Ting sells two services, and each has its own account and its own sign-in. Ting Mobile, the phone service, is managed at tingmobile.com. Ting Internet, the fiber service, is managed at ting.com. Both accounts offer two-factor authentication (2FA) with an authenticator app or a text message, but they handle it differently. Ting Mobile won't let you skip it: if your account has no 2FA yet, a pop-up asks you to set it up the next time you sign in (Ting). On Ting Internet it's optional, and Ting calls it two-step verification (Ting).

If you have both services, set up each account on its own. This guide uses Authenticator App - Novaz on iPhone, but any authenticator app works the same way.

How we checked this guide: the Ting steps come from Ting's own help center, linked below, which we read on October 22, 2026. We haven't tested them on a Ting account, so a label may differ slightly. The Novaz steps are checked against the app, version 1.0.5.

Ting Mobile: set up an authenticator app

Ting's help describes this flow (Ting):

  1. Sign in to your Ting Mobile account at tingmobile.com.
  2. If 2FA isn't set up yet, a pop-up appears. Enter your Ting account password and click Continue.
  3. Choose Authenticator app as your method. (The other choice is Text message.)
  4. Ting shows a QR code. In Novaz, tap +, then Scan QR code, and point the camera at it. If the QR code is on the same iPhone, take a screenshot, tap +, then Choose a photo. See scanning a QR code on the same iPhone.
  5. Ting also offers a manual key. To use it, tap + in Novaz, then Enter key manually, type Ting in Service and paste the key into Setup key. See What is a 2FA setup key?
  6. Type the code from Novaz on Ting's screen and click Enable.

Already have 2FA and want to switch from text messages to an app? Go to Account Settings, then under Account Security click Manage account security. Enter your password, choose the method you want, and follow the setup steps. Ting's account overview also lists the 2FA settings under Account Settings (Ting).

Ting's help doesn't say how many digits its codes have or how often they change. Scanning the QR code is the safer choice, because the code carries those settings to your app.

Ting Internet: turn on two-step verification

Ting's Internet help gives these steps (Ting):

  1. Sign in to your Ting Internet account.
  2. Open the My Account menu at the top right and select Account settings.
  3. Scroll to Account Security and select Two-step verification.
  4. Enter your password and click Continue.
  5. Pick Authenticator app. The other options are SMS text message and None.
  6. Scan the QR code with Novaz, or enter the manual key as described above. Then type the code from Novaz and click Continue.

The page names Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator and Blackberry 2FA as apps Ting supports. Novaz isn't on that list, but it reads the same kind of QR code. The same page notes that the screens can look a little different if you sign in through legacy.ting.com, though the settings sit in the same places. It also says you'll need a code each time you sign in.

Recovery codes

Ting Mobile gives you recovery codes for the day you can't use your 2FA method. Ting's advice is to print them and keep them somewhere safe. Each one works once, so cross it off after you use it. If you make a new set, the old codes stop working (Ting).

Keep them even if you back up Novaz. They're your way back in if that phone is lost and you have no iCloud backup or backup file, or the backup is older than your Ting setup. See 2FA backup codes.

Ting's Internet help doesn't mention recovery codes for two-step verification.

If Ting rejects your code

Ting's help pages don't cover a rejected code. The usual cause is the iPhone's clock: go to Settings > General > Date & Time and turn on Set Automatically. Novaz warns you when the clock is 15 seconds or more off. Also make sure you're reading the right entry if you've added both Ting accounts to Novaz. More causes are in Authenticator code not working?

Changing phones

With a Novaz iCloud backup or backup file, you restore your accounts on the new iPhone and Ting's codes keep working. Without one, you set Ting up again: while you still have the old phone, go back into the 2FA settings on each Ting account (the Mobile and Internet steps above) and choose the authenticator app again with the new phone. Ting doesn't describe this case on its own, but those settings let you change methods at any time. See How to transfer your authenticator app to a new iPhone.

If you lose your authenticator

For Ting Mobile, use one of your recovery codes. Ting's help doesn't say what happens if you have no codes left, what proof it would ask for, or how long help takes.

For Ting Internet, the help page only says to contact Ting if you need assistance. Ting's contact page lists a 24/7 phone line for existing Internet customers and a live chat. It doesn't describe a 2FA reset. Read Lost the phone with your authenticator app? for what to do in the meantime.

Turning 2FA off

On Ting Internet, open Two-step verification again, choose None and click Continue (Ting). Ting Mobile's help only describes switching between methods, not turning 2FA off. If you go back to text messages, see authenticator app vs. SMS for the trade-off.
