UptimeRobot 2FA: how to set up an authenticator app

Novaz steps checked against version 1.0.5

UptimeRobot watches your websites, servers and cron jobs and alerts you when they go down. Anyone who gets into the account can pause monitors, change who gets alerts, or edit your status pages, so a stolen password could mean an outage you never hear about. Two-factor authentication (2FA) is optional. UptimeRobot recommends it, and the only method its help center describes is a code from an authenticator app (UptimeRobot). This guide uses Authenticator App - Novaz on iPhone. Any other authenticator app follows the same steps.
How we checked this guide: the UptimeRobot steps come from UptimeRobot's own help center article, its screenshot, and the company's blog and contact page, linked below, which we read on October 21, 2026. We haven't tested them on an UptimeRobot account, so a label may differ slightly. The Novaz steps are checked against the app, version 1.0.5.
Before you start: backups and team accounts
Two things are worth knowing up front.
- No backup codes are documented. UptimeRobot's help doesn't mention recovery codes or a second method such as text messages. As far as its pages say, the authenticator app is the only way in once 2FA is on. With Novaz that matters more than usual: unless you turn on iCloud backup or export a backup file, its keys exist only on your iPhone.
- Sub-users set it up on their own login. If someone added you to their team as a sub-user, 2FA belongs to your own UptimeRobot login, not to the team. UptimeRobot says you can only set up, verify or turn off 2FA for your own login, so if you've switched into the main account's dashboard, switch back to your own first (UptimeRobot). Team switching is done from the bottom-left corner of the dashboard (UptimeRobot).
Turn on 2FA with an authenticator app
The setting isn't in a top menu. UptimeRobot's help center describes these steps (UptimeRobot):
- Log in to your UptimeRobot dashboard in a web browser.
- Click the three dots (...) in the lower-left corner to open the main navigation menu.
- Choose Security. The page has a Two-factor authentication box next to Change password.
- Click Set up 2FA. UptimeRobot shows a QR code.
- In Novaz, tap +, then Scan QR code, and point the camera at the screen. If you're looking at the dashboard on the same iPhone, take a screenshot and use Choose a photo instead. See scanning a QR code on the same iPhone.
- Type the code Novaz shows into the field on the UptimeRobot page and click Verify.
UptimeRobot's help only mentions the QR code. It doesn't say whether a text key is offered for typing by hand. If you do see one, in Novaz tap +, then Enter key manually, and paste it as the Setup key. See What is a 2FA setup key? Scanning is still the safer choice, because the QR code carries the code settings to the app.
When UptimeRobot asks for a code
After setup, UptimeRobot asks for a code from your app every time you log in, on top of your password (UptimeRobot). Its original 2FA announcement said the company was working on asking for codes for other actions too (UptimeRobot). The current help page only mentions log-in, and it doesn't describe a "remember this device" option.
If UptimeRobot rejects your code
UptimeRobot's help doesn't cover rejected codes. The most common cause is a phone clock that has drifted. On your iPhone, open Settings > General > Date & Time and turn on Set Automatically. Novaz also warns you when the clock is 15 seconds or more off. For other causes, see Authenticator code not working?
Changing phones
UptimeRobot doesn't describe moving 2FA to a new phone. Its help does say you can turn 2FA off and set it up again whenever you need to. So while you still have the old iPhone, sign in, turn 2FA off on the Security page, and set it up again by scanning the new QR code with the new phone. With a Novaz iCloud backup or backup file, you can restore your accounts on the new iPhone instead; without one, this re-setup is the only route. See How to transfer your authenticator app to a new iPhone.
If you lose your authenticator
UptimeRobot's help center doesn't describe a recovery process for a lost authenticator, and since it documents no backup codes, you can't count on a self-service way back in. The general support address on UptimeRobot's contact page is support@uptimerobot.com. UptimeRobot asks you to write from your account's email address and says it replies on business days (UptimeRobot). Its pages don't say what proof it asks for before turning 2FA off for you, or how long that takes.
Because of that, keep the email account tied to UptimeRobot secure, and don't give up or wipe your old iPhone until 2FA is set up somewhere else. More in Lost the phone with your authenticator app?
Turning 2FA off
UptimeRobot says you can turn 2FA off whenever you need to and turn it back on later, from the same Security page (UptimeRobot). Its help doesn't name the button or say whether you need a code to do it. Once it's off, remove the old entry in Novaz: open it and tap Remove account.
