An EVE Online account holds your characters, their skill points and everything they own, so account thieves go after it. Two-factor authentication (2FA) isn't required, but EVE's help is direct: "Always use an authenticator whenever you can" (EVE Online). In September 2026 the EVE Online team urged every player to turn it on (EVE Online). Without an authenticator app, EVE emails you a code when it doesn't recognize your browser or launcher (EVE Online). This guide uses Authenticator App - Novaz on iPhone, but any authenticator app works the same way.

How we checked this guide: the EVE Online steps come from EVE Online's own help center and official news posts, linked below, which we read on October 20, 2026. We haven't tested them on an EVE Online account, so a label may differ slightly. The Novaz steps are checked against the app, version 1.0.5.

Steam and Epic players: check this first

If you play through Steam, Steam Guard protects your EVE account, and EVE's help says no separate EVE setup is needed (EVE Online). Steam Guard codes come from the Steam Mobile App, and Novaz can't make them. Accounts created through the Epic Games Store sign in with your Epic login, so their protection lives on the Epic side (EVE Online). The rest of this guide is for accounts with an EVE username and password.

Turn on 2FA with an authenticator app

These steps follow EVE's help article, last edited in April 2024 (EVE Online), with the button name from a 2019 EVE news post (EVE Online), so labels may differ a little.

  1. Sign in to Account Management at secure.eveonline.com. Open the authenticator settings from Account Info, or go straight to secure.eveonline.com/account/authenticator.
  2. Select Enable Authenticator.
  3. EVE shows a QR code. In Novaz, tap +, then Scan QR code, and point the camera at it. If the page is on the same iPhone, take a screenshot and use Choose a photo. See scanning a QR code on the same iPhone.
  4. If you can't scan, EVE shows an Account and a Key. In Novaz, tap +, then Enter key manually, and type the key as the Setup key, exactly as shown. EVE's page also asks you to copy the account label (EVEOnline:accountname), but in Novaz Service and Account only name the entry: the codes come from the key alone. See What is a 2FA setup key?
  5. Type the 6-digit code from Novaz into the page and press Verify.

EVE's help doesn't say how long the key is or how often the codes change. Scan the QR code when you can, since it carries those settings. A key typed by hand gets 30-second codes and must be at least 16 characters.

Running several accounts

EVE lets you supply your own seed during setup, so several accounts can share one code, though EVE says that's less safe than a seed per account (EVE Online). With Novaz, give each account its own key and its own entry, and put the account name in Account so you pick the right code at sign-in.

When EVE asks for a code

With the authenticator on, signing in through the EVE Launcher or EVE's sign-in page takes an extra step after your username and password (EVE Online, EVE Online). You can tick Don't ask for codes again on this computer. EVE keeps that choice in a browser cookie, so clearing cookies or switching browsers brings the prompt back.

When a third-party EVE tool asks you to sign in, check the address bar first: EVE says its only real sign-on address is login.eveonline.com, over https (EVE Online).

No backup codes, so protect your email

EVE's help pages don't mention backup or recovery codes. Unless you have a Novaz backup (iCloud backup or a file from Export to file…), losing your phone means going through EVE support (below), which works from your account's email address. EVE's security team has said most thefts it sees start with a hacked email account (EVE Online). Turn on 2FA for that email account too.

EVE's 2015 announcement of 2FA said changing the account's email address switched 2FA off (EVE Online). Current pages don't say whether that still happens, so check your settings after an email change.

If EVE rejects your code

EVE's help has no advice on rejected authenticator codes. If you run several accounts, first make sure you're reading the right entry. Then check the iPhone's clock: Settings > General > Date & Time > Set Automatically. Novaz warns you when the clock is 15 seconds or more off. More causes are in Authenticator code not working?

Changing phones

EVE doesn't describe moving the authenticator to a new phone, only removing it with Disable (see the last section). So while the old iPhone still works, turn the authenticator off, then set it up again on the new one. With a Novaz iCloud backup or backup file, you can restore the entry on the new iPhone instead and skip this. See How to transfer your authenticator app to a new iPhone.

If you lose your authenticator

There's no documented self-service reset. EVE's account recovery page handles a forgotten username or password by email, but not the authenticator (EVE Online). That leaves Customer Support, which EVE's newer pages call Fenris Support (EVE Online):

  • If you can't sign in, email support@eveonline.com. The email opens a ticket, and EVE's help says a Game Master will assist (EVE Online, EVE Online).
  • If you can still use the help center, the Submit A Request button opens a ticket.

EVE doesn't publish what proof it needs before removing an authenticator, or how long that takes. To find an account, Support usually relies on the registered email address, the real name and date of birth, and billing or card details (EVE Online). Have those ready, and write from the email address on the account if you can. More in Lost the phone with your authenticator app?

Turning 2FA off

Open the Settings in Account Management again and press Disable (EVE Online). Then open the EVE entry in Novaz and tap Remove account.
