fidelity). Check the iPhone's clock: Settings > General > Date & Time > Set Automatically. Novaz warns you when it's 15 seconds or more off. Other causes are in Authenticator code not working?

Changing phones

Fidelity says to connect your authenticator on the new phone before you give up the old one (Fidelity). If you have a Novaz iCloud backup or backup file, restore it on the new iPhone and your Fidelity codes keep working. Without one, while you can still log in with the old phone, connect Fidelity again from your security settings using the new iPhone. Fidelity doesn't say whether that replaces the old connection or adds a second, so check your settings afterward. Then open Fidelity in Novaz on the old phone and tap Remove account. See How to transfer your authenticator app to a new iPhone.

If you lose your authenticator

Try a passkey or app approval if you set one up. Otherwise, Fidelity's answer is short: "Give us a call, we'll get you back into your account." (Fidelity). Its contact page lists 800-343-3548 for any customer service question, 24/7, and 800-835-5095 for workplace accounts, weekdays 8:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. ET (Fidelity). Fidelity doesn't say what proof it asks for or how long it takes. More in Lost the phone with your authenticator app?

Turning it off

Remove the authenticator in your security settings first, and only then delete it from your phone (Fidelity). In Novaz, open Fidelity and tap Remove account.
