Favro 2FA: how to set up an authenticator app

Novaz steps checked against version 1.0.5

Favro is a planning and collaboration tool where teams keep boards, cards and backlogs. Its two-factor authentication (2FA) is optional and has one method: a code from an authenticator app on your phone. There's a catch worth knowing before you start. Favro offers it for accounts that sign in with an email address and password, and its setup screen warns that turning it on disables signing in with Google (Favro, Favro). This guide uses Authenticator App - Novaz on iPhone. Any authenticator app works the same way.
How we checked this guide: the Favro steps come from Favro's own help center and its security page, linked below, including the screenshots in the help article, which we read on October 24, 2026. We haven't tested them on a Favro account, so a label may differ slightly. The Novaz steps are checked against the app, version 1.0.5.
Before you start: Google, GitHub and SAML sign-in
Favro's security page says 2FA is available for all Favro password accounts. The same page lists other ways in: Google and GitHub sign-in on every plan, and SAML single sign-on on the enterprise plan (Favro).
The help article adds that if you signed up with Google or a similar service, that way of signing in is disabled once 2FA is on (Favro). So make sure you know your Favro password, and can sign in with it, before you begin. Favro's pages don't say how 2FA works for people who sign in with GitHub or through SAML.
Turn on 2FA with an authenticator app
Favro's help article walks through these steps (Favro):
- Open Favro's main menu and choose My profile.
- On the Profile and account page, find Two-factor authentication and click Setup using a mobile app.
- A Two-factor authentication window opens. Under Add key, Favro shows the key as text above a QR code.
- In Novaz, tap +, then Scan QR code, and point the camera at the code. If Favro is open on the same iPhone, take a screenshot and use Choose a photo instead. See scanning a QR code on the same iPhone.
- If you'd rather type the key, tap +, then Enter key manually in Novaz. Put Favro under Service, your email under Account, and the text key from Favro under Setup key. See What is a 2FA setup key?
- Back in Favro, under Verify, type the six-digit code that Novaz shows.
- Click Enable two-factor authentication.
Favro also offers Generate new key in the same window, if you want a fresh key before you finish. Cancel closes the window without turning anything on.
The screenshots in Favro's article come from different years, and the setup window looks older than the profile page. If your screen doesn't match, look for the same words rather than the same layout.
Save the recovery codes
Once 2FA is on, the Two-factor authentication section changes. It says 2FA is enabled and shows a View recovery codes link (Favro). Click it. The window that opens, Two-factor authentication recovery codes, holds a set of one-time codes you can type instead of an authenticator code. You can Print or Download them.
Favro's help asks you to store a copy somewhere secure. With Novaz this matters too: without an iCloud backup or a backup file, its keys exist only on that iPhone, so the recovery codes are your way back in if the phone is gone. Even with a Novaz backup, they cover you if the backup is out of date. Keep them in a password manager or on paper, away from the phone.
Generate new recovery codes in the same window makes a new set, and the screen warns that any old codes stop working. More in 2FA backup codes.
If Favro rejects your code
Favro's help doesn't cover rejected codes. The usual cause is the phone's clock. On iPhone, open Settings > General > Date & Time and turn on Set Automatically. Novaz warns you when the clock is 15 seconds or more off. Also check that you're reading the Favro entry if you have several accounts in Novaz. Other causes are in Authenticator code not working?
If you lose your authenticator
Use one of your recovery codes when Favro asks for a code. Favro's help doesn't describe any other recovery route, such as a reset by support, and doesn't say what proof it would ask for. Its contact page lists live chat and the email address customersuccess@favro.com for all issues (Favro), so that's where to ask if you have no codes left. See also Lost the phone with your authenticator app?
Changing phones or turning 2FA off
The section that shows View recovery codes also has a Disable two-factor authentication button (Favro). Favro doesn't document a way to move 2FA to a new phone. If you have a Novaz iCloud backup or backup file, restore it on the new iPhone and Favro's codes carry on working. Without one, a workable route while you still have the old phone: turn 2FA off in Favro, then set it up again with the new phone and save the new recovery codes. See How to transfer your authenticator app to a new iPhone.
Favro's help doesn't say whether turning 2FA off brings back Google sign-in.
