Chatwork 2FA: how to set up an authenticator app

Novaz steps checked against version 1.0.5

Chatwork is a business chat app for messages, tasks and file sharing with coworkers and clients. Its two-factor authentication (2FA) is optional but recommended, and once it's on you type a code after your email and password each time you log in. Chatwork offers two ways to get that code: an authenticator app or a text message. But text-message 2FA isn't available on the free plan, so free users have the authenticator app as their only choice (Chatwork).
This guide uses Authenticator App - Novaz on iPhone. Chatwork's help names Google Authenticator but accepts any authenticator app, so Novaz works the same way.
How we checked this guide: the Chatwork steps come from Chatwork's own English help center, linked below, which we read on October 21, 2026. The article pages block automated visits and no archived copy could be loaded, so we read the same articles through the help center's public article feed on support-en.chatwork.com. We haven't tested the steps on a Chatwork account, so a label may differ slightly. The Novaz steps are checked against the app, version 1.0.5.
Before you start
- Your company uses single sign-on (SAML): you can't set up 2FA in Chatwork; ask your administrator (Chatwork).
- Your administrator can't do it for you. Each user sets up 2FA themselves; administrators on paid plans can only see who has it on (Chatwork).
Turn on 2FA with an authenticator app
These steps are from Chatwork's setup article (Chatwork):
- In Chatwork, open the menu under your user name in the top-right corner of the chat screen and select Account Settings.
- Click the Change button next to two-factor authentication.
- Switch two-factor authentication from Off to On.
- Select Authentication app, then click Begin setup.
- Chatwork shows a QR code. In Novaz, tap +, then Scan QR code, and point the camera at it. If Chatwork is open on the same iPhone, take a screenshot, tap +, then Choose a photo. See scanning a QR code on the same iPhone.
- If the QR code won't scan, Chatwork also gives you an account name and a setup key. In Novaz, tap +, then Enter key manually. Put the account name in Account, the key in Setup key, and something like "Chatwork" in Service. See What is a 2FA setup key?
- Type the 6-digit code from Novaz and click Enable settings.
- Chatwork then shows your backup codes. Save them before you leave the page.
Your backup codes
Chatwork gives you a set of 10 backup codes. Each one works only once. You can see them again or make a fresh set at any time: go to Account Settings, click Change next to two-factor authentication, then click Confirm or regenerate next to the backup codes. If you turn 2FA off, every backup code stops working, and turning it back on gives you new ones (Chatwork).
Novaz can keep a copy of its keys with iCloud backup or a backup file, but these codes still get you in if the phone is gone and that backup is missing or old. Keep them in a password manager or on paper, away from your phone. More in 2FA backup codes.
Paid plans can also add a spare phone number that receives a login code by text when your app isn't available. That option isn't on the free plan (Chatwork).
If Chatwork rejects your code
Chatwork's help warns that repeated failed 2FA attempts can restrict logins to your account. On a paid plan, an administrator can lift that by turning off your 2FA (Chatwork). So don't keep guessing.
Chatwork doesn't give specific advice for rejected app codes. The usual cause is the iPhone's clock: open Settings > General > Date & Time and turn on Set Automatically. Novaz warns you when the clock is 15 seconds or more off. Other causes are in Authenticator code not working?
One more thing to check: Chatwork also has a Sign in with Authentication Code option that emails you a code valid for 5 minutes (Chatwork). If you see two code screens, make sure you type the Novaz code where the app code is asked for, not the one from your inbox.
If you lose your authenticator
Chatwork's help lists these routes, in order (Chatwork):
- A backup code. On the login page, enter your email address and password. Under the code field, click If you are unable to obtain your authentication code, type a backup code and click Authenticate.
- Your spare phone number (paid plans). From the same screen, click Log in using additional phone number, then Send SMS to Additional Phone Number, and enter the code you get.
- Your administrator (Standard and Professional plans). An administrator or user administrator can turn off your 2FA from Admin Settings > User list, so you can log in again and set it up fresh.
If none of these work, Chatwork's security Q&A says to contact it through the inquiry form on its help center (Chatwork). Chatwork doesn't say what proof it asks for or how long it takes. For a free account with no backup codes left, that form is the only route the help describes. See also Lost the phone with your authenticator app?
Changing phones
Chatwork doesn't describe moving 2FA to a new phone. In Novaz, you can restore your accounts on the new iPhone from iCloud backup or a backup file. Without either, while the old phone still works, turn 2FA off and set it up again on the new one. This also replaces your backup codes. See How to transfer your authenticator app to a new iPhone.
Turning 2FA off
Go to Account Settings, click Change next to two-factor authentication, switch it from ON to OFF, and click Disable. Your backup codes are deleted at the same time (Chatwork). Then remove Chatwork from Novaz: open the account and tap Remove account.
