GateHub 2FA: how to set up an authenticator app

Novaz steps checked against version 1.0.5

GateHub is a crypto wallet you use in the browser to hold, trade, exchange and send funds. On GateHub, an authenticator app isn't optional. Two-factor authentication (2FA) with time-based codes (TOTP) is mandatory for every user, and until you set it up you can't trade, exchange or withdraw (GateHub). Until then, GateHub texts a one-time code to the phone number from sign-up so you can sign in, and asks you to set up the app once you're in (GateHub). This guide uses Authenticator App - Novaz on iPhone, but any authenticator app works the same way.
How we checked this guide: the GateHub steps come from GateHub's own help center, linked below, which we read on October 24, 2026. The help center blocks automated visits, so we read the setup article in an archived copy on web.archive.org (it shows the same last-edit date as the live article, June 29, 2021) and the other articles through the help center's public article feed on support.gatehub.net. We haven't tested them on a GateHub account, so a label may differ slightly. The Novaz steps are checked against the app, version 1.0.5.
Turn on 2FA with an authenticator app
GateHub's setup article describes these steps (GateHub):
- Sign in to GateHub at gatehub.net.
- Click your profile icon in the upper-right corner and choose Security from the menu. GateHub calls this page Security settings.
- Click 2-Factor Authentication. GateHub shows a QR code and an Authentication Key.
- In Novaz, tap +, then Scan QR code, and point the camera at the code. If the QR code is on the same iPhone, take a screenshot and use Choose a photo instead. See scanning a QR code on the same iPhone.
- If you can't scan it, tap +, then Enter key manually. Type "GateHub" as the Service, your email as the Account if you like, and the Authentication Key as the Setup key. See What is a 2FA setup key?
- Write the Authentication Key down before you leave the page (more on that below).
- Type the 6-digit code from Novaz into the Verification code box and click Enable 2-factor authentication.
GateHub says its codes have 6 digits and change every 30 seconds (GateHub), and its key is 16 characters long (GateHub). That matches what Novaz uses when you type a key, so either route works.
Save the Authentication Key, not backup codes
GateHub's help doesn't mention backup or recovery codes for 2FA. Its backup is the Authentication Key itself. GateHub asks you to store it offline or on paper, so that if your phone breaks you can type the same key into an authenticator app on a new device (GateHub). The key isn't a sign-in code. You can't type it where GateHub asks for a 6-digit code.
This matters with Novaz too. Its keys stay on the iPhone unless you turn on iCloud backup (PRO) or export a backup file under Settings > Backup. If the phone is gone and you have no Novaz backup, or GateHub isn't in it, the paper copy of the key is what gets you back in.
Don't mix it up with the 32-character Recovery key you saved at sign-up. That one resets your login password and decrypts your account data, and GateHub can't regenerate it (GateHub). Keep both, separately.
GateHub also warns, in bold: "Do not delete your authentication app from your mobile device" once 2FA is on (GateHub).
If GateHub rejects your code
GateHub lists a few causes (GateHub):
- Two GateHub entries in your app. If you turned 2FA off and on again without deleting the old entry, you may be reading the wrong code. In Novaz, open the old one and tap Remove account.
- The clock. GateHub's time article asks you to check both the phone and the computer (GateHub). On iPhone: Settings > General > Date & Time > Set Automatically. Novaz also warns you when the iPhone's clock is 15 seconds or more off.
- The sign-in page. GateHub suggests a hard refresh of the page, then contacting support if the code still fails.
Be careful with retries. Five wrong passwords or codes pause sign-in for 15 minutes, five more pause it for an hour, and five more lock the account until support unlocks it (GateHub). More causes are in Authenticator code not working?
Changing phones
With the saved Authentication Key, add GateHub to Novaz on the new iPhone with Enter key manually. The new phone then makes the same codes as the old one. Without the key, sign in with the old phone, turn 2FA off and set it up again on the new phone. If you use iCloud backup or a Novaz backup file, you can skip both: restore your accounts on the new iPhone with Restore from iCloud or Import from file…. See How to transfer your authenticator app to a new iPhone.
If you lose your authenticator
First, use your saved Authentication Key to set up the app again. If you don't have it, GateHub's support has to turn 2FA off for you (GateHub):
- Open a support request and choose the issue 2-Factor Authentication and the category 2-FA disable.
- Use the subject "2FA disable", give your login email address and add a short description.
- Follow the instructions in GateHub's automated reply to prove who you are.
The proof is a single selfie that also shows your passport, national ID card or driver's license, plus the other details in GateHub's visual guide. You send it to support@gatehub.net or through a support ticket, and GateHub suggests encrypting it with GPG/PGP (GateHub). GateHub doesn't say how long a reset takes. Turning 2FA off
Go to Security > 2-Factor Authentication and click Disable 2-factor authentication (GateHub). It doesn't last: GateHub makes you turn it on again before you can use the wallet, and if you sign out in between, your next sign-in uses an SMS code. If you set it up again, remove the old GateHub entry from Novaz.
