SocketLabs 2FA: how to set up an authenticator app
By the Novaz team · Updated October 29, 2026
Novaz steps checked against version 1.0.5
On this page
SocketLabs is an email delivery service, and its Control Panel is where you manage sending servers, API keys, SMTP credentials and reports. Two-step verification isn't optional there. SocketLabs calls it "required on all user accounts," and each user sets it up for their own login (SocketLabs). You can get codes by text message, by email or from an authenticator app. This guide uses Authenticator App - Novaz on iPhone for the app option, but any authenticator app works the same way.
How we checked this guide: the SocketLabs steps come from SocketLabs's own help center, linked below, which we read on October 21, 2026. We haven't tested them on a SocketLabs account, so a label may differ slightly. The Novaz steps are checked against the app, version 1.0.5.
The one thing to know first
SocketLabs Support can't help if your authenticator stops working. The help center says an account admin has to change the two-step setting for the affected user, who is then asked to set it up again at the next login (SocketLabs). If you're the only admin on the account, nobody else can do that for you. SocketLabs separately recommends having at least two users who can edit user permissions (SocketLabs).
Turn on 2FA with an authenticator app
SocketLabs's help center describes these steps (SocketLabs):
- Log in to the SocketLabs Control Panel.
- Click your name in the upper right corner.
- Choose My Profile from the menu.
- Scroll to the User Security section and click Enable Two-Step Verification.
- A setup wizard opens and walks you through the rest. Pick the authenticator app when it asks how you want to get codes.
The help page doesn't show the wizard screens, so it doesn't say whether SocketLabs also offers a text key or what it calls one. It refers to the app option as Google Authenticator. For the Novaz side:
- Scan the QR code: in Novaz, tap +, then Scan QR code, and point the camera at the code. If the code is on the same iPhone, take a screenshot, tap +, then Choose a photo. See scanning a QR code on the same iPhone.
- Type a key, if the wizard shows one: tap +, then Enter key manually, fill in Service and Account, and paste the key into Setup key. See What is a 2FA setup key?
SocketLabs doesn't publish its code length or interval. A QR code carries those settings, so scanning is the safer choice. Then type the code from Novaz into the wizard to finish.
An older SocketLabs blog post from 2015 put the button under Security and Advanced Security Settings instead (SocketLabs). The current help article names My Profile.
Backup codes and a backup phone
Setup gives you a set of printable backup codes, and each one works once. SocketLabs suggests keeping the list somewhere secure and crossing off each code as you use it. If you use your last code, don't log out until you've gone to the Security page and chosen Regenerate backup codes (SocketLabs).
You can also add a backup phone number for text-message codes, either during setup or later with Add a backup phone number on the Security page. It opens from the menu under your name (SocketLabs).
Novaz's keys stay on your iPhone unless you turn on iCloud backup or export a backup file. Without one, your backup codes, and a backup phone if you add one, are your way back in. See 2FA backup codes and Authenticator app vs. SMS.
When SocketLabs asks for a code
Every time you log in to the Control Panel (SocketLabs). The help center doesn't mention a way to remember a trusted browser.
If SocketLabs rejects your code
SocketLabs's help doesn't cover rejected codes. The usual cause is the iPhone's clock: open Settings > General > Date & Time and turn on Set Automatically. Novaz warns you when the clock is 15 seconds or more off. More causes are in Authenticator code not working?
Changing phones or methods
To move from text messages to an authenticator app, or the other way, SocketLabs says to Remove your current setup and click Enable Two-Step Verification again. It also says the authenticator has to be set up again on each new device (SocketLabs). Do this while the old phone still works. If you use Novaz's iCloud backup or a backup file, restoring your accounts on the new iPhone brings the same key across, so the codes keep working. See How to transfer your authenticator app to a new iPhone.
If you lose your authenticator
- On the code screen, click Having trouble? and choose Let me enter one of my backup codes.
- If you added a backup phone, click Having trouble? and choose the option to send a code to your backup phone number.
- If neither works, ask an account admin to adjust your two-step setting. You'll then be asked to set it up again at login (SocketLabs).
SocketLabs Support can't do step 3 for you. The help center doesn't describe what happens if the only admin is locked out. More in Lost the phone with your authenticator app?
Turning 2FA off
You can't. Two-step verification is now required on every user, and the help center only describes removing a setup to switch to another method.
