The Migros Account is the single login behind Cumulus, the Migros app, your receipts, subscriptions and personal data, and it's also what cooperative members use for e-voting. Migros offers two second factors on top of your password: a 6-digit code by text message, or a 6-digit code from an authenticator app of your choice (Migros). It also offers passkeys, which it recommends over passwords. This guide covers the authenticator app, using Authenticator App - Novaz on iPhone. Any authenticator app works the same way.

How we checked this guide: the Migros steps come from Migros's own help pages, linked below, which we read on October 21, 2026. Migros's account help page builds its text with JavaScript, so we read its answers from the question-and-answer data published in the page itself, in English and German. Migros's corporate site blocks automated access, so we read its pages in archived copies on web.archive.org; the setup walkthrough is from a copy saved June 2, 2023. We haven't tested any of this on a Migros account, so a label may differ slightly. The Novaz steps are checked against the app, version 1.0.5.

Where Migros asks you to set it up

Migros doesn't publish step-by-step instructions with screen labels. Its pages describe three places:

  • Digital blue Cumulus vouchers. Migros added two-factor authentication to protect the blue Cumulus vouchers in the Migros app (Migros). Its walkthrough says that when you try to view and activate blue vouchers in the app, you're told to unlock them first, and a prompt to set up a second factor appears on its own. There you can enter your mobile number or, further down, choose an authenticator app instead (Migros, archived). Migros notes the app keeps changing, so screens may differ.
  • E-voting. Migros says its online cooperative ballots use two-factor authentication (Migros, archived).
  • Security settings. Migros's help sends you to the security area of your Migros Account, account.migros.ch/profile/security, to change your password and add passkeys (Migros). It doesn't say whether you can add an authenticator app there as well.

Add Migros to Novaz

Once Migros offers the authenticator app option:

  1. Choose the authenticator app option rather than the mobile number.
  2. If Migros shows a QR code, open Novaz, tap +, then Scan QR code, and point the camera at it. If you're setting up in the Migros app on the same iPhone, take a screenshot and use Choose a photo instead. See scanning a QR code on the same iPhone.
  3. If Migros gives you a key to type, tap +, then Enter key manually, and paste it as the Setup key. Migros's pages don't say whether a key is offered or how often its codes change, so scan the QR code when you can: it carries the code settings. See What is a 2FA setup key?
  4. Type the 6-digit code from Novaz into the field Migros shows. Migros says the code works even when you have no network reception.

Turn on SMS as well

Migros's own advice is to activate more than one factor so you have a choice when you sign in (Migros). That matters with Novaz too: without iCloud backup or a backup file, its keys exist only on your iPhone. Migros's pages don't mention backup or recovery codes, so a second factor such as SMS, or a passkey, is the main way to get in if the app is gone. More on the trade-offs in Authenticator app vs. SMS.

How often Migros asks for a code

Not on every visit. After you sign in with your second factor, Migros keeps you signed in for a long time, even if you close the browser or restart the device. It asks again when you sign out and back in, when you use a different device or browser, and before security-sensitive actions such as changing settings, editing your personal details, or unlocking and redeeming blue Cumulus vouchers (Migros).

If Migros rejects your code

Migros's only troubleshooting advice for the app is to make sure it's up to date. Beyond that, check your iPhone's clock: Settings > General > Date & Time > Set Automatically. Novaz also warns you when the clock is 15 seconds or more off. Other causes are in Authenticator code not working?

One oddity: the English version of Migros's troubleshooting entry refers to the "Migros Access app", while the German version speaks of your own authenticator app. Migros doesn't explain this further, so follow whichever app you actually set up.

If you lose your phone or delete the app

Migros says that if you delete your authenticator app or lose your phone, you should call the Infoline; the number is in the phone section of its help and contact page (Migros). It doesn't say what proof it asks for or how long a reset takes. For a lost SMS number it also wants a call: typing a new number into your profile isn't enough.

Migros doesn't describe a way to move the authenticator to a new phone yourself. If you're changing iPhones, keep the old one and your SMS factor working until Migros is set up on the new one. If you have a Novaz iCloud backup or backup file, you can restore the account on the new iPhone instead; see How to transfer your authenticator app to a new iPhone and Lost the phone with your authenticator app?
