Your Technic Platform account on technicpack.net is the one you use to publish, follow and comment on Minecraft modpacks. Technic has offered two-factor authentication (2FA) with an authenticator app since July 2016, and it's optional (Technic, archived). The catch is the paperwork: Technic has no help article about it. What follows is pieced together from the platform's changelog and its 2FA removal page. This guide uses Authenticator App - Novaz on iPhone, but any authenticator app works the same way.

How we checked this guide: the Technic details come from Technic's own website, linked below. The site turned away our automated reader, so on October 21, 2026 we read its pages as archived copies on web.archive.org; the newest copy of the 2FA removal page was saved on October 17, 2026, and the changelog on May 3, 2026. Technic's pages don't describe the setup screen, so we can't give its exact labels, and we haven't tested anything on a Technic account. The Novaz steps are checked against the app, version 1.0.5.

What Technic's own pages confirm

  • The setting is in your profile. The 2016 changelog entry that announced 2FA says to turn it on from your Edit My Profile area (Technic, archived).
  • It works with third-party apps. A 2024 changelog entry says the 2FA setup page was updated to name current authenticator apps.
  • The page still exists. In September 2025 Technic reworked the account edit page and tidied up the 2FA settings page.
  • There's a recovery code, and it's your only documented way back in without the app (more below).

Technic's old Zendesk help center at support.technicpack.net is gone. A staff statement from 2024 explains that the account and its data were deleted after a billing problem (Technic, archived). If you find older guides that link there, they won't open.

Turn on 2FA with an authenticator app

  1. Sign in at technicpack.net and open your profile's edit area. The 2016 changelog calls it Edit My Profile; newer entries call it the account edit page, so the label may differ.
  2. Open the 2FA settings page there.
  3. If Technic shows a QR code, open Novaz, tap +, then Scan QR code, and point the camera at it. On the same iPhone, take a screenshot and use Choose a photo instead. See scanning a QR code on the same iPhone.
  4. If you can only copy a text key, tap +, then Enter key manually, and fill in Service (for example, Technic), Account if you like, and Setup key. See What is a 2FA setup key? Technic doesn't say how long its codes are or how often they change, so the QR code is the safer choice if you get one.
  5. Finish any step that asks for a code from Novaz.
  6. Save the recovery code, if the page shows you one, somewhere other than your phone.

Keep the recovery code safe

Technic's Emergency 2FA Removal page is built for people who lost their authenticator or wiped their phone. It asks for three things: your Email Address, your current Password and your Recovery Code. Fill them in and choose Disable Two-Factor Authentication, and 2FA is switched off (Technic, archived). The page speaks of a single recovery code, and Technic doesn't say when it's shown to you or whether you can get a new one.

Unless you've backed up Novaz with iCloud backup or a backup file, its keys exist only on your iPhone, so the recovery code is your way back in. Store it in a password manager or on paper. More in 2FA backup codes.

If Technic rejects your code

Technic gives no advice about rejected codes. The usual cause is the phone's clock: open Settings > General > Date & Time and turn on Set Automatically. Novaz also warns you when your clock is 15 seconds or more off. Other causes are in Authenticator code not working?

Changing phones

Technic doesn't document moving 2FA to a new phone. Its removal page does hint at the intended order, though: turn 2FA off before you wipe or replace the old phone. So, while you can still sign in, switch 2FA off in your profile settings, then turn it on again and scan the new code with the new iPhone. If you have a Novaz iCloud backup or backup file, you can restore your accounts on the new iPhone instead and keep the same codes. See How to transfer your authenticator app to a new iPhone.

If you lose your authenticator

  1. Go to the Emergency 2FA Removal page at technicpack.net/tfa/remove and use your recovery code, email address and password.
  2. Without the recovery code, Technic has no documented self-service route. Its help page sends account problems to the Technic Discord server or the forums (Technic, archived), and the contact page lists contact@technicpack.net (Technic, archived). Technic doesn't say what proof it asks for or how long it takes.
