Crowdcube 2FA: how to set up an authenticator app

Crowdcube is the investment crowdfunding platform where you buy shares in startups and growing businesses, and where companies run their funding rounds. Because the account holds your investments, your identity documents and your bank details, it's worth protecting with more than a password. Crowdcube calls its two-factor authentication MFA. It's optional, and its help center describes only one kind: codes from an authenticator app (Crowdcube).
That makes Crowdcube different from many sites. Once MFA is on, there's no fallback to a text message or an email. Crowdcube says it plainly: "We do not send this code by email or SMS" (Crowdcube). The code has to come from your app.
This guide uses Authenticator App - Novaz on iPhone. Crowdcube names Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator and Authy as the apps it recommends, but Novaz and any other authenticator app that makes time-based codes work the same way.
How we checked this guide: the Crowdcube steps come from Crowdcube's own help center, linked below, which we read on October 21, 2026. The help center refuses automated page requests, so we read the articles through its public article feed on help.crowdcube.com and compared them with archived copies on web.archive.org from October 2025. We haven't tested them on a Crowdcube account, so a label may differ slightly. The Novaz steps are checked against the app, version 1.0.5.
Turn on MFA with an authenticator app
Crowdcube's instructions are short (Crowdcube):
- Sign in to your Crowdcube account on the website.
- Go to My Account, then Security. You can also go straight to crowdcube.com/my-account/security while signed in.
- Follow the steps there to turn on MFA.
Crowdcube's help doesn't show those steps, so the next part is the usual pattern for authenticator setup:
- When Crowdcube shows a QR code, open Novaz, tap +, then Scan QR code, and point the camera at it. If the QR code is on the same iPhone, take a screenshot, tap +, then Choose a photo. See scanning a QR code on the same iPhone.
- If Crowdcube also gives you a key to type, you can tap +, then Enter key manually in Novaz instead, and fill in Service, Account (optional) and Setup key. Crowdcube's help doesn't say whether it shows a key or what it calls one. See What is a 2FA setup key?
- Type the 6-digit code from Novaz into Crowdcube to finish.
Scanning is the safer choice when you have it, because the QR code carries the code settings and a typed key is read as 6 digits every 30 seconds.
Save your recovery codes
Crowdcube's help mentions recovery codes when it explains what to do after losing your device, which suggests you're given them during setup (Crowdcube). It doesn't say how many there are, how to use one at sign-in, or how to get new ones. If Crowdcube shows codes, save them somewhere away from your phone, such as a password manager or a printed page.
Without iCloud backup or a backup file, Novaz keeps its keys only on your iPhone, so those codes are your way back in. More in 2FA backup codes.
When Crowdcube asks for a code
If Crowdcube asks for a verification code when you sign in, that means MFA is on for your account. Open your authenticator app, find the Crowdcube entry, and type the 6-digit code (Crowdcube). Don't wait for an email or a text: none will come. Crowdcube's help doesn't say whether it asks on every sign-in or only on new devices.
If Crowdcube rejects your code
Crowdcube's login help suggests signing out and back in, clearing your browser's cache, and trying another browser or device. If none of that works, send Support a screenshot of the error (Crowdcube).
For a code that's refused, check your iPhone's clock first: Settings > General > Date & Time > Set Automatically. Novaz warns you when the clock is 15 seconds or more off. Other causes are in Authenticator code not working?
Changing phones
Crowdcube's help doesn't describe moving MFA to a new phone. In Novaz, iCloud backup or a backup file restores your accounts on the new iPhone. Without one, keep the old phone until you've set Crowdcube up again on the new one, from the same Security page if it lets you. See How to transfer your authenticator app to a new iPhone.
If you lose your authenticator
Try a recovery code if you saved them. If you've lost your device and can't get to your recovery codes, Crowdcube's help says to contact its Support Team through the help center's request form (Crowdcube). It doesn't say what proof of identity Support asks for or how long a reset takes. Writing from the email address on your Crowdcube account is likely to help Support find it.
