US Mobile is a prepaid phone carrier, and your US Mobile account is where you manage your lines, plans, eSIMs and payments. US Mobile's blog counts SIM swaps and port-outs among the changes it wants to keep strangers from making (US Mobile, archived). Two-factor authentication (2FA) is optional. US Mobile's current help article lists two methods, text message (SMS) and an authenticator app, and you can add one of each (US Mobile, archived). This guide uses Authenticator App - Novaz on iPhone, but any authenticator app works the same way.

How we checked this guide: the US Mobile steps come from US Mobile's own help center and blog, linked below, which we read on October 21, 2026. US Mobile's website blocks automated readers, so we read archived copies saved on web.archive.org. The newest copy of the 2FA article was saved on November 4, 2025, and shows it was last edited on August 23, 2025. We haven't tested the steps on a US Mobile account, so a label may differ slightly. The Novaz steps are checked against the app, version 1.0.5.

Before you start: verify your email

US Mobile only offers 2FA after you've verified your account (US Mobile, archived). To verify, sign in, open Settings, choose Resend Verification Email, then click VERIFY MY EMAIL in the message US Mobile sends you (US Mobile, archived).

Turn on 2FA with an authenticator app

The website shows a QR code, so it's the easiest route if you have a computer (US Mobile, archived):

  1. Sign in to your US Mobile dashboard and go to Settings.
  2. Click Set up 2FA.
  3. Pick Authenticator App as the method.
  4. In Novaz, tap +, then Scan QR code, and point the camera at the QR code on your screen.
  5. Click Continue, type the code Novaz shows, and continue again.
  6. When the code is right, US Mobile shows a confirmation.

From then on, signing in takes your password plus a one-time code, as US Mobile's 2022 blog post announcing 2FA explains (US Mobile, archived). Its help center doesn't say whether you can skip the code on a trusted device.

In the US Mobile app, the setting is under Account > Security. Under Two-Factor Authentication, tap the prompt to set up your primary method and choose Authenticator App. If Novaz is on the same iPhone, the article says to tap the copy icon next to the manual code. Then, in Novaz, tap +, then Enter key manually, type a name such as US Mobile under Service, and paste the code into Setup key. See What is a 2FA setup key?

US Mobile's help doesn't say how long its codes are or how often they change. A scanned QR code passes those settings to Novaz, while a key you type in always gets 6-digit codes every 30 seconds. If Novaz won't accept the copied key, or US Mobile keeps rejecting the codes it makes, set it up from the website and scan the QR code instead.

A March 2025 version of the article also offered email (US Mobile, archived); the August 2025 version doesn't.

Add a second method

US Mobile's help doesn't mention backup or recovery codes. What it offers instead is a secondary method: after the first one is set up, press Add a Secondary Method and go through the steps again (US Mobile, archived).

That second method is your fallback if you lose the iPhone with Novaz and have no Novaz backup (iCloud backup or a backup file). If the SMS number is a US Mobile line in the same phone as Novaz, losing that phone takes both methods with it, so a number on another device is a better backup. Authenticator app vs. SMS explains the trade-offs.

Set up security questions too

Once 2FA is on, US Mobile lets you choose three security questions under Settings > Security Information > Security Questions > Set It Up. You never type the answers into a form. Product Support asks them in chat or on the phone to check that you're the account owner (US Mobile, archived). You can't see or change them later without contacting support, so note your answers somewhere safe.

If US Mobile rejects your code

US Mobile's help doesn't cover rejected authenticator codes. Check your iPhone's clock first: Settings > General > Date & Time > Set Automatically. Novaz warns you when the clock is 15 seconds or more off. More causes are in Authenticator code not working?

If you lose your authenticator

Sign in with your secondary method if you set one up, then set up the authenticator again on your new phone. If you have a Novaz iCloud backup or backup file, you can restore US Mobile on the new iPhone instead. Without one, a new phone means adding US Mobile again. See How to transfer your authenticator app to a new iPhone.

With no second method, contact US Mobile. Its help doesn't describe a 2FA reset. Its sign-in troubleshooting article points you to chat, to 611 from a US Mobile phone, or to 1-878-205-0088 (US Mobile, archived). Expect to answer your security questions if you set them up. US Mobile doesn't say what other proof it accepts or how long a reset takes. More in Lost the phone with your authenticator app?

US Mobile's help doesn't explain how to turn 2FA off or swap methods.
