GoSquared 2FA: how to set up an authenticator app

GoSquared is a London-based analytics, live chat and customer data tool, so your account holds dashboards, chat conversations and contact profiles. GoSquared has offered two-factor authentication (2FA) since 2015, with two ways to get codes: an authenticator app or text messages (GoSquared). It's optional. GoSquared recommends it but doesn't say it's ever required.
What sets GoSquared apart is its backup: one Emergency backup code that turns two-factor authentication off, plus an optional Fallback SMS number. This guide uses Authenticator App - Novaz on iPhone, but any authenticator app works the same way.
How we checked this guide: the GoSquared steps come from GoSquared's own support articles and blog, including the screenshots in its two-factor article, which we read on October 21, 2026. We haven't tested them on a GoSquared account, so a label may differ slightly. The Novaz steps are checked against the app, version 1.0.5.
GoSquared last updated its two-factor article on September 10, 2020, so the current screens may differ from its screenshots.
Turn on 2FA with an authenticator app
These steps follow GoSquared's article and the labels in its screenshots (GoSquared):
- Sign in to GoSquared on the web and go to Settings > Your Account > Security (GoSquared).
- Find the two-factor authentication section and click Configure.
- On Verify your password, type your GoSquared password and click Continue.
- On How would you like to receive your security codes?, choose Use a mobile app, then Continue. Use SMS is the text-message option; see authenticator app vs SMS.
- The Scan to set up screen shows a QR code. In Novaz, tap +, then Scan QR code, and point the camera at it. If the QR code is on the same iPhone, take a screenshot, tap +, then Choose a photo. See scanning a QR code on the same iPhone.
- If you can't scan, click Enter code manually instead... to get a text key. In Novaz, tap +, then Enter key manually, and paste the key into Setup key. See What is a 2FA setup key?
- Type the current code from Novaz into Security code and click Enable.
- When you see Two-factor authentication enabled!, click Configure + view backup code.
GoSquared's article doesn't show what the manual key looks like, or say how long its codes last. Its screenshots show 6-digit codes. Scanning the QR code is the safer route, because the QR code tells Novaz the exact settings.
Save the emergency backup code
After setup, the Configure two-factor authentication screen shows your Emergency backup code. GoSquared's screenshot says this code lets you disable two-factor authentication, and tells you to write it down (GoSquared). It's not a one-time sign-in code: it takes 2FA off. Keep it like a second password, away from your phone.
The same screen has a Fallback SMS number section. It lets GoSquared text your codes to another device, and GoSquared asks you to keep that number secure. The article's text offers the two as either-or, but its screenshot shows both set up at once. Click Done when you're finished.
Unless you back up Novaz with iCloud backup or a backup file, its keys are only on that iPhone, and these backups are your way in without it. More in 2FA backup codes.
When GoSquared asks for a code
Once 2FA is on, GoSquared's confirmation screen says you'll need your password and a security code every time you sign in (GoSquared). The pages we read don't mention a way to remember a trusted device.
If GoSquared rejects your code
GoSquared's help doesn't cover rejected codes. The usual cause is the iPhone's clock: open Settings > General > Date & Time and turn on Set Automatically. Novaz also warns you when your clock is 15 seconds or more off. Other causes are in Authenticator code not working?
Changing phones
GoSquared doesn't document moving 2FA to a new phone. Its configure screen shows Reconfigure and Disable links next to your current method, but the article doesn't explain them. Use them while you still have the old phone, and scan the new QR code on the new one. If you have a Novaz iCloud backup or backup file, you can restore your accounts on the new iPhone instead. See How to transfer your authenticator app to a new iPhone.
If you lose your authenticator
Use one of the two backups above:
- Emergency backup code: GoSquared says it lets you disable two-factor authentication. Its pages don't show where you enter it, so if you can't find the place on the sign-in screen, contact support (below). Once you're back in, set 2FA up again with your new phone.
- Fallback SMS number: GoSquared can send codes to that number instead.
If you have neither, GoSquared doesn't publish a 2FA recovery process. Its sign-in help says to contact the team if you still can't sign in (GoSquared); the support address on its help pages is support@gosquared.com. GoSquared doesn't say what proof it asks for or how long a reset takes.

Turning 2FA off
Go to Settings > Your Account > Security, click Configure, and use the Disable link shown next to your current method. The article doesn't describe what follows. Once 2FA is off, open the GoSquared entry in Novaz and tap Remove account.
