Your Linktree account runs your link-in-bio page, so anyone who gets into it can send your followers wherever they like. Linktree calls its second sign-in step MFA (multi-factor authentication) and offers two kinds: a 6-digit code by text message or voice call, or codes from an authenticator app (Linktree). Text messages are only available for phone numbers in the United States, Australia, the United Kingdom and Canada. Everywhere else, the app is your only option, and Linktree notes it's also the better fit when you travel or have weak signal. More on the difference in authenticator app vs SMS.

Linktree's help doesn't make MFA mandatory, but its malware advice tells you to turn it on once your device is clean (Linktree).

We use Authenticator App - Novaz on iPhone below. Linktree doesn't ask for a particular app, so the steps are the same in any other authenticator.

How we checked this guide: the Linktree steps come from Linktree's own help center, linked below, which we read on October 20, 2026. We haven't tested them on a Linktree account, so a label may differ slightly. The Novaz steps are checked against the app, version 1.0.5.

Turn on MFA with an authenticator app

Linktree's MFA article, last updated in June 2025, describes these steps (Linktree):

  1. In your Linktree Admin, open the My Account page (linktr.ee/admin/account).
  2. Scroll down to the Security and privacy section.
  3. Choose Authenticator App, then tap Add.
  4. Linktree shows a code to scan. In Novaz, tap +, then Scan QR code, and hold the camera over it. On the same iPhone, take a screenshot and use Choose a photo instead. See scanning a QR code on the same iPhone.
  5. If the scan fails, tap Trouble Scanning?. Linktree then shows a manual code, which is the setup key. In Novaz, tap +, then Enter key manually, type Linktree under Service and the code under Setup key. Account is optional. See What is a 2FA setup key?
  6. Finish the prompts. The article describes no confirmation step; if Linktree asks for a code, enter the one Novaz shows.

Newer Linktree articles, from October 2026, call the page Account (your profile image in the left sidebar, or More on mobile) with a section named Account Security (Linktree). They don't mention MFA, but your labels may match them rather than the older article.

Linktree's help says the app's codes have 6 digits (Linktree) but not how often they change. Scan the QR code when you can, since it carries the code settings.

When Linktree asks for a code

From your next sign-in, Linktree wants a code from the app. At sign-in you can pick Remember this device for 30 days, and that device won't be asked again unless you log out (Linktree).

The code also guards Plann by Linktree, the post scheduler you reach from the Social Planner tab. Whether you open Plann from Linktree or use Sign in with Linktree on Plann's own login page, you'll be asked for the 6-digit code from your authenticator app (Linktree).

Keep it apart from the login code Linktree emails, from verify@accounts.linktr.ee, each time you sign in without a password (Linktree, Linktree). You can also sign in with Google or Apple (Linktree). The help doesn't say how MFA combines with the emailed code, or whether it covers Google or Apple sign-in.

No backup codes in Linktree's help

The MFA article doesn't mention backup or recovery codes. It also doesn't say whether text messages can stay on as a second method next to the app. That gap matters with Novaz if you haven't made a backup: without iCloud backup or a backup file, its keys live only on your iPhone. Check that you can still open the email address on your Linktree account: Linktree sends login codes and password reset links only there (Linktree).

If Linktree rejects your code

Linktree's help has no advice for authenticator codes that fail. First check the iPhone's clock: Settings > General > Date & Time > Set Automatically. Novaz warns you when the clock drifts 15 seconds or more. Then make sure the screen wants the app's code and not the emailed login code. Other causes are in Authenticator code not working?

Changing phones or turning MFA off

Linktree's help doesn't describe moving MFA to a new phone, replacing the app, or switching MFA off. Make changes while you still have the old phone, and ask Linktree support if you can't find the option. With a Novaz iCloud backup or backup file, you can restore Linktree on the new iPhone; without one, you'll add it again there. See How to transfer your authenticator app to a new iPhone.

If you lose your authenticator

Linktree doesn't document a recovery route for a lost authenticator app. What you can do:

  • Don't log out of a remembered device. Where you picked the 30-day option, Linktree won't ask for a code until you log out.
  • Contact Linktree support with the Contact support button under Still need help? at the end of a help article. Linktree doesn't say what proof it needs to reset MFA or how long it takes. For a lost account email, it asks for the email on the account (or your best guess), your Linktree username or URL, and a short account of what happened (Linktree), so have those ready.
