Your Nitrado account is where you rent and manage game servers and top up credit. Nitrado's two-factor authentication (2FA) is optional. It offers two kinds: a code from an authenticator app on your phone, and a U2F hardware security key. You can turn on one or both. One detail trips people up: the setting is on the Nitrado website, and Nitrado says it can't be set up in the Nitrado app (Nitrado).

Nitrado's help names Google Authenticator, but the setup is a standard time-based code, so any authenticator app works. This guide uses Authenticator App - Novaz on iPhone.

How we checked this guide: Nitrado's current 2FA guide loads its text with JavaScript from a separate service, and we couldn't read it. The Internet Archive's copies of it are empty too. So the Nitrado steps come from an archived copy of Nitrado's former official wiki, last edited in October 2021, which we read on the Internet Archive on October 21, 2026, together with Nitrado's developer documentation and support site, read the same day. All are linked below. We haven't tested the steps on a Nitrado account, and Nitrado has redesigned its website since that wiki page was written, so labels may differ. The Novaz steps are checked against the app, version 1.0.5.

Turn on 2FA with an authenticator app

Use a web browser, on a computer or on your phone (Nitrado):

  1. Go to nitrado.net and log in.
  2. At the top right, click your username, then My Account.
  3. Under Options, choose Control Two-factor authentication. (The wiki's text writes it as Control Two-Factor Authentication.)
  4. In the Google Authenticator section, which says no smartphone is connected yet, click Add.
  5. Nitrado shows a QR code. In Novaz, tap +, then Scan QR code, and point the camera at it. If you're doing this in Safari on the same iPhone, take a screenshot, then tap + and Choose a photo. See scanning a QR code on the same iPhone.
  6. Type the code that Novaz shows into the Nitrado page to confirm.

The archived help page only talks about the QR code. Nitrado's developer documentation shows that the setup data includes a 16-character secret next to the QR code, using the usual settings for authenticator apps (Nitrado). If the page shows you that key as text, you can add it in Novaz with +, then Enter key manually, typing it as the Setup key. Scanning is still the easier choice. More in What is a 2FA setup key?

The U2F key has its own Add button on the same page.

When Nitrado asks for a code

According to Nitrado, once it's on, you use two-factor authentication when you log in (Nitrado). The pages we could read don't say whether Nitrado asks on every login or remembers a device, or whether it asks again for actions like changing your email address.

No backup codes mentioned

Nitrado's pages that we could read don't mention backup or recovery codes. Unless you turn on iCloud backup or export a backup file in Novaz, its keys exist only on your iPhone, so plan for losing that phone before you need to. Besides a Novaz backup, two things help:

  • Keep access to the email address on your Nitrado account. Nitrado's password reset goes through it (Nitrado).
  • If you own a U2F security key, add it as well, since Nitrado allows both. Its pages don't say whether the key can stand in for a missing app code at login, so treat it as a possible fallback, not a promise.

If Nitrado rejects your code

Nitrado's help doesn't cover rejected codes. The usual cause is the iPhone's clock: open Settings > General > Date & Time and turn on Set Automatically. Novaz warns you when your clock is 15 seconds or more off. Other causes are in Authenticator code not working?

Changing phones

Nitrado's help doesn't describe moving 2FA to a new phone. With a Novaz iCloud backup or backup file, you can restore your accounts on the new iPhone and the codes keep working. Without one, you'll need to set Nitrado up again. Nitrado's developer documentation shows that a registered authenticator can be removed and a new one added (Nitrado), but the help pages don't say where you do that on the website. Keep the old iPhone working until the new one gives you codes that Nitrado accepts, and ask Nitrado Support if you can't find the option. See How to transfer your authenticator app to a new iPhone.

If you lose your authenticator

Nitrado doesn't publish a recovery process for a lost authenticator. Its support site, though, lists Two factor authentication as one of the account problems you can pick when you open a request (Nitrado). That's the route to take. Nitrado doesn't say what proof it asks for or how long it takes. It does say that its support staff will never ask for your password, so don't give it to anyone who claims to be from Nitrado (Nitrado).

Turning 2FA off

The pages we could read don't show how to turn two-factor authentication off. If you need it off and can't find a way under My Account, ask Nitrado Support.
