Outbrain 2FA: how to set up an authenticator app

Outbrain is the advertising platform that places sponsored links and ads on news and publisher sites, and advertisers run their campaigns from its dashboard, which Outbrain's help calls Amplify. The company is now part of Teads, and its advertiser business goes by Outbrain Direct Response (Outbrain). The sign-in page at my.outbrain.com carries the Teads logo, so don't be surprised by the name there (Outbrain).
Two-factor authentication (2FA) is not optional here. Outbrain requires it for every user who logs in to the dashboard, and you choose between two methods: a code sent by email, or a code from an authenticator app, which is the one Outbrain recommends (Outbrain). This guide sets up the app route with Authenticator App - Novaz on iPhone. Any authenticator app works the same way, even though Outbrain's help only names Google Authenticator and Duo Mobile.
How we checked this guide: the Outbrain steps come from Outbrain's own help article and its public sign-in page, both linked below, which we read on October 21, 2026. The help article was last updated in February 2022, and we haven't tested the steps on an Outbrain account, so a label may differ slightly. The Novaz steps are checked against the app, version 1.0.5.
Turn on 2FA with an authenticator app
There's no switch to look for before your first login. If two-factor authentication isn't set up yet, Outbrain asks you to pick a method when you log in (Outbrain):
- Log in to your Outbrain account with your email address and password.
- When Outbrain asks for your preferred method, choose Authenticator app rather than Email verification.
- Outbrain shows a QR code to connect your app. In Novaz, tap +, then Scan QR code, and point the camera at the screen. If the QR code is on the same iPhone, take a screenshot and use Choose a photo instead. See scanning a QR code on the same iPhone.
- Type the code Novaz shows into the box on the Outbrain screen and click Done.
- A second box appears to confirm that your authenticator app is connected.
Outbrain's article doesn't mention a text key you could type instead of scanning, and it doesn't say how many digits its app codes have. Scan the QR code so Novaz picks up the right settings.
Already set up with email codes? Outbrain says you can change your preferred method later in your User Settings (Outbrain). Its help doesn't walk through that screen.
How often Outbrain asks for a code
You enter a code each time you log in, but a login lasts up to 7 days in the same browser. Check Trust this device on the code screen to stretch that to a month (Outbrain). The live sign-in page heads this step Two-factor authentication required and asks for the code from your authenticator app in the Verification code field (Outbrain).
No backup codes
Outbrain's help doesn't mention backup or recovery codes. The sign-in page includes links labeled Use authentication app and Authenticate via email, but the help article doesn't say whether someone who chose the app can fall back to an email code at sign-in (Outbrain). Don't count on it. Keep access to the email address on your account, and know how to reach support before you need it.
If Outbrain rejects your code
Outbrain's own tips for the app are to check your internet connection and to make sure the app's time is in sync. Its time-sync steps are for Google Authenticator (Outbrain). With Novaz, the time comes from your iPhone: open Settings > General > Date & Time and turn on Set Automatically. Novaz also warns you when the clock is 15 seconds or more off. If the problem only happens with Outbrain, the article says to contact support. More causes are in Authenticator code not working?
Changing phones
If you use Novaz's iCloud backup or keep a backup file, you can restore your accounts on the new iPhone and the Outbrain codes keep working. Without a backup, Novaz's keys stay on the old phone, so before you give it up, sign in while it still works and use User Settings to change your method, which Outbrain says is where adjustments happen. Then connect the new phone. Outbrain doesn't describe the exact steps. See How to transfer your authenticator app to a new iPhone.
If you lose your authenticator
Outbrain doesn't document a recovery process for a lost authenticator app. Its help article points to its contact page for support, and the sign-in page lists support@teads.com for further help (Outbrain). Outbrain doesn't say what proof it asks for or how long a reset takes. Writing from the email address on your account is the sensible start. More in Lost the phone with your authenticator app?
You can't turn two-factor authentication off, because Outbrain requires it for everyone. The only choice you have is the method.
