Finnair 2FA: how to set up an authenticator app for Finnair Plus

Novaz steps checked against version 1.0.5

Your Finnair Plus account is where your Avios, bookings and profile live, on Finnair.com and in the Finnair app. Finnair offers two kinds of two-factor authentication for it: a code sent by email, or a code from an authenticator app. Text messages used to be a third choice, but Finnair is retiring them, and members who still use them are asked to move to one of the other two (Finnair).
Two-factor authentication isn't required just to sign in. It is required if you want to link Finnair Plus to another Avios programme, such as The British Airways Club, and move Avios between them: Finnair won't link the accounts unless both have it on (Finnair).
This guide uses Authenticator App - Novaz on iPhone. Any authenticator app works the same way.
How we checked this guide: the Finnair steps come from Finnair's own Finnair Plus pages and FAQs on finnair.com, linked below, which we read on October 21, 2026. We haven't tested them on a Finnair Plus account, so a label may differ slightly. The Novaz steps are checked against the app, version 1.0.5.
Use the website, not the app
Finnair's pages don't agree on where you can do this. Its main two-factor page, dated June 22, 2026, says setup works only on the Finnair website and not in the Finnair app (Finnair). Its authenticator FAQ, with the same date, also describes a route in the app: the My account tab, then Settings (Finnair). Use Finnair.com in a computer browser: both pages accept it, and you can scan the QR code with your iPhone.
Turn on 2FA with an authenticator app
Finnair's help gives these steps (Finnair):
- Log in to your Finnair Plus account on Finnair.com.
- Open your profile settings and find the Two-factor authentication section.
- Choose the authenticator app as your method.
- Follow the steps on screen. The website's interface text for this step, which ships with Finnair's pages, asks you to scan a QR code with your app and then enter the code it makes.
- In Novaz, tap +, then Scan QR code, and point the camera at the code. If the QR code is on the same iPhone, take a screenshot, tap +, then Choose a photo. See scanning a QR code on the same iPhone.
- Type the current code from Novaz into Finnair to verify it.
Finnair's help articles don't mention a text key. That same interface text includes a Can't scan the QR code? option with a key you can copy. If you use it, tap + in Novaz, then Enter key manually, and paste the key as the Setup key. See What is a 2FA setup key?
Finnair says its authenticator codes change every 30 seconds (Finnair). It doesn't say how many digits they have, so scanning the QR code is the safer choice.
When Finnair asks for a code
Once it's on, Finnair asks for a code from your app every time you log in to Finnair Plus, after your password (Finnair). Its pages don't describe a way to remember a trusted device.
No backup codes
None of Finnair's two-factor pages mention backup or recovery codes. With Novaz, that matters: unless you turn on iCloud backup or export a backup file, its keys stay only on your iPhone. Your fallbacks on Finnair's side are switching to email while you can still sign in, and Finnair's customer care.
Switching from text messages or email
To change your method, log in on Finnair.com, open your profile settings and follow the instructions in the Two-factor authentication section. Finnair says you can also do this in the Settings section of the Finnair app (Finnair).
If you're moving off text messages, Finnair's FAQ says to turn off the text message method first, then turn on the app or email. Once text messages are off, that option disappears from your profile for good (Finnair). If you're weighing the two, see Authenticator app vs SMS.
If Finnair rejects your code
Finnair's advice for authenticator codes is to check that you're reading the right app and the right account in it, and to enter the newest code before its 30 seconds run out. If codes still don't work, it points you to customer care (Finnair).
If every code fails, check the iPhone's clock: Settings > General > Date & Time > Set Automatically. Novaz also warns you when the clock is 15 seconds or more off. More causes are in Authenticator code not working?
Changing phones
Finnair doesn't describe moving the authenticator to a new phone. While you can still sign in on the old phone, switch your method to email, then set up the authenticator app again with the new phone. If you have a Novaz iCloud backup or backup file, you can skip this and restore your accounts on the new iPhone instead. See How to transfer your authenticator app to a new iPhone.
If you lose your authenticator
Without the app, you can't finish the sign-in. Finnair's answer is to contact its customer care, which will check your identity and help you back into the account (Finnair). Its Finnair Plus help page sends sign-in problems to its chat service (Finnair). Finnair doesn't say what proof it asks for or how long this takes.
Finnair also suggests checking that you can reach your method before you travel or change devices. See Lost the phone with your authenticator app?
