Unstoppable Domains 2FA: how to set up an authenticator app
By the Novaz team · Updated October 29, 2026
Novaz steps checked against version 1.0.5
On this page
Your Unstoppable Domains account holds the web3 and DNS domains you've bought, along with their records and Whois contacts. Two-factor authentication (2FA) is optional. Unstoppable Domains offers one method, an authenticator app, and its help center frames it as extra protection for claiming and managing domains (Unstoppable Domains). Its help pages don't mention backup codes, so plan your recovery before you turn it on. The steps below use Authenticator App - Novaz on iPhone. Any authenticator app works the same way.
How we checked this guide: the Unstoppable Domains steps come from Unstoppable Domains' own help center, including the screenshots in its articles, which we read on October 21, 2026. We haven't tested them on an Unstoppable Domains account, so a label may differ slightly. The Novaz steps are checked against the app, version 1.0.5.
Turn on 2FA with an authenticator app
The help article was last changed in October 2025, but some of its screenshots are older, so the button text in them doesn't always match the written steps (Unstoppable Domains):
- Sign in on the Unstoppable Domains website. Open the profile icon at the top right and choose Account Settings.
- In the Security box, turn on the Two Factor Authentication toggle.
- A window called Set up two factor authentication opens with a QR code (the help calls it a barcode). In Novaz, tap +, then Scan QR code, and point the camera at it. If the code is on the same iPhone, take a screenshot and use Choose a photo instead. See scanning a QR code on the same iPhone.
- If you can't scan it, use the secret code printed under the QR code. In Novaz, tap +, then Enter key manually, and type it as the Setup key. See What is a 2FA setup key?
- Click NEXT.
- Type the 6-digit code from Novaz into Authentication code and click SAVE.
- Unstoppable Domains then confirms your email address. Click SEND CODE BY EMAIL (the screenshot shows Send Verification Code), type the 6-digit code from the email and click Confirm.
The email screen notes that the message can take up to 10 minutes to arrive. If it never shows up, Unstoppable Domains has a separate article on missing verification emails (Unstoppable Domains).
No backup codes, so keep the secret code
The help center describes no backup or recovery codes. Instead, the setup window itself suggests writing down the secret code or printing the QR code, so you can get back in if you lose your phone. That's worth doing with Novaz too: its keys stay on your iPhone unless you turn on iCloud backup or export a backup file, and a saved secret code works even if you have neither. Keep the copy on paper or in a password manager, not in your photo library: anyone who has it can make your codes.
When Unstoppable Domains asks for a code
The help pages don't say whether you'll get a code prompt at every sign-in. They do show it for account changes: for example, when you confirm new Whois contacts for a domain, you'll be asked for your code if 2FA is on (Unstoppable Domains). Keep Novaz handy whenever you manage domains.
If Unstoppable Domains rejects your code
Its help center has no advice on rejected authenticator codes. The most common cause is the iPhone's clock: go to Settings > General > Date & Time and turn on Set Automatically. Novaz warns you when the clock is 15 seconds or more off. More causes in Authenticator code not working?
Changing phones
The newest screenshot of the Security box shows a Change Your Phone link under the toggle, but the help center doesn't explain what it does. Try it while you still have the old phone. If you saved the secret code, you can also add it to Novaz on the new iPhone with Enter key manually. Or, if you back up Novaz, restore your accounts on the new iPhone from iCloud backup or a backup file. See How to transfer your authenticator app to a new iPhone.
If you lose your authenticator
If you saved the secret code, add it to Novaz on your new phone as a manual entry, or restore your Novaz backup if you made one. If you have neither, Unstoppable Domains support can turn off 2FA on your account. Email support@unstoppabledomains.com or open a ticket, and include (Unstoppable Domains):
- the email address on your Unstoppable Domains account, and
- proof of your most recent purchase: the last 4 digits of the card, the PayPal transaction ID (it starts with "UD-"), the crypto transaction hash, or the order ID if you paid only with credits.
If you've never bought anything, you can give the date you created the account instead. The help center doesn't say how long this takes. See also Lost the phone with your authenticator app?
Turning 2FA off
The article's title covers disabling 2FA, but its steps only describe turning it on. The setting is the same Two Factor Authentication toggle in Account Settings. After it's off, remove the account from Novaz: open it and tap Remove account.
