SendOwl 2FA: how to set up an authenticator app
By the Novaz team · Updated October 29, 2026
Novaz steps checked against version 1.0.5
On this page
SendOwl is where many creators sell and deliver digital products. Since December 2025, signing in to it takes a second step for every account, and you choose which kind (SendOwl):
- An authenticator app, which SendOwl calls 2FA. You set it up once and type a code from the app.
- Email verification, which SendOwl calls MFA. It needs no setup: if you haven't added an app, SendOwl emails you a link to click each time you sign in.
The part to plan for is recovery. SendOwl doesn't give you backup codes. Instead, you write your own recovery passphrase during setup, and SendOwl's help says that without it, Support can't give you back an account that's locked behind the app. This guide uses Authenticator App - Novaz on iPhone. Any authenticator app works the same way, even though SendOwl's page only names Authy and Google Authenticator.
How we checked this guide: the SendOwl steps come from SendOwl's own help center, including the screenshots in its articles, linked below, which we read on October 21, 2026. We haven't tested them on a SendOwl account, so a label may differ slightly. The Novaz steps are checked against the app, version 1.0.5.
Turn on 2FA with an authenticator app
SendOwl's help describes these steps (SendOwl). The path to your profile comes from another of its articles (SendOwl).
- In your SendOwl dashboard, click Settings, then My profile (under My settings).
- Scroll down to Two factor auth. Its Status reads Disabled. Click Enable.
- A page called Two factor authentication opens, with a QR code. In Novaz, tap +, then Scan QR code, and point the camera at it. If the page is open on the same iPhone, take a screenshot, tap +, then Choose a photo. See scanning a QR code on the same iPhone.
- If you can't scan, SendOwl shows a text key next to the code, which it calls a token. In Novaz, tap +, then Enter key manually, type "SendOwl" as the Service and the token as the Setup key. See What is a 2FA setup key?
- In Recovery passphrase, type a phrase you'll remember and store it somewhere other than your phone. This is your only way back in if you lose the app (more below).
- In Please enter the code shown on your authenticator, type the current code from Novaz.
- Click Enable two factor authentication.
One detail in SendOwl's screenshot: the code box shows an 8-digit example, while a key typed by hand into Novaz always makes 6-digit codes. SendOwl's text doesn't say how long its codes are. Scanning the QR code avoids the question, because the code carries the right settings into the app. If you did type the key, tap the SendOwl account in Novaz and check Details.
Your recovery passphrase is the backup
SendOwl's help is direct about this. If you delete your authenticator app or lose your phone, you contact SendOwl Support and give them the recovery passphrase you chose, and they restore your access. If you don't have the passphrase, SendOwl says it won't be able to grant access, and its FAQ adds that the passphrase can't be recovered (SendOwl).
Treat it like a password you can't reset, and keep it in a password manager or on paper, not on the iPhone that holds Novaz. If that phone is gone and you have no Novaz backup, the passphrase is what's left. For general advice on storing this kind of fallback, see 2FA backup codes.
Signing in through Shopify
If you use SendOwl's Shopify integration, signing in to your connected Shopify account also validates your SendOwl login (SendOwl). So keep your Shopify account well protected too (SendOwl).
If SendOwl rejects your code
SendOwl's help doesn't cover wrong authenticator codes. First check the code length issue above. Then check your iPhone's clock: Settings > General > Date & Time > Set Automatically. Novaz warns you when the clock is 15 seconds or more off. More causes are in Authenticator code not working?
Too many attempts lock the account. After five failed sign-in attempts, SendOwl emails you an unlock link, and its help says to use that link rather than contacting Support (SendOwl).
Changing phones or turning it off
SendOwl's help doesn't describe how to move the authenticator to a new phone or how to turn 2FA off. With Novaz's iCloud backup or a backup file, you can restore your accounts on a new iPhone; without one, you'll add SendOwl again from scratch. Keep the old phone working until you've sorted that out, and if you can't find a way in your profile, ask Support at support@sendowl.com. See How to transfer your authenticator app to a new iPhone.
If you lose your authenticator
Email SendOwl Support at support@sendowl.com and give them your recovery passphrase (SendOwl). SendOwl doesn't say how long this takes or what else it may ask for. Without the passphrase, its help says it can't restore access.
If the lost phone was also signed in to your dashboard, sign out every other device once you're back in: on My profile, under Sessions, click Sign out all other devices (SendOwl). More in Lost the phone with your authenticator app?
