Veem 2FA: how to set up an authenticator app

Novaz steps checked against version 1.0.5

Veem is a business payments service that companies and contractors use to send and receive payments, often linked to Xero or QuickBooks. Its two-factor authentication (2FA) has one method only. Veem's help says SMS codes are no longer supported and codes can't come by email, phone or chat either, so an authenticator app is the only way in (Veem). This guide uses Authenticator App - Novaz on iPhone, but any authenticator app works the same way.
How we checked this guide: the Veem steps come from Veem's own help center, linked below, which we read on October 22, 2026. We haven't tested them on a Veem account, so a label may differ slightly. The Novaz steps are checked against the app, version 1.0.5.
Before you start: who it affects
A few rules on Veem's side shape how 2FA works for you (Veem):
- Xero users must have it. Veem has required 2FA on every account connected to Xero since July 15, 2022, because Xero asks this of its integration partners.
- It's account-wide. Once 2FA is on, every user on the Veem account has it. Someone with access to settings has to turn it on for the others.
- Google or Intuit sign-in skips it. If you sign in with Google or Intuit (QuickBooks) credentials, Veem doesn't require its 2FA, and its security advice notes that single sign-on doesn't work with Veem 2FA (Veem). Your protection then comes from your Google or Intuit account.
Turn on 2FA with an authenticator app
Veem's setup article, last updated in March 2026, gives these steps (Veem):
- Sign in to your Veem account and select Settings.
- Open the Security tab and click Setup 2FA.
- Choose TOTP and press Next.
- Veem shows a QR code along with what its help calls a "numeric code", which is the setup key. In Novaz, tap +, then Scan QR code, and point the camera at the screen. If you're on the same iPhone, take a screenshot and use Choose a photo instead. See scanning a QR code on the same iPhone.
- If you can't scan, tap +, then Enter key manually in Novaz, type a name such as Veem under Service, and enter the code from the screen as the Setup key. See What is a 2FA setup key?
- Once Novaz shows a 6-digit code, click Next in Veem.
- Type the code. You can tick the box to trust the device for 30 days. Then click Confirm.
Veem says its codes change every 30 seconds, which matches what Novaz uses for a typed key. Scanning is still the easier route, since it avoids typos.
When Veem asks for a code
You'll enter a code when you sign in. If you ticked the trusted-device box, Veem remembers that device for 30 days and won't ask there in the meantime (Veem). Skip it on shared computers.
No backup codes in Veem's help
Veem's 2FA articles don't mention backup or recovery codes. The documented fallback for a lost app is Veem's Customer Success team (below). If you have no Novaz backup, the keys exist only on your iPhone, so keep your Veem account's email address current in case you need that help.
If Veem rejects your code
Veem's troubleshooting page suggests signing in again from a Google Chrome incognito window and trying a fresh code. If that fails, contact Customer Success (Veem).
Veem also points to the phone's clock as a common cause (Veem). On iPhone, go to Settings > General > Date & Time and turn on Set Automatically. Novaz warns you when the clock is 15 seconds or more off. More causes are in Authenticator code not working?
Too many failed attempts can lock the account. Veem sends an email when that happens, and Customer Success unlocks it.
Changing phones
While you still have the old phone, you can switch yourself: in Veem, go to Settings > Security tab, click Change 2FA, enter a code from your current app, and click Confirm. Then set up the new phone (Veem). If you have a Novaz iCloud backup or backup file, you can restore Veem on the new iPhone instead; without one, you'll add Veem again in Novaz on the new one. See How to transfer your authenticator app to a new iPhone.
If you lose your authenticator
Without the old app, the Change 2FA route isn't open to you. Veem's help says to contact its Customer Success team to reset 2FA, then set it up again on the new phone or app. The same applies if you've forgotten which authenticator app you used (Veem). You can reach the team by chat or phone from Veem's contact page. Veem doesn't say what proof of identity it asks for or how long a reset takes. See also Lost the phone with your authenticator app?
Turning 2FA off
Veem's help doesn't give steps for this. It only says you can't remove 2FA while Xero is connected, and that disabling becomes possible once you remove the Xero connection (Veem).
