Microworkers 2FA: how to set up an authenticator app
By the Novaz team · Updated October 29, 2026
Novaz steps checked against version 1.0.5
On this page
Microworkers is the crowdsourcing site where workers take small paid tasks and employers run campaigns, often from the same account. Two-factor authentication (2FA) is optional. Microworkers offers two methods, an authenticator app code and an email code, and you can turn on either one or both (Microworkers). This guide uses Authenticator App - Novaz on iPhone. Any authenticator app works the same way.
How we checked this guide: the Microworkers steps come from Microworkers' own blog post announcing 2FA, including its screenshots, plus its FAQ and terms, linked below, which we read on October 21, 2026. The post dates from May 2022, and we haven't tested the steps on a Microworkers account, so a label may differ slightly. The Novaz steps are checked against the app, version 1.0.5.
What's different about Microworkers
- One page, two switches. Both methods sit on your Account page, each with its own Change link.
- The post names Google Authenticator. The setup screen itself is more general: it asks for the 6-digit code from "the authenticator application" (Microworkers).
- No backup codes are documented. The email code is the only documented second way in, so read the section on keeping a fallback before you start.
Turn on 2FA with an authenticator app
Based on Microworkers' post and its screenshots (Microworkers):
- Sign in to Microworkers and open the Account tab in the top menu.
- Find the Two factor authentication section. It lists Authenticator app code and Email code, each marked Disabled until you turn it on.
- Next to Authenticator app code, click Change. A page called Setup Two Factor Authenticator opens.
- Under 1. Scan with Google Authenticator App, Microworkers shows a QR code. In Novaz, tap +, then Scan QR code, and point the camera at it. If you're on the same iPhone, take a screenshot, then tap + and Choose a photo. See scanning a QR code on the same iPhone.
- Under 2. Enter the verification code, type the 6-digit code Novaz shows and click Enable.
Back on the Account page, Authenticator app code should now read Enabled.
The screenshots show only the QR code, with no text key to type. If your setup page does show one, you can tap +, then Enter key manually in Novaz and paste it as the Setup key (see What is a 2FA setup key?). Otherwise, scanning is the way in, which is easiest when you set this up on a computer and scan from your iPhone.
Keep a second way in
Microworkers' pages don't mention backup or recovery codes. Without a Novaz iCloud backup or backup file, its keys exist only on your iPhone, so a lost phone means no code.
The documented fallback is the email code. If you turn on Email code as well, the sign-in screen in Microworkers' screenshot offers Switch authentication method, with Google and Email as the choices (Microworkers). That lets you sign in with an emailed code if your phone isn't with you. The trade-off is that anyone who gets into your email could use that route too, so protect the mailbox with its own 2FA.
When Microworkers asks for a code
The post says 2FA adds a step after your password when you sign in. On the sign-in check, a box labeled I'm on a trusted computer stops the code prompt on that computer in future. Microworkers describes the box with the email code, and doesn't say whether it also skips the authenticator step. Leave it unticked on shared or public computers.
If Microworkers rejects your code
Microworkers doesn't publish troubleshooting for authenticator codes. The usual cause is the iPhone's clock. Open Settings > General > Date & Time and turn on Set Automatically. Novaz also warns you when the clock is 15 seconds or more off. More causes are in Authenticator code not working?
Changing phones
Microworkers doesn't describe moving the authenticator to a new phone. The safe order: while you can still sign in, click Change next to Authenticator app code and turn it off, then set it up again and scan the new QR code with your new iPhone. If you have a Novaz iCloud backup or backup file, you can restore your accounts on the new iPhone instead; without one, this has to be done for each account. See How to transfer your authenticator app to a new iPhone.
If you lose your authenticator
If you turned on Email code too, switch to Email on the sign-in screen and use the code Microworkers sends you. Then go to the Account page and set the authenticator up again on your new phone.
Without that, you need Microworkers support. The 2FA post asks anyone with problems to send a message through its contact link (Microworkers). When we read it, that Contact Us page listed only the company's postal address, Weblabcenter, Inc. in Frisco, Texas (Microworkers). The FAQ describes support tickets sent from inside your account, which you can't reach while locked out (Microworkers). Microworkers doesn't say what proof it asks for or how long a reset takes. If you think someone else has got into the account, its terms ask you to tell Microworkers right away (Microworkers). More in Lost the phone with your authenticator app?
Turning 2FA off
Click Change next to the method on the Account page to switch it back off (Microworkers). Once Microworkers no longer asks for the code, open the entry in Novaz and tap Remove account.
