Refersion 2FA: how to set up an authenticator app
By the Novaz team · Updated October 29, 2026
Novaz steps checked against version 1.0.5
On this page
Refersion is an affiliate and influencer marketing platform. Brands use its merchant dashboard to track and pay affiliates. Two-factor authentication (2FA) on a merchant account works with any authenticator app, and Refersion can also text a code as a backup in some countries (Refersion). It doesn't ask for a code at every sign-in, and its backup codes behave in an unusual way, so read the section on them before you need one. This guide uses Authenticator App - Novaz on iPhone, but any authenticator app works the same way.
How we checked this guide: the Refersion steps come from Refersion's own help center, linked below, which we read on October 21, 2026. We haven't tested them on a Refersion account, so a label may differ slightly. The Novaz steps are checked against the app, version 1.0.5.
Do you need it?
It's optional for signing in. It matters most if you pay affiliates through Refersion:
- Large payouts: if you send $1,000 or more to affiliates within 24 hours through PayPal Payouts or Trolley, Refersion asks you to confirm with a 2FA code (Refersion).
- Unified Payments: the FAQ lists turning on 2FA as the first step of signing up (Refersion). The getting-started page calls it a strong recommendation rather than a hard rule (Refersion). Either way, set it up before you enroll.
The setup article covers merchant accounts only.
Turn on 2FA with an authenticator app
Refersion's help article describes these steps (Refersion):
- In your dashboard, open the menu under your profile name and choose My Profile.
- In the left menu, go to Two-Factor Authentication and click Enable Two-Factor Authentication.
- Type your account password in the window that opens.
- Refersion shows a QR code. In Novaz, tap +, then Scan QR code, and point the camera at the screen. If the dashboard is open on the same iPhone, take a screenshot and use Choose a photo instead. See scanning a QR code on the same iPhone.
- If you can't scan, Refersion also offers a secret key. In Novaz, tap +, then Enter key manually, put "Refersion" in Service, and paste or type the key as the Setup key. See What is a 2FA setup key?
- Type the 6-digit code Novaz shows into the box. Each code lasts 30 seconds, so if one is about to run out, wait for the next.
- Refersion then shows 10 backup codes and saves a copy to your computer as a text file.
In the same window you can add a mobile number for SMS codes. Choose your country, type the rest of the number, click Next, then enter the code Refersion texts you and click Confirm. SMS is only offered in some countries.
Backup codes turn 2FA off
Refersion's backup codes are single-use and meant as a last resort. The catch: signing in with one deactivates 2FA on your account, so you have to set it up again afterward (Refersion). If you ever use one, go straight back to My Profile and turn 2FA on again.
Keep the downloaded text file somewhere safe and away from your phone, and delete stray copies from your Downloads folder. If that phone is gone and you have no Novaz backup (iCloud backup or a backup file), these codes and the SMS option are your fallback. If you lose the codes, you can make a new set from your profile. More in 2FA backup codes.
When Refersion asks for a code
After your email and password, Refersion asks for a code once every 30 days, not at every sign-in. It also asks when payouts reach $1,000 or more within 24 hours (Refersion).
If Refersion rejects your code
Refersion's only tip is that each code is valid for 30 seconds. If a fresh code still fails, check your iPhone's clock: Settings > General > Date & Time > Set Automatically. Novaz warns you when the clock is 15 seconds or more off. Other causes are in Authenticator code not working?
Changing phones
Refersion's help doesn't describe moving 2FA to a new phone. What it does document is turning 2FA off in My Profile and turning it on again, so do that while you still have the old phone. Or, with a Novaz iCloud backup or backup file, restore your accounts on the new iPhone and leave 2FA as it is. See How to transfer your authenticator app to a new iPhone.
If you lose your authenticator
Try these in order (Refersion):
- An SMS code, if you added a phone number.
- A backup code. Remember it turns 2FA off, so set it up again once you're in.
- Refersion's troubleshooting steps: first reset your password with Forgot Password on the sign-in page. If that doesn't get you in, ask the Refersion team to disable 2FA. They email the address on your account and ask for details that prove who you are, then turn 2FA off once that's confirmed.
Contact Refersion through the in-app Support Chat or at helpme@refersion.com. The help article doesn't list the exact proof it asks for or how long the check takes. More in Lost the phone with your authenticator app?
Turning 2FA off
Go to My Profile again. Refersion asks for your password and one code: from your authenticator app, by SMS, or a backup code (Refersion). Afterward, open Refersion in Novaz and tap Remove account.
