Sisense for Cloud Data Teams 2FA: how to set up an authenticator app

Sisense for Cloud Data Teams (CDT) is Sisense's hosted analytics product for running SQL, Python and R against your databases and data warehouses (Sisense). You sign in at app.periscopedata.com (Sisense). Two-factor authentication (2FA) works with an authenticator app, which you add by scanning a QR code. Sisense names Authy and Google Authenticator as examples (Sisense).
The most important thing to know before you start: the CDT documentation doesn't mention backup codes. If you lose your phone, a site administrator has to reset your 2FA for you. This guide uses Authenticator App - Novaz on iPhone, but any authenticator app works the same way.
How we checked this guide: the Sisense for Cloud Data Teams steps come from Sisense's own CDT documentation, linked below, which we read on October 21, 2026. We haven't tested them on a CDT account, so a label may differ slightly. The Novaz steps are checked against the app, version 1.0.5.
Required for the whole site, or turned on just for you
There are two ways 2FA gets switched on (Sisense):
- A site administrator requires it. They select the Settings icon, open Billing & Security, and turn on 2FA under Site Two-Factor Authentication. Anyone already signed in sees their page refresh and has to finish 2FA setup right away.
- You turn it on yourself. You can do this even if your admins haven't made 2FA mandatory. Go to the Profile option and check Enable under Two-Factor Authentication. CDT asks you to set it up the next time you sign in.
If your site uses single sign-on, CDT makes you sign in through your identity provider (Sisense). The CDT pages don't say how CDT's own 2FA works alongside SSO, so ask your admin which second step applies to you.
Set up the authenticator app
Whichever way 2FA was turned on, you finish setup on the screen CDT shows you after you sign in with your email and password.
- Sign in at app.periscopedata.com with your email address and password (Sisense).
- CDT shows a QR code for the setup. In Novaz, tap +, then Scan QR code, and point the camera at the screen. If the QR code is on the same iPhone, take a screenshot, tap +, then Choose a photo. See scanning a QR code on the same iPhone.
- Type the code Novaz shows into CDT to finish.
Sisense's article only talks about the QR code. It doesn't say whether the screen also shows a text key. If yours does and you can't scan, tap + in Novaz, then Enter key manually, and paste it as the Setup key. See What is a 2FA setup key?
Signing in afterwards
Each sign-in has two steps. First you enter your email and password. Then CDT asks for the verification code from your app (Sisense). If you sign in with a password and not SSO, CDT signs you out after 72 hours of inactivity, so expect the code prompt again after a few days away (Sisense).
If CDT rejects your code
Sisense's documentation doesn't give advice on rejected codes. The most common cause is a phone clock that's off. On iPhone, open Settings > General > Date & Time and turn on Set Automatically. Novaz warns you when your clock is 15 seconds or more off. More causes are in Authenticator code not working?
If you lose your phone or change phones
The documented way back in is an admin reset. A site administrator selects the Settings icon, opens Permissions, clicks the gear next to your name and chooses Reset 2FA. On sites with role-based access control (RBAC), the path is Settings > Roles and Policies, the users tab, the gear next to your name, then Reset 2FA. Either way, CDT asks you to set up 2FA again the next time you sign in (Sisense).
So the first person to contact is a site administrator at your own company, not Sisense. If you're the only admin, line up a second admin before you rely on 2FA. Sisense doesn't document a support route for admins locked out of their own site. See also Lost the phone with your authenticator app?
For a new iPhone, the same admin reset is the only route the docs describe. Ask for the reset while you still have the old phone, then scan the new QR code into Novaz on the new one. If you use Novaz's iCloud backup or a backup file, you can skip the reset and restore your accounts on the new iPhone instead. See How to transfer your authenticator app to a new iPhone.
Turning 2FA off
Sisense's documentation doesn't describe how to turn 2FA off, for a single user or for a whole site. If your administrator requires it for the site, you can't opt out.
