Ripio 2FA: how to set up an authenticator app
By the Novaz team · Updated October 29, 2026
Novaz steps checked against version 1.0.5
On this page
Ripio is a Latin American crypto platform: your Ripio account is where you buy, sell and send crypto and manage the Ripio Card. In its June 2026 note on account protection, Ripio says its two-step verification (2FA) works with authenticator apps such as Google Authenticator and Authy, and puts it alongside passkeys and sign-in alerts (Ripio, archived). Ripio has also offered codes by text message, and its help center called the app option a code generator. This guide uses Authenticator App - Novaz on iPhone, but any authenticator app works the same way.
How we checked this guide: Ripio's websites turned away our automated reader, and its current help centers only load in a full web browser. So every Ripio page here was read in an archived copy on web.archive.org, on October 21, 2026. The note on authenticator support is from June 2026. The setup and recovery steps come from Ripio help articles archived in 2022, so labels and menus in today's app may differ. We haven't tested them on a Ripio account. The Novaz steps are checked against the app, version 1.0.5.
What we could and couldn't confirm
Ripio's help centers for Argentina, Brazil and Mexico now have newer 2FA articles, with titles such as "Métodos disponibles para configurar el 2FA" (methods for setting up 2FA) and "¿Cómo configurar o resetear el 2FA?" (setting up or resetting 2FA). Their text loads only in a full browser, so we couldn't read it. If what you see in the app doesn't match the steps below, those articles are the newest source (Ripio).
The archived articles also said you needed 2FA turned on to trade from your account at all (Ripio, archived). We couldn't confirm whether that's still the rule.
Turn on 2FA with an authenticator app
The archived article on setting up 2FA with an app describes these steps (Ripio, archived). The labels are in Spanish, as Ripio shows them:
- Open Perfil (Profile).
- Under Gestionar autenticación de dos factores (manage two-factor authentication), choose Configurar.
- Choose Agregar nuevo factor de autenticación (add a new authentication factor).
- Pick the type Generador de Códigos (code generator) and click Continuar.
- Ripio shows a QR code. In Novaz, tap +, then Scan QR code, and point the camera at it. If the QR code is on the same iPhone, take a screenshot, tap +, then Choose a photo. See scanning a QR code on the same iPhone.
- Type the code from Novaz in the token field and click Continuar. Ripio then confirms that two-factor authentication is on.
Ripio notes that you can do this on a computer, so your phone is free to scan the code. The article doesn't mention a text key you could type instead of scanning. If Ripio shows one, in Novaz tap +, then Enter key manually, and type it as the Setup key. See What is a 2FA setup key?
The same article says a code by text message to your registered phone is on by default. An app is the stronger choice. See authenticator app vs. SMS.
No backup codes
None of the Ripio pages we read mention backup or recovery codes. If you lose your authenticator, the documented way back in is Ripio's identity check (below). Novaz's keys stay on your iPhone unless you turn on iCloud backup (PRO) or export a backup file in Settings › Backup, so set one up before you need it.
If Ripio rejects your code
Ripio's own advice is to enter the code within 30 seconds, before the app replaces it with a new one (Ripio, archived). If codes still fail, check your iPhone's clock: Settings > General > Date & Time > Set Automatically. Novaz also warns you when your clock is 15 seconds or more off. If nothing helps, Ripio says it can remove 2FA from your account through the recovery process below. Other causes are in Authenticator code not working?
Changing phones or turning 2FA off
The archived recovery article explains how to remove 2FA while you can still sign in: open your account on the web at app.ripio.com, go to Perfil, then the Preferencias tab, and find Gestionar autenticación de dos factores. There you can choose Eliminar todos to remove every method, or Eliminar next to one method (Ripio, archived).
To move to a new iPhone, do this while you still have the old one, then set up the code generator again with the new phone. If you have a Novaz iCloud backup or backup file, you can restore your accounts on the new iPhone instead. See How to transfer your authenticator app to a new iPhone.
If you lose your authenticator
Ripio asks you to prove who you are on video. The archived article describes two routes (Ripio, archived):
- In the Ripio app: on the screen that asks for your 2FA code, tap Recuperar 2FA, enter your email and follow the steps. You record a short video showing your face and your DNI (national ID) while you read a phrase aloud. Ripio says it reviews requests within 72 business hours. If the button is missing, update the app.
- Without the app: record a video of 20 MB or less, holding your DNI so its details are readable, and say the phrase Ripio gives you. Then open a support ticket from your account under Acceso y seguridad de mi cuenta > 2FA and attach the video. Ripio doesn't accept a link to a cloud drive.
Once Ripio removes 2FA, you can't trade until you turn it on again. More in Lost the phone with your authenticator app?
