NameHero 2FA: how to set up an authenticator app

Novaz steps checked against version 1.0.5

NameHero is a web hosting company, and its client portal is where you manage hosting plans, domain registrations, invoices and support tickets (NameHero). Two-factor authentication (2FA) there is optional, but it unlocks one thing: a note in NameHero's own dashboard screenshot says service passwords stay hidden in the client area until you turn it on (NameHero).
The portal offers two methods: codes from an authenticator app, or a YubiKey. This guide covers the app, using Authenticator App - Novaz on iPhone. Any authenticator app works the same way. NameHero's help names Google Authenticator, but it isn't required.
How we checked this guide: the NameHero steps come from NameHero's own help center, including the screenshots in its articles, which we read on October 21, 2026. We haven't tested them on a NameHero account, so a label may differ slightly. The Novaz steps are checked against the app, version 1.0.5.
This is about the client portal login only. cPanel webmail and Web Host Manager (WHM) each have their own two-factor setting, with separate NameHero articles.
Turn on 2FA with an authenticator app
NameHero's setup article, last updated June 2025, walks through these screens (NameHero):
- Sign in to the client portal at namehero.com/login.
- Click your name in the top right corner and choose Security Settings.
- Open the Two-Factor Authentication tab and click Click here to Enable.
- In the Enable Two-Factor Authentication window, select Time Based Tokens, then click Get Started ».
- The Connect your app screen shows a QR code. In Novaz, tap +, then Scan QR code, and point the camera at it. If the portal is open on the same iPhone, take a screenshot and use Choose a photo instead. See scanning a QR code on the same iPhone.
- Type the 6-digit code from Novaz into the Enter authentication code box and click Submit.
- NameHero confirms that two-factor authentication is on and shows your Backup Code. Save it before you click Close.
The same screen also prints the key as text, next to "Enter the code manually". You could type it in Novaz under + > Enter key manually as the Setup key (What is a 2FA setup key?), but scan the QR code if you can. NameHero's pages don't agree on how often the code changes: the setup article only says it rotates, while the login help says it expires every minute (NameHero). A QR code carries the right timing to your app. A key typed by hand always gets 30 seconds in Novaz.
One backup code, not a list
Most services hand you a page of recovery codes. NameHero's portal shows one backup code, a string of letters and numbers. The screen says to treat it like a password and suggests a password manager. NameHero's help adds that you need it to sign in without your phone (NameHero).
With Novaz, that code matters more than usual if you haven't made a Novaz backup: without iCloud backup or a backup file, its keys exist only on your iPhone. Store the code somewhere other than your phone. NameHero doesn't say whether the code works more than once or whether you get a new one after using it. More in 2FA backup codes.
Signing in
After your email address and password, the portal shows a Two-Factor Authentication page. Enter the current code from Novaz and click Login. If you don't have your phone, the link Login using Backup Code on that page takes the backup code instead (NameHero). NameHero's help suggests signing out once right after setup to try it.
If NameHero rejects your code
NameHero's help doesn't cover rejected codes. The usual cause is the phone's clock. On iPhone, open Settings > General > Date & Time and turn on Set Automatically. Novaz also warns you when the clock is 15 seconds or more off. If you typed the key by hand, remove the account in Novaz and add it again by scanning the QR code. Other causes are in Authenticator code not working?
If you lose your authenticator
Use Login using Backup Code first. If that fails too, NameHero says to contact its support team, describe the problem and include your four-digit support PIN (NameHero). NameHero asks for that PIN before it makes any account change. You find it under Account Details, in the Additional Information section (NameHero). That page sits behind the login, so write the PIN down now, while you can still sign in. The support address on the help center is support@namehero.com. NameHero doesn't say what else it checks or how long a reset takes.

New phone or turning it off
NameHero's help doesn't describe moving 2FA to a new phone or turning it off. Before you give up the old phone, check Security Settings in the portal for a way to turn the app off and set it up again. With Novaz's iCloud backup or a backup file, you can restore your accounts on the new iPhone instead. Without one, each account needs to be added again on the new phone.
