sipgate is a German provider of cloud phone systems, and your sipgate login is how you reach the web app where calls, numbers, devices and users are managed. Each person in a company has their own user account, and two-factor authentication (2FA) is set up per user, not once for the whole company. sipgate supports one kind of 2FA: a code from an authenticator app. Its help center says plainly that it doesn't offer confirmation by text message, because SMS delivery isn't secure and depends on mobile reception (sipgate).

2FA is optional, but sipgate strongly recommends it. Its help explains why: people break into phone accounts with leaked passwords and then run up bills by calling expensive foreign numbers (sipgate). This guide uses Authenticator App - Novaz on iPhone. Any authenticator app works the same way.

How we checked this guide: the sipgate steps come from sipgate's own help center, linked below, which we read on October 21, 2026. The help center is in German, so the labels below are sipgate's German ones, and its 2FA screenshots date from 2022. We haven't tested the steps on a sipgate account, so a label may differ slightly. The Novaz steps are checked against the app, version 1.0.5.

Email codes and the authenticator app

Without 2FA, sipgate already sends a verification code by email when you sign in from a browser it doesn't know. You can choose to trust that browser and device, and then later sign-ins there skip the email code (sipgate).

sipgate describes the authenticator app as a security alternative to the email code and to signing in with Google. With it on, you enter a code from the app after your email address and password at every sign-in (sipgate). The pages don't say how 2FA works with Google sign-in or with a company single sign-on (SSO) login.

Turn on 2FA with an authenticator app

sipgate's 2FA article describes these steps (sipgate):

  1. Sign in to your sipgate account at login.sipgate.com, on a computer if you can.
  2. In the navigation on the left, open User-Einstellungen (user settings).
  3. Click the gear icon next to Zwei-Faktor-Authentifizierung.
  4. sipgate shows a QR code. In Novaz, tap +, then Scan QR code, and point the camera at it. If the QR code is on the same iPhone, take a screenshot, tap +, then Choose a photo. See scanning a QR code on the same iPhone.
  5. If you can't scan it, sipgate can show you a key to type in instead. The article doesn't name the button for this. In Novaz, tap +, then Enter key manually, fill in Service (for example, sipgate) and type the key as the Setup key. See What is a 2FA setup key?
  6. Type the code that Novaz shows into the page on your computer, and give the device a name, such as "My iPhone".
  7. Click Aktivierung abschließen (complete activation).

sipgate's help describes 6-digit codes but doesn't say how often they change. Scanning the QR code is the safer choice, because it carries the code settings. A key typed by hand in Novaz always makes codes every 30 seconds.

Signing in afterwards

Enter your email address and password as usual. sipgate then asks for the 6-digit code: open Novaz and type the current code for sipgate (sipgate).

If sipgate rejects your code

Each code only works for a short time. sipgate's advice is simple: if you were too slow, type the new code that replaced it (sipgate).

If fresh codes keep failing, check your iPhone's clock: Settings > General > Date & Time > Set Automatically. Novaz warns you when the clock is 15 seconds or more off. More causes are in Authenticator code not working?

No backup codes

sipgate's help pages don't mention backup or recovery codes. That matters with Novaz, because its keys stay on your iPhone unless you turn on iCloud backup or export a backup file. If that iPhone is lost or reset with no Novaz backup, the only route back that sipgate documents is its customer service, below.

The pages also don't describe moving 2FA to a new phone or turning it off yourself, so keep your old iPhone until sipgate works on the new one. With Novaz's iCloud backup or a backup file, you can restore sipgate on the new iPhone along with your other accounts. See How to transfer your authenticator app to a new iPhone.

If you lose your authenticator

If you can't get a code because you no longer have the app, sipgate's customer service can turn off 2FA for your user temporarily. You then sign in with your password alone and can set up 2FA again. To ask, use sipgate's support request form, which the 2FA article links to (sipgate).

The 2FA article doesn't say what proof customer service asks for or how long it takes. If you've also lost access to the email address on the account, sipgate's login help says that changing it needs proof of identity, such as a trade registration, a commercial register entry, a recent invoice sent by post, or an ID card or passport (sipgate).
