AwardWallet 2FA: how to set up an authenticator app
By the Novaz team · Updated October 29, 2026
Novaz steps checked against version 1.0.5
On this page
AwardWallet tracks your airline, hotel and credit card points, and to do that it often keeps the usernames and passwords of those loyalty accounts. That makes your AwardWallet profile worth protecting. AwardWallet offers two-factor authentication (2FA) as an optional, free setting, and it asks for a one-time code from an authenticator app on top of your username and password when you sign in (AwardWallet, AwardWallet). Its help doesn't describe text-message codes or any other method. This guide uses Authenticator App - Novaz on iPhone, but any authenticator app works the same way.
How we checked this guide: the AwardWallet steps come from AwardWallet's own FAQ and its Tip of the Day blog posts, linked below, which we read on October 21, 2026. We haven't tested them on an AwardWallet account, so a label may differ slightly. The Novaz steps are checked against the app, version 1.0.5.
Why it matters here
AwardWallet's security FAQ makes the case itself: with 2FA on, someone who steals your AwardWallet password, or gets hold of your computer, still can't get into your profile without a code (AwardWallet). Because the profile can hold passwords for many other programs, one stolen password could otherwise expose all of them.
AwardWallet also shows an alert at the bottom of the page when it sees other active sessions on your account. From there you can sign the other sessions out and change your password, and AwardWallet recommends turning on 2FA at the same time (AwardWallet).
Turn on 2FA with an authenticator app
AwardWallet's FAQ describes a short setup (AwardWallet):
- Sign in to AwardWallet on the website and open your profile. The FAQ links to awardwallet.com/user/edit.php, which sends you to the sign-in page first.
- Find the Two-factor Authentication heading and click Setup.
- AwardWallet shows a QR code. In Novaz, tap +, then Scan QR code, and point the camera at it.
- If the AwardWallet page is open on the same iPhone, take a screenshot, then in Novaz tap + and Choose a photo. See scanning a QR code on the same iPhone.
- Type the code Novaz shows into AwardWallet. The FAQ says that's the last step.
The FAQ doesn't mention a text key you can type instead of scanning, so plan to scan the QR code. It also names password managers such as 1Password and LastPass as an alternative to an authenticator app. The FAQ was written some years ago (it still mentions Windows Phone), so the screen you see may look different.
Backup codes and other sign-in options
AwardWallet's help doesn't mention backup or recovery codes, and doesn't describe a second method to fall back on. If the setup screen offers codes, save them somewhere away from your phone. They'd be your way back in if the phone is gone and you have no Novaz backup (iCloud backup or a backup file). More in 2FA backup codes.
If AwardWallet rejects your code
AwardWallet has an FAQ for this (AwardWallet). First make sure you typed the code you see right now. If it's correct and still fails, AwardWallet points to the time: its example is a laptop showing 1:00 pm while the phone shows 1:03 pm. A gap like that breaks the codes.
On iPhone, open Settings > General > Date & Time and turn on Set Automatically. Novaz also warns you when the clock is 15 seconds or more off. Check the computer's clock too, then try again. Other causes are in Authenticator code not working?
Changing phones
AwardWallet doesn't document how to move 2FA to a new phone or how to turn it off. If you have a Novaz iCloud backup or backup file, you can restore your accounts on the new iPhone. Without one, keep the old phone working until you've signed in and checked your profile for a way to set up 2FA again with the new one. If there isn't one, ask AwardWallet support before you wipe the old phone. See How to transfer your authenticator app to a new iPhone.
If you lose your authenticator
AwardWallet's help doesn't describe a recovery process for a lost authenticator, and doesn't say what proof it would ask for. The documented way to reach the team is the Contact Us page. AwardWallet has no phone support and says it usually answers support requests within one business day (AwardWallet). When you write, say that you've lost access to your authenticator app.
