WazirX is an Indian crypto exchange, and your WazirX account holds your INR and crypto balances. Two-factor authentication (2FA) is part of signing up: right after you verify your email, WazirX asks you to set up either an authenticator app, which it marks as recommended, or SMS codes sent to a 10-digit Indian mobile number (WazirX). If you picked SMS back then, you can switch to an app later from your account settings. WazirX's security tips say to prefer the app over SMS (WazirX).
This guide uses Authenticator App - Novaz on iPhone. Any authenticator app works the same way.
How we checked this guide: the WazirX steps come from WazirX's own help center, linked below, which we read on October 21, 2026, on the article pages and in the help center's public article feed. We haven't tested them on a WazirX account, so a label may differ slightly. The Novaz steps are checked against the app, version 1.0.5.
Switch to an authenticator app
WazirX's help describes these steps (WazirX):
- Go to Profile, then Account Settings.
- Select Two-Factor Authentication, then Authenticator App.
- Enter the code WazirX sends you by SMS or email.
- WazirX shows a QR code. In Novaz, tap +, then Scan QR code, and point the camera at it. If the QR code is on the same iPhone, take a screenshot and use Choose a photo instead. See scanning a QR code on the same iPhone.
- If you can't scan, WazirX lets you type the code by hand. Its help calls this text key the recovery code. In Novaz, tap +, then Enter key manually, and paste it into Setup key. See What is a 2FA setup key?
- Enter the 6-digit code from Novaz.
- Save the recovery code somewhere safe.
- Open the confirmation email from WazirX and approve the request. The switch isn't finished until you do.
WazirX says its app codes change about every 30 seconds (WazirX), which is what Novaz uses for a typed key. Scanning the QR code is still the easier choice.
Save the recovery code
The same name, recovery code, appears in two places in WazirX's setup article: for the key you can type in, and for the code it tells you to keep because you'll need it if you lose your device. Its security tips add that this backup key shouldn't be stored in your email or on your device. WazirX's pages don't say whether you can see it again later or how many times it works.
Even with a Novaz iCloud backup or backup file, keep this code: it's your way back if the phone is lost and the Novaz backup is missing or out of date. Write it down or keep it in a password manager, and see 2FA backup codes.
When WazirX asks for a code
WazirX asks for the code when you sign in and for sensitive actions (WazirX). Crypto withdrawals are the clearest example: you enter your 2FA code when you add a new withdrawal address, then confirm the withdrawal with a code sent to your mobile number and an email approval (WazirX). Deactivating or closing your account also asks for 2FA plus an email code.
WazirX Support says it will never ask for your 2FA codes (WazirX). If someone claiming to be WazirX asks for one, don't share it.
If WazirX rejects your code
WazirX's help blames an "incorrect or expired OTP" error mostly on the time in your authenticator app (WazirX). It suggests a time-sync setting in the app, which Novaz doesn't have, because Novaz uses your iPhone's clock. Open Settings > General > Date & Time and turn on Set Automatically. Novaz also warns you when the clock is 15 seconds or more off. If the error keeps coming, WazirX says to contact support. Other causes are in Authenticator code not working?
Changing phones
WazirX's article on new phones covers only Google Authenticator's export feature (WazirX). In Novaz, the equivalent is an iCloud backup or backup file: restore it on the new iPhone and your WazirX codes keep working. If you have neither but saved the recovery code, you can add it to the new phone with Enter key manually. Otherwise, keep the old phone until you've set WazirX up again on the new one. See How to transfer your authenticator app to a new iPhone.
If you lose your authenticator
WazirX documents three routes:
- Recovery code. On the sign-in page, enter your email and password, select Recover Authentication Code, and follow the steps on screen (WazirX).
- Self-service reset. Go to the 2FA reset page at wazirx.com/account-management/2fa, sign in with your email and password, enter two codes WazirX sends you, then give your PAN number and date of birth. If you can't get the SMS code, select Unable to access SMS OTP and complete a video KYC check with your PAN card. WazirX reviews those requests within 48 hours and emails you the result (WazirX).
- Support chat. If you've lost the recovery code, ask through the support chat and pass the verification checks. Manual resets take up to 48 hours, and your account may be restricted until then (WazirX).

Going back to SMS
Under Profile > Account Settings, select Two-Factor Authentication, then Mobile SMS. Enter a code from Novaz, then the code WazirX sends by SMS or email, and approve the change in the confirmation email (WazirX). After that, you can remove WazirX from Novaz: open the account and tap Remove account.
